I am looking for suggestions for a new Catcher's Helemet for my 12 year old. He is looking for something that will breathe as much as possible since he plays in the summer.

I think they're all pretty much hockey style helmets now and are all about the same; the design/airflow doesn't change much between models, although there is a Wilson model that I remember having more vent openings on the top - don't recall the model name but it ran somewhere between $75 and $120 on baseballsavings..

Only other suggestion would be that unless your are looking for team colors, go with a lighter color helmet

I bought my 12u a 2-tone Allstar System 7 this season at Better Baseball. His comments, great ventalation, great visability. My observations, its longer, sits on his head making it lighter and the back cap protects his whole head not leaving any gaps between the mask and back cap.
Also the anti-bacterial pads are a plus, they come out so you can wash them. Also the design of the mask is v-shape, he took some mask shots this year and due to the design the ball just skipped off. Give them a look, they come in many color combo's.

I'm a big proponent on throat guards for catchers. My son's guard deflected a few direct shots this season.

I agree with the all star suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestions, he already has a silver colored one, which is as light a color as you can get. We are going to check out Better Baseball tomorrow. His current helmet was bought while he still wore glasses and he needed one that would flip without pulling his glasses off. Now with contacts that is no longer an issue. We will check out the Allstar one.
