Sadly their playoff run came to an end on Saturday. After winning the 1st best of 3, our remaining pitchers just could not hit their marks and faced some good hitters. We hit em where they were, and they hit em to where we weren't. I did witness some consistantly bad strike zones, and some really out of position umpiring, but that did not lose us the last 2 games. It just made it hard to watch and the 2 hr drive up from Perry even harder. But all in all it was a good season as it was our first one playing in GISA, and we knocked off the 3rd and 5th ranked teams in the state to get where we did.

It is possible...they call him Skagg now, which is what they have been calling him since 9th grade... I think he played out of Bethesda Park years ago in the Brookwood area.

Yep that is him. Wow how time flys, I think his team at 10 or 11 did well in the Dixie Youth world series that year I first saw him play.

Chris,
I heard a story that a coach took a group of Brookwood boys at a very young age, and developed them all the way thru a H.S. State Championship. Is that true? Who was the coach? does he still Coach? if yes where? Did any of those players get drafted by MLB teams?

As an ump - do you find it hard to just watch games? One of the men on my sons team is an ump and he has a hard time watching bad umpiring.

Since becoming an umpire, now when I watch, I take myself down the line to short outfield and usually keep my mouth shut. I found myself doing more cheering and less yelling at the umpires. It has changed my outlook on the game completely, and the only time I acutally say something is on a rules call. When I go to MLB or NCAA games, I find myself looking at what the umpires are doing and positioning. I actually had the joy of working with a college ump this weekend on a 13AAA field. I asked and he answered, he talked and I listend. He showed me some new hand signals and gave me a few pointers on positioning. I was pleased when he told me I was doing a good job.
