It looks like the larger fields are going to be turf with clay mounds over 300. Found this from website. They just put down the first field.

Went by there today. This place is really coming together. A couple of fields are near completion. Check out some of the photos on their Facebook page.

The comments are starting to pour in. ....

The fields are great BUT:

Didn't like the strip search for water or snacks.
Everybody including little kids are $10.
Nothing around the area to go eat at.
There's one small gas station.

Looks like it will be years before this becomes anything like EC.

Nobody was strip searched...lol. Two different wives mentioned there bags were checked. One mom said this isn't the braves stadium just 15u baseball....lol. Maybe they relaxed that rule?

What experiences did folks have over the last couple weeks at Lake Pointe?

My 11 yr old son and I went there on Sat to watch a few games. It was $10 for me and he was free. Their sign said 14 and under was free. I had a backpack with a few waters and no one looked in my pack. There may not be a lot of places to eat right now, McDonalds and Subway at the truck stop which is not so little. Just exits a North are all the resturants you would want. It's about a 5 min drive. The signs are going up for all the resturants and hotels, so it won't be that long. It's a great park and the layout is very good.

Everything was great Monday when we started pg tourney. Bleacher seating, all the reps were very friendly and asking the coaches if they needed ice for pitchers or in case of injury and asked if we needed anything at all to just ask. Every pitcher gets clocked to let dads know how fast their son "really" pitches. Digital scoreboards (need to make numbers a bit bigger for older folks). Lighting was not blinding yet illuminated fields well.
I was very envious of today's kids.
The drive wasn't bad at all to our area. Unfortunately, I see a lot of my money going their way in coming years :)

Only maybe negative I have is: if you are coaching and wearing shorts and ankle socks, when running around you will feel like bugs are flying at your legs, but it's the turf material flying around and in your turf shoes. Not really a negative, but you will see what I mean when you play there.

Can't wait to see what the entire complex offers when done.

I haven't been there, but have heard some feedback on another website. My understanding is that it was ok to bring water in, just had to put it in your bag and you'd be OK. That has now changed according to Jerry Ford, owner of PG. He said they all agreed - PG and the company who they lease the facilities from - to allow water and drinks into the facility.

As far as the $10, it has always been that to get into a PG event. My son had been going to them since 2009 and it has always cost $10 to get into one as a spectator. Remember, this is a project that is in process, it's not complete yet. As time goes on, I think there will be changes made, more stores and concessions available and the area around it will grow. Overall, it sounds pretty impressive. Kind of wish it was around when my son was still doing PG events. May have to take a trip out there just to watch a few games soon.

Interesting that in the same weekend there could be two vastly different experiences that occur at the same park.

"Little kids $10" vs. "sign that states 14 & under free"
"Nothing to eat around area" vs. "McDonalds/Subway... or 5-min ride to whatever you want"
"Strip searched" vs. "didn't even look in my backpack"

It is very interesting. I guess you haven't been there - or you would know what's being talked about.

The local truck stop just wasn't our choice for lunch. The lady that had her bag checked did raise holy heck. Yes they did charge my buddy for his kids under 14 and I never saw any such sign. Exit 283 towards the fields had one gas station. Exit 285 (1 north) had nothing.

The Wake boarding did look fun and the volleyball was cool to watch from the observation structure.

Lastly, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks if you sign up for a PG tourney you will probably be visiting and paying and subject to whatever is out there. Just curious what others experienced.

Most interested in others experience? Looks like it will be very impressive in the future not anytime soon.

The water issues should be a huge issue for all parents. Mentioned above that PG is changing the policy. Impressed with the facility....functioning bath rooms! I did help a few players out that were turned away at the gate because they were carrying water in. Told them to go back to the car and put it in their bag. Caught myself telling my son to brush the dirt off his uniform and sit on a towel in the car...."dad I played on turf". Its funny he had black dots from the field stuck to his skin.

Forgot to mention some feedback from my son and fellow players. Field is fast, ground balls have less resistance. Practice sliding before the game, turf is slippery.

Number of cancellations of consolation games today by Perfect Game. Must be cough-cough, ahem, "poor field conditions" (fingers crossed behind back).

Here's a quote from the guy from PG. I think they will be addressing as many issues as they can as time goes on. Many suggestions made already on the other website. Overall, it seems like people really like the facility.

"I have been at LakePoint the past couple days. We have addressed the water issue.

People need to keep in mind that PG leases the facility. There are some things beyond our control. However water is something we needed to take care of and the LP officials agreed.

