Congrats to Bulldog Baseball for another great tourney win with class. Also kudo's to the Titans for playing toe to toe with the Bulldogs in the championship game. A lot of good baseball and as always some nice surprizes. Great job Team Combat in their big win over the EC Astro's......Anyone other than me think its pretty cheesy to win a State Touenament and the players get a a mini bat that simply says "Finalist" instead of a trophy. The little bat did not even indicate that it was the Georgia State Championship. Poorly done Triple Crown!
I saw some of the little kids walking aroung with little bats after their awards presentation. Didnt see them-but thought that was probably suitable for the little guys. Didnt realize older age groups got them as well. Wonder if the 13/14/15's got them also? While all trophy's do is take up space in the closet, I sure it would have been nicer for the first and second place finishers to get something a little classier. That said, it also was nice for the other semifinalists to get a plack (sp?)for recognition. Kudos to the Bulldogs and Titans for outstanding tournaments as well as Wills Park Warriors and Team Combat.
Not sure what the deal with those bats are. When we won the 11U division last year, I was very disappointed for the boys. We love Triple Crown Tournaments and think Tony does a SUPER job putting them on. That is the only thing I have ever been disappointed with from that group. Who knows, it may be something that Triple Crown national came up with. You know those NATIONAL people.
Congratulations to Bulldog Baseball for winning it and to the GA Titans for being right there in the championship.
For parents trophies do collect dust but for the kids I think they see trophies and plaques.....even the medals in a different light. I would say that most of the kids I saw felt more disappointed. Had the little bats at least listed the accomplishment it might have been more appropriate but for the bats to just say "finalist" was a rip. Again this was a State Championship.
A little history of AAU medals. AAU was formed in 1888 and served as the governing body for the US Olympic athletes until the USOC was formed. Thus the tradition of awarding individual gold, silver and bronze medals for the state, national and international events (in every sport).
ingasven, I MUCH preferred the metals at the AAU than the little bats. I doubt Tony dreamt up those bats as a good option and that they are some tradition within Triple Crown.
That or Tony got a good deal on a garage full of them and is trying to get rid of them.
