I was reading about the love/hate many of us have for "national" type teams. If your son truely has the skills to play on a national team, would you do it? How would you expect your son to benefit from being on a national team? What would be the potential short falls? I am not talking about any particular team, just the concept in general. Also, what age would you consider this at?
I think the national teams only matter in early HS levels. I would put a kid on them to get exposure to obtain college scholarships. At the younger ages it means nothing. Do you really think the Phenom coach does ANY instruction??? I think not based on how they play defense..
My son really enjoyed the USA Baseball NTIS last year. I can see where gasbag's sentiment comes from but 99% of the people I talked to about it had a great time last year.
gasbag....hahaha...you brought back some bad memories. When I was at my second JR Olympics in LA. I had the 2nd highest batting average for the tournament behind Nomar Garciapara, and didn't make the national team. Granted I was on my team as a pitcher, but ended up playing every game in Right field due to injuries.