Also, by the time everything is done, well over $50 million to build the entire facility. 8 fields this year and 8 more scheduled for next year. I hope those that spend time there can take in a night game. The lights are special! In fact, these Musco LED lights are not in any other facility in the world. The Shaw turf is also the first of it's kind.

I think people are going to really like the place."

How did the players like the fields? How were the 'hops'? Was it hot? How are the overall facilities? Not going to get to play there this year but maybe next!

My son is not even old enough to play @ Lake Pointe yet but I am looking forward to it. In reference to restaurants and such, the place was never going to 100% fully functioning from day one. Not sure how you could think you were going to walk into Lake Pointe on Day one and think there would be hotels, stores and restaurants up and running. They had fields ready and wanted to start and that's awesome, for people who though that full service food outlets would be ready and at their disposable, who cares. I would be there for the baseball and could care less about the "eats". Pack a lunch and eat in the car. This place is going to be awesome when fully completed, for now it's still great. And BTW, to echo bballman, PG entry fees have ALWAYS been $10, learned that when I went a few years back to watch the big boys.

We just got finished with the Perfect Game Tournament and I have been fortunate enough to see some great parks over the year BUT nothing compares to the new Lake Pointe. It is worth taking a trip over there just to see the state of the art lighting system. If you guys get a chance to play there do not let the opportunity pass you by. My son is a catcher and loved the fields.

Don't really need FULL service anything however I'm sure knowing what's out there will help others to better prepare for the trip. I always pack my lunch and expect to pay at any tourney. Friends and family of mine had no idea. Wasn't surprised about the $10 for adults because I also have been paying that for 3 years at PG. Charging kids $10 is a surprise. Glad to hear there's a sign saying 14 and under free.

no need to charge a gate fee for kids under 14 as they spend a small fortune at the concession stands. as for drinks, there will always be countless people who do not bring their own drinks for one reason or another so it makes no sense to ban drinks (coolers maybe but come on, no need to search bags for drinks). heck even turner field doesn't prohibit you from bringing drinks in.

Well.....the pack a lunch theory doesn't work either. We had a few hours to kill prior to the game and had almost every single one of our parents approached by two 88lb frat boys who said we couldn't eat or drink in the parking lot. The money grab that is PG is astounding, I was especially disgusted with the tie breaker rules in bracket play. That's not baseball, that's garbage...the facilities were very nice, the boys and coaches did say it was crazy hot on the field but that's to be expected.

For those looking for somewhere to eat, try Doug's Place in Emerson, only about 1.5 miles from Lake Pointe. Two exits north of Lake Pointe there are plenty more places to eat.

My boys and I really enjoyed being in the park and facilities. Bob Balker is right on you can not expect it to be fully ready yet. Another year or two and all the amenities will be functioning and scoreboards working too unlike many of the parks we go to including ECB.

I am sure you and your friends are the exception, but have you seen parking lots after events like this? People are messy creatures at best and there would be trash all over the place if they allowed eating in the parking lot. (Not to mention all the trash put in the back of strangers' pickup, but that is another story). I don't blame LP for this one. If you are eating in your car they cannot do anything about it. As far as tailgating around your car, where would you draw the line? None, a family eating sandwiches, a team eating sandwiches, or someone lights a grill and pulls out the cooler of PBR? If it is your JOB to clean up the parking lot, I know where you would want the line drawn.

My complaint this week:
To the parents of six hundred forty three players blocking BOTH lanes of the entrance/exit in the curve waiting for your kids to come out for five minutes: Be considerate of others and don't block the entrance/exit. Your kids are athletes and they are very capable of walking the 30 extra feet to the parking lot. In the words of Long Duk Dong, "Jeez!!!"

I guess the cooling for the field isn't working yet. If it is 50 degrees cooler like it is advertised, come July, I will be laying in the outfield between innings!!!

Place is amazing. We were fortunate to have 2 games up there. Seems like it is easy to play infield because the ball skips well on the turf but it didn't seem "hot". No, bad hops because of the turf.

Don't know about the whole water thing but buddy must have had a $3.99 Walmart 12 pack.

Just remember about the turf. It's not 50 degrees cooler meaning if it's 85 degrees outside the field is 35. Turf fields can get 170+ degrees. So it would still be hot on the field. I have been there 3 times and yes you feel the heat BUT it's nothing like the old AstroTurf fields that would burn you if you touched it. Also FWIW I haven't been searched, and there is a huge sign about kids under 14 free. My 10 year old walked right through every time.
