A great read from a TRUE baseball player! Surprised there are no replies.
Okay...I'll bite. It is a great letter. And I believe that there are coaches that still "get the job done". I believe that my son landed with some of those coaches this summer season. And if they were all Mike M., that would be great. BUT. My sons school coach last year "bent" as he put it, one of his own rules. He played a kid that had missed all week of school. He told everyone up front that if you miss school on the day of the game....no play. He made it very clear. When asked about it....well that did not go over very well. How dare anyone question him! My sons summer coach that covered the "drop" number on a bat. The best hitter on our team used it for 2 games. He was more than able to hit home runs without cheating. He hit a ton of them with that bat. Could go on......but you get the picture. Sooooo....lets at least be real here. There are Mike Mathneys out there (thank god) and there are Jerry Sanduskeys out there. And everything in between! So yes I want to trust you to do the right thing with MY son. But just because your shirt says "coach", that does not mean I should stop wearing my "dad" shirt. And just to see if we talk out of both sides of our mouth. I have yet to see the post on here that says.....bring me your desent player and I will coach them up. All I see is bring me your stud....and I will show the world what a great coach I am with all these studs.(sic) Any parent letters that addresses the coach? "yeah you can have them......dont forget that we are counting on you".
