What's the magic about a USSSA roster? Not being familiar with all of the rules, I have a question...
Can a player be on more than one roster (simultaneously) during the season? For instance, if a player participates in USSSA tournament with "Team A" can that player also be on another roster with "Team B"? Or does "Team A" have to "release" the player before "Team B" can add the player to their roster?
Are there penalties for being on multiple rosters (simultaneuously)?

| A player can be on more than one roster (simultaneously) during the season. However, after April 1st, teams that finish in the top 25% of a tournament will have their roster frozen. At this point, players can only play for the team for which they are frozen to in USSSA tournaments. If they want to play for another team, they must first request from their coach that they be "unfrozen" from their current roster. Once unfrozen, they can then be added to another team's roster. The problem for the coach, though, is that once his team's roster gets frozen, he can only add 3 more players to it. If he drops too many players from his frozen roster, he risks not being able to field a team. Keep in mind that I'm only talking about USSSA rules. Other organizations may have their own set of rules. |

From the u-trip rules and by-laws, check out 3.05.A.1 & 3.05.B.1 below. It would appear that they could be on multiple rosters provided that none of the rosters are frozen. Here's a link to the complete rule book.

3.05 Player Roster Eligibility –
3.05.A PRIOR TO BEING FROZEN TO AN OFFICIAL ONLINE ROSTER;
3.05.A.1 Players shall be permitted to participate with multiple teams in the same age division.
3.05.A.2 Players shall only physically play for one (1) team per day, event, tournament, week or weekend, regardless of age division and / or classification.
3.05.B AFTER BEING FROZEN TO AN OFFICIAL ONLINE ROSTER;
3.05.B.1 Players shall only appear on one (1) Official Online Roster per age division and shall only participate with such frozen team (unless previously released pursuant to these rules).
3.05.B.2 Players participating in multiple age divisions shall only appear on one (1) Official Online Roster per age division and shall only participate with such frozen team(s) (unless previously released pursuant to these rules) but shall not participate on any team below the classification of the oldest team in which they participate on.
3.05.B.3 Players shall only physically play for one (1) team per day, event, tournament, week or weekend, regardless of age division and / or classification. |

OK, I get that but does the same apply to Triple Crown tournaments? My son is frozen on his roster (Team A) and was asked to "fill in" for Team B that only had 8 players available for this week's tournament. Team A had no games scheduled and I really didn't see a problem. I was informed (mis-informed maybe?) that Triple Crown events did not require being "unfrozen" in order to participate on another team. I am not a big fan of the politics of baseball at this level and I was just trying to get my kid some extra playing time. When our coach found out, he told me my son would have to be removed from Team A roster and might not be able to return. Bottom line our coach didn't really have to give me an 'excuse' if he didn't want my son to play this weekend. It's kind of like if I wanted my son to start at second base and the coach sent him to right field, so be it. Still, I would like to know what the rules are.

It's on their web site. Team A's Manager has to give permission for him to play on Team B. Then he is officially on Team B and they have to do the reverse. Then I think he can't move again.
I may have some of the details not exactly right, but I think that's close.
Bottom line, if you're going to play in the tournaments put on by the big organizations, pick a team and stick with it. Everybody is safe that way. It's not their job to make sure our kids get to play every weekend.

So, Donny what are the roster rules for Triple Crown? I looked on the website and can not find them. Just curious. |
