It looks like it is going to finally happen. Has anyone seen any dirt move? Looks like they had a ground breaking last Thursday. They will be ready for 2014.

I went to the ground breaking ceremony and all indications are that they are ready to get this done. Expected opening in 2014. The initial plans have expanded to include many other sports. Baseball wise, 16 full size fields and 16 fields that can be configured for age groups 13 and down. Major tenants are signing on to build research centers as well as normal retail. Below is a link to their web site.

Happy day. Please keep us informed as to any news about new teams coming in the area due to this. I understand that they will only be a place to play and maybe teams later.

Just had a chance to check out the video. This is unbelievably exciting! To have a facility like this in our back yard is so special! If you haven't had a chance to watch the video... it can get the goose bumps going!

I noticed on PG website there are no showcases for GA am I reading that wrong? Does this have anything to do with that?

I would say they just haven't solidified their schedule for next year yet. The only showcases scheduled for next year are in Ft. Myers and Cedar Rapids. Give it time, the full schedule will come out. The Underclass and Top Prospect Showcases in Georgia are usually at the end of August.

I think the question that everyone is itching to ask is how LakePoint and East Cobb will react to one another. We all know that for most of the Perfect Game Tournaments that even 16 fields will not be enough. Will East Cobb and LakePoint be Partners or will they be Competitors. Let's not forget that East Cobb started it all and "Love em" or "Hate em" we all owe them that and should support them in every way possible. Let's get our thoughts out there so they can be discussed.

My personal feeling is that there is no way they will be competitors. PG is much bigger than ECB and I think they will wind up working together. You are right, I don't think 16 fields will be enough to hold the big tournaments on, so I think that PG will continue to contract with ECB for their fields for these tournaments. The question will be - what about some other tournaments such as 3 Crown, CABA, USSSA and some of the others? Will they still go to ECB, or will they go to the new place? I think it will come down to how many fields they need and how much is it going to cost them to rent fieldspace. Business decisions. There could be some competition here with these smaller tournaments, but ECB and PG will continue to work together.

JMHO.

My Guess is that they will work together. The new park will probably not hurt ECB. But instead will take alot of money from the smaller parks in the area that get the overflow from ECB.

Rumor I heard was PG has a contract with ECB and can not afford to just forget about them, but I also heard Robert Nkemdiche from Grayson was going to LSU for football. So I may be way off on both.

My guess, as that is all any of us can do, is that PG will pay the contract breakage fee to ECB so they do not have any legal bindings to ECB. They will host the PG events at LakePoint and use ECB for overflow.
LakePoint is not intending to have teams based out of their location as ECB does so they will not compete in that arena.
Sorry BBPapa, I have not disagreed with you before but I do now. No one owes ECB anything. They have been very well compensated for anything they have done for baseball in the local area. They started a business where they saw a need and they filled that need and got paid well.
If the full LakePoint plan ever gets built, with all the amenities they are planning, there is no doubt most people, scouts, etc will prefer LakePoint over ECB.

Bagger, Interesting that you say Lakepoint will not have teams or a baseball development organization based out of the park? Remember, Lakepoint is anchored by The NASA soccer program and the LB3 LaCrosse and Perfect Game. Just because PG is an anchor does not mean that there will not be a baseball training organization based at the park. NASA and LB3 are similar to development programs much like ECB Titans and 643. Additional cash flow will drive this park to have similar baseball development programs. I wouldn't think that they would have the baseball side of park sit idle when PG is not having tournaments. Also, you will probably see a large softball training organization move in. And, I would think that in time, all of the State baseball and softball championships could be held at this park.

State as in High Schools? No way schools would give up the home field advantage and gate cash unless there was something in it for them. Most the hs fields are top notch anyway.

H & R, I am sure they thought that way for football (GA Dome) and basketball (MACON CENTRAPLEX) a few years back!

If that were the case, why not use Turner Field or Gwinnett Braves Stadium by now?
