I think a good measuring stick for how well a coach did the year before is how many of those kids are still playing the game the next season. I was thinking about it today my son is 12 now and off of his 6U rec allstar team there are 9 out of 12 still playing baseball. I believe all are playing travel.
I agree: I was down at the local rec ball park a few months ago and saw a wooden sign they had put up listing the members of my son's all-star team from 7u. Out of the 12 kids on that team, 7 of them are on his current 11u travel team.
Typically you wont see another decrease in players leaving or dropping out of baseball until they have to hit the big field. By this time some who played when they were younger either get burnout playing or the skill sets needed to play on the larger field have pass them by.
