Does anyone know of any really well run baseball camps? I am not talking about the local 9:00 to 2:00 type camps. Those are great, but what about the next level? My son is spending this week at an ice hockey camp and I have never seen any camp so well run. This camp has ninety 12 to 14 year olds. They spend the week using the collage ice hockey facilities, stay in the dorms, and work on hockey 12 hours a day. In addition to the ice hockey skills, they learn about wieght training, take yoga for core strength and have daily video analysis.
If I could find a baseball camp like that I would sign my son up tomorrow. |

There are several baseball camps held around the south at many of the colleges. I know Ga Tech, FSU, and several of the smaller colleges offer baseball camps. Don't think there are too many left at this point in the summer though. |

Thanks BBall99,
I am even looking for next summer. We have done the camp at Ga Tech and Emory. I am looking for something at a much higher level. |

Clemson is by far the best we have ever attended; 4 day camp, baseball from 8:00AM until 7:30PM, 20-25 college and HS coaches plus Clemson Players. |

The best camp I have been too was at Brigham Young University. The cost for 2 1/2 days is only $399.00 Includes dorms, food 3 times a day at the college, buffet style, instruction for all 3 groups: Fielding, Pitching and Hitting with the their coaching staff. They also played a full game every day. They broke the groups up into full teams, there 10 teams with 11 players on each team. They toured the campus in groups and also a had a Sports Psychologist there and spoke with the boys for 1 hr. There were 2 other Colleges there, Juco and DIV III. Each boy had an evaluation card filled out for each area; 60 time, RF throw to 3rd, Catcher POP time, personal batting instruction and general performance evaluation. All done by the head coach, assistant head coach and pitching coach.
Heard about it from a friend. Better than FSU, GT and makes Georgia's look like a T-ball camp for Half the cost. My sons have been to FSU, Tech and Troy. |

Best camp my son attended was a University of Tennessee. They geared it toward the parents as much as toward the kids. They encouraged parents to listen and learn.

With summer right around the corner, any suggestions for high level camps? There seem to be plenty of camps for the 8 to 10 year ols, and then others for high school age players. But what about the serious middle schooler? |

Clemson is close and had a great camp. My kid loved it. All aspects of the game with many college coaches and Clemson players.

Higher level?!?! I wonder ... is a "camp" .... more about marketing and the "F" [raising] word than learning? Hmmm...there must be some learning....wonder how much they'll retain??? Whole 'nother question.
Best spend your hard earned lettuce on "instruction" with a quality instructor.
Kudos for shopping around though. Don't expect the camps to get any better thru "camper surveys".

My son also plays ice hockey. Last summer he attended an incredible camp run by the college hockey coach. He learned more that week, then he had in the previous month. I am hoping to find something similar for baseball. Yes, a lot of camps are just fund raising or day care. But there has to be some good ones out there.
And no, this does not replace good instruction. But I know my son would love to spend a week with other similarly skilled players honing thier skills. |

I looked last night. They also offer a 14u wood bat, but it looks like the only option is a 4 week camp. Too long for us. |

JAY: you sound to be a local travel coach ? Dont worry the camps wont take your players away
And I must total disagree . There are many excellent NCAA school camps that really do instruct from real live coaches who have played the game and coached the game at a high level .
Heres the big one : they make it FUN for the players who are there . It is a game right ?
