| Does anyone know if this tourney is still going on? There are no teams listed on the ECB website and it's no longer listed on USSSA site. |

| Don't look to the ECB website for a whole lot of info or tournament info (teams, updates etc.), it's pretty much behind the times. You're better off just calling a tournament director or member. |

The tourney is listed there....the info usually is not there until the wednesday before in the form of a ms word attachment.
I agree with you amoore they need to do a better job of posting tourney information and results. |

| I think the question was asked because this tournament was listed under USSSA and it is not there now. I heard one of the hosting schools (Fields used for older ages) were told the tournament was cancelled. |

| Sounds about right for the higher age groups. Nothing is cheap for the HS age teams. Part of the reason why it is more expensive to play. |

My thought is round robin in the FALL is a joke at that price. It is really just scrimmage games. Rent a field on a Sunday afternoon and play a couple games with two different teams. Split the umpire and rental cost. |

What do you want another plastic trophy?
In reality as the players get older the main reason to play is to be seen by scouts/recruiters or to get reps. After 4 hours on the field no one is at their best. No sense in a marathon of 4 or 5 games on a sunday to determine a "Champion" -- that's for the younger groups. Anything more than two game in one day is way too much baseball. |

How many scouts/recruiters have you seen during the the FALL? I haven't seen a lot. No trophy. The point is the FALL tournaments are over priced. |

It's really funny watching the whole scenario of baseball this fall. All these teams paying big bucks to play at East Cobb and this is what you get;
-to start off the high entry fee(especially for a round robin)
-the trip to East Cobb and facilities scattered all over Georgia which includes the money for gas and extreme traffic at times especially rush hour through the city on Friday night
-you get there you pay an entry fee
-you may possibly have to pay for sleeping accommodations (and the East Cobb site says pay another $200.00 if you don't stay in their allotted accommodations)
-play at facilities with no scoreboards, no concessions, no scouts, sub par umping at times, questionable rest rooms
-there is no updates on their website on how all of the teams are doing (scores etc.)or game times
-possibility of having to wait hours before your next game that is possibly at another facility miles away. Especially having to wait Saturday afternoon for all the teams to finish to get your next game time which may or may not be Saturday night
-being fall ball the competition is sub par at best some times
It's interesting,you can break these East Cobb fall tournies down and with all of these points the teams keep coming, so complaining is pretty much useless, it is what it is. Are there other options for fall ball? Sure, play tournaments with other associations, organize friendlies with other teams in either a round robin format or just double headers and split costs. Doing this you can get enough good competition and playing time to get all the work you'll need in the fall. Play the smaller local tournaments, this will also give you some good playing time. As far as exposure is concerned, there really isn't any until you are in the 17 and 18 year old ages. If your player is still playing at these ages, save your money for the exposure tournaments to try to get to the next level. Again, if you continue to play the fall tournaments at East Cobb, it is what it is, you do have alternatives.

Parents: stop deluding yourselves that playing a couple games at ecb or going to some remote location for a "showcase" tournament is worth anything at all toward advancing your sons baseball .
There are a ton of alternatives so use em !

Let me give to everyone this straight from the horses mouth , thats a professional baseball scout.
Scouts dont have interest and dont have time to come to any baseball tournament just to go fishin ' ; maybe hoping to walk around and see some player by chance who looks good
Might be couple big time tournaments in Florida couple times a year where they show up but then I am told their on the scene already looking for someone spicific maybe a handfull of players spicific and thats it.
Thats the way it is , its not like The Natural movie where you just com out of nowhere and get to the big show , just by happenstance .
Thats what Im told by those who do it all year |

Nice job working "happenstance" into your message. 
To your point, there are only key places that scounts are going to see players:
* College and Pro - Showcase Tournaments (East Cobb Summer PG WWBA Tournaments, Fall PG Ft. Myers and Jupiter World Championships and Showcases, Non-Perfect Game Showcases, USA Baseball Trials, and other type events. These are typically advertised that there will be scouts present.
If you want to ensure you get seen by scouts from a particular college, or group of colleges, go to the camps that they are putting on so you know they will specifically be there. Every one wants to say these are money makers for the program, which they are a revenue source for their budget, but the one we have attended have been well ran, and good for player who are there just to get some instruction and also those who are there to get some exposure. They typically give a feedback sheet to the players after the camp to let them know what they saw and what they need to work on. Most of the time these are not expensive ($85 to $250 depending on the number of days and the number of schools participating). Most college camps have a mix of D1, D2, D3, and Juco schools there which allows you to be seen by schools from all levels.
As Coach Dan said, Scouts are not wandering around to Fall tournaments, or HS games for that matter, just hoping to see if anyone piques interest. They show up to HS games to see players after they have seen them in one of the above events.
Budgets are tight, so scounts have to get their money's worth on where they go. |

My experience has been that the fall is a big time for recruiting. However, not at Triple Crown or any other type of tournament. You just don't see scouts at those. It's not bad, once you reach 17 to go to one of those "Showcase Tournaments" at a college. These are usually sponsored, as a fundraiser, by some travel team and are played at a college field. The coaches from that college are usually there. Usually no one else. Like I said, these are OK, but not great. Coaches will be looking for something particular and if they see it, they will talk to the player.
Where most of the recruiting goes on in the fall is at individual showcases and camps. These would be the PG showcases and individual college camps. If you have interest in attending a particular college, find out when they are holding their camps. Send the coach an email ahead of time, let them know you are interested in their school and that you will be coming to their camp. Hopefully, the coaches will be familiar with you already from the PG tournaments over the summer and will take note of you during their camp. PG has an individual showcase in September that is good to go to. Young Harris has two good showcases in August and October that would be good to attend. North Gwinnett HS does a good showcase in November that is inexpensive and a good place to go.
Then you have the PG Underclass World Championship in Ft. Myers and the PG World Championship in Jupiter. Both of these are in October. These two events will have more scouts at them then you can even imagine. Especially the Jupiter event.
My son's team also does workouts and intersquad games for several different colleges in the fall. This year we went to Columbus State University and Georgia Southern University. His team is a program, so we took whoever wanted to go from the 16, 17 and 18 year old teams. Do a short practice, then play each other for however long we need to get all the pitchers seen. Coaches from those schools are there the whole time. Good way to get on the map for these schools.
Anyway, that's about it. If you are looking for exposure, don't play 3 Crown or USSSA or just about any tournament in the fall. If you have a school that is already interested in you, you can let them know you are playing there if they want to come out to see you, but you are not going to get discovered at one of these. I kind of see these as ways to just keep playing and stay sharp.
