Is using a wood bat at a tryout a "no" or a "go"? Will coaches like the fact that the kid is using a wood; will he just care about how he didn't hit the ball as well as the other kids because he had the wood bat? What say you?

What is the advantage to using wood at a tryout?
The vast majority of your tournaments will be metal and the coach would prefer to see his mechanics with metal.

I would think most coaches are going to look at the swing and tools the player demonstrates more than where the ball actually goes. If the player has a good swing and barrels up the ball, all should be fine.

My son used wood for tryouts when hitting in an indoor batting cage ... Nothing like the crack of a wood bat when indoors. Outdoors on the field, he used metal.
