Anyone familiar with this bat? It is the only wood bat I've found that comes with an actual warranty (4 month breakage). My 17U player has turned too many AP5's into kindling for my taste. Been looking at the Baum Bat, but ran across the MacDougall just the other day. Two calls to Better Baseball got me these reviews:
Call #1 The MacDougall has more pop, the Baum is more durable.
Call #2 The Baum is more durable AND has more pop.
Yet, my kid's hitting instructor (who's son currently plays D-1 ball), is not a fan of the Baum in the least.... |

| Can't help with either of those, but Brett Bros bats (some models anyway) come with a warranty, and my son's been happy with his. His is a bamboo composite, not sure if that helps if you're looking for traditional wood. |

MacDougall is a great bat. A LOT of pop, you don't have to worry about keeping the logo aligned (you can hit it on any turn around the circumference of the bat due to the unique design), and it will outlast most any wood bat out there. They also back up their bats with their warranty. I had one break outside of warranty and the owner emailed me instructions on how I could repair it (crack was in the handle) well enough to continue to use in the cage. Been using that one in the cage for over a year after the repair and it's still going strong. Bought another gamer to replace the one that cracked.
Well worth the money. I agree with your son, not impressed with the Baum's. Seem dead to me. |

Why does the instructors son who plays D1 ball not like the baum bat?
I have heard nothing but good things about the Baum except the price.
I remember when BBCOR first came out the baum bat had more pop than the bbcor.

| As much as I hate borrowing (or loaning) wood bats, I could not see dropping $200+ on a "maybe he'll like it wood bat"...My player borrowed a buddy's Baum and used it for the TC Battle of the South tourney last weekend. Went 5-9 in first 3 games with 2 singles and 3 doubles...all three doubles either hit or short hopped the fence..(1 hit top of fence at West Forsyth). Needless to say, he's a fan of the Baum now. Ordered one on-line..should get it tomorrow. |

| I've noticed a lot of players at the 16YO level going with the Demarini Wood composites. I believe my son's team has about 8 boys using them. Pretty good value at $129 and comes with a 3-month warranty. My son has had his for about 10 months now without any problems. He has the D271 model. A little more flex in the handle than he was used to, but overall he likes it. I've seen only one Demarini bat break in the past year. Bat got bat sawed off at handle. Probably due more to a defect in the handle than poor contact since the pitch didn't look all that inside. I've seen the bat withstand a lot of hits that would have easily broken a wood bat. |
