How many parks in the metro Atlanta area have wi-fi? For those that score on gamechanger with an ipad/iphone, how often do you find that you need wireless capability?

Very few if any. I believe you will need to be prepared to supply your own wi-fi unless you can piggy back with someone on your team that would have a mi-fi hotspot type device.

I use my Smart Phone's portable Wi-Fi hotspot found in my settings under wireless & networks. Works good!

computer illiterate here, is it expensive to use a wifi hotspot on your phone through your provider? I guess how much data do you use for a tournament?

If you are using iPhone wifi should not be an issue as you can use the phone's 3G data plan to transmit.

iPhone and Andriod both offer an optional wifi hotspot for an additional cost (ATT & Verizon). Some android phones can be rooted (jail break) and you can install a free wireless tether app (Barnacle). This allows you to turn you phone into a wifi hotspot without the monthly charges. You just use your phone's data plan. In my case, I am grandfathered in with Verizon with unlimited data.

Rooting a phone voids your phone warranty but it allows you to remove all that bloat-wear that Verizon puts on the phone plus allows you to customize the phone to your needs. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1=attaching a picture to an email, 10= setting up a wireless network at home), I would say rooting a phone is about a 7. Pretty straight forward if you take your time and read the instructions several times. Google "rooting android" and there are several forums with necessary files and instructions for rooting various models.

We've found it's not so much the wi-fi as it is the phone/tablet not holding the charge long enough to do several games! Bring extension cords for keeping the devices plugged in!
