Only one academy in the state of Georgia has a Pro-Batter pitching machine, Hitters Box in Duluth. Pro-batter is a full video screen of pitcher winding up and throwing. Best thing next to live pitching. Pro teams are using it including the Yankees. Excellent coaching too. Helped my son become a beast at the plate

Since your listing Academy's Crossroads has one of the best if not the best academy in Gwinnett.

CoachD is right on point with the Academies although I am not sure if he has them ranked according to their body of work. The problem is that all of the areas outside of Metro Atlanta does not have the opportunity to attend the workouts at an Academy. These are the kids that work more with a Coach and sometimes even a private instructor that teaches much the same type fundamentals and mechanics that you see at the Academy but under a different type setting. Both methods will always depend on the passion of the kid being trained and the willingness they have to get the hard work done. I think the reason that gausta hasn't seen more responses is that no one has seen the 2012 product in action yet and no one, especially me wants to see their neck get chopped off by making any hasty predictions that would only be based on speculation. I can say that I feel the Bandits will be strong and that our additions should make us better but we also lost 3 of the grittiest players that always played the game the right way and that we will all miss. The 12U Bandits were lucky to be able to play the toughest competition in the nation with a lot of it being in our own backyard and by doing so were privleged to see the very best players in this division and were blessed to be able to add the 2 best I saw during the year to a roster that was already blessed with some really good baseball players. I will say one thing that you guys have been saying for years and that is that I really feel that this might the year of parody and I don't feel that you will see any one team dominate the field.

Elite is in Gwinnett. Big Stix is in McDonough. Not sure about the younger ages, but they are good in the older ages.

A couple of other good academies are Nelson and Home Plate. There is also Windward. Like I said, I'm not sure about the younger ages, but these guys are pretty decent places to play in the older ages.

Thanks mdschert,

I am looking for some place for winter hitting work outs. I would love for my son to become a beast at the plate :-)

DecaturDad - Sports A Rama in East Cobb has one of the pitching machines too (although I'm not sure if its a Pro Batter). I don't know if its any closer for ya, but they do have one. Sounds like the Vipers had a good fall! Gonna be fun seeing you guys again in the Spring - I know our kids had fun hanging out during opening/closing ceremonies @ Cooperstown at 10U.

mdschert - good luck down in FLA! Interested to hear how that works with Phenom.

Mark - USSSA folks asked the same question last winter, and resulted in some interesting/heated discussions. I'm sure my view is like Baseball Papa's & others - the kids need to play together as a team and get a few tourney's under their belts before we can start to separate the teams. We enjoy road trips, and oppty to see new teams but I'm also glad my son can face good competition week-in and week-out here in the GA/ATL area.

Prestont,

Thanks, but we are closer to Duluth. We are going to give it a try and see what happens. Cooperstown was fun. We will be back week one. Looking forward to some good games this spring.

bballman- Elite Sports Complex is in McDonough GA. Yes they are home of the Big Stix as well as all of the Elite Gamers teams including the 2011 12u Elite Gamers Red team who finished ranked 5th in the state on the league lineup major team rankings site. That team is coached by Mike Garner who is the lead instructor at Elite.
12u Final Rankings 2011- Major
1. Bandits
2. Sandtown
3. ECB Astros
4. ECB Titans
5. Elite Gamers Red

Well, ya learn something new everyday. I guess you have the Elite Gamers in McDonough and then Team Elite out of Gwinnett. I knew of the Big Stix Gamers, but didn't know they were out of the Elite Sports Complex. Thanks for the clarification.

Where is the shame in being 5th place?

Even if winning is everything every game has a loser.

No shame intended.... The competition is this age group is fierce and to be ranked 5th in the state after the tough 2011 season is awesome! It is also further proof that Coach D is correct in listing Elite-McDonough as one of the Best Academys. Not only were the 12u teams very competitive, all of the age groups are. Many of the Gamers and Big Stix players work out at Elite Sports Academy in private lessons, team work outs, and/or speed and agility classes. By the way, they are changing locations this week and will be at 918 Dailey Mill Rd, McDonough.

Bballman-the younger teams are known as Elite Gamers and then it becomes the Big Stix Gamers at 14u.

I have been looking and discussing the new 13U Astro team that will be on diplay in 2012. They appear to have retooled and I expect them to be a monster next year and very hard to handle for all of us. Has anyone heard how their progress is coming along and what we might expect to be their strengths and hopefully share any weakness that they might have.

I heard they are progressing very well. Big team with very very good speed. Deep in the arms department as well and I don't see any defensive holes. Weakness if they have one will be how they gel as a team.

First,I would like to say thanks to everyone so far that has responded. Now that I got some info. let me clarify what I'm trying to figure out. I don't want anyone to give me a prediction on there 2012 team. USTSA is wanting the best of the best at each age group at our tournaments. Agentorange my goal is to have tournaments with the best teams and your right if you finish 5th or 8th or 9th I want you to be able to tell your kids that there is nothing wrong with where we finished today because we just played the top teams in the southeast. I really hope makes sense. I also think that if your team is playing the top teams that is the way they are getting better. We will be hosting tournaments in the North at Douglasville's New Hunter Park. In the Middle in Macon at the West Macon Park, and in South in Savannah, and Statesboro. We want the best of the best teams and acadamies. When it comes to the best teams lets get the best teams from 2011. Coaches if you dont mind for our first tournament in Douglasville we are giving BIG multiple team discounts and also first team discounts. If your one of the first teams to enter you will receive discounts. So if you don't mind send me your email and number and I will send you some info. Once again thanks to everyone and remember PLAY USTSA we are new but we are here for you.

Thanks,
Mark

For 16 yr olds besides the obvious teams like The Astros and RR, I heard that Team GA and TPX Dogers out of Peachtree City are going to have two solid 16yr old teams...

Don't leave the South Ga. teams out. I think Stixx Baseball have been pretty good the last couple of years. I think that the Stixx might be a little stronger this year.

16u RR?

If so, that is new this year and I question the inclusion of them in the top discussions.

13U or 14u may be correct.

For 16u, unlike the younger ages, the objective is different. Teams spend more time on getting exposure and less on arguing who is the top team. The Astros will be, but they will play very few 16u tournaments so it is irrelevant. Winning tournaments is irrelevant too because the objective is to get players seen. You will see many teams playing in showcases that care a lot less about wins and losses that they do in getting all of their players some visibility.
