With all of the pools and all of the teams aroud the country, its an absolute shame that they only put all of the pool winners and one wild card in the championship bracket. Several teams that should have been competing and would have gone deep into the bracket were eliminated with one loss. With $10 gate fees, teams from as far west as Texas and as far north as Massachusetts, and 600+ registration fees, they should have at the very least accomidated the first 2 in each pool. Good example is the Houston (TX) Sox, losing a pool game 3-2 to the #1 Astros and being sent home. I think they were left out based on 5 runs less scored, tied for runs allowed. If I were them, I would be fling a complaint to PG.

East Cobb opening Field 5 (260ft fences)? I know Field 1 was out of comission but there is no reason why that field should have been used at all with the talent in this Tournament. There were a lot of cheap HR's hit.

Also, the scorekeeping, blogs and wrap ups on the website seemed to be sketchy. One of our pitchers threw a 7 inning shutout and the only items mentioned in the blog were 2 of our kids going 3-3. I cannot understand how you leave that out. Was it because he didnt hit 80 in the process? If they are going to blog with the kids names, and put their pitching or hitting stats next to their names in the game wrap where everyone can see it, they need to get it right. With regards to the pitching stats, some of these "kids" don't know the difference between an earned and an unearned run.

My guess is that looking around this weekend is that some of these PG folks were not the experienced ones that scout the older kids. On top of that, they were keeping a scorebook, writing notes, and maintaining the scoreboard. Too much to do to be accurate with the reporting.

That being said, I was wondering how you all thought about the experience this weekend.

- Very good umpiring in all games I saw.
- Well run and well organized. Web site was okay too.
- Pricey gate fees but we all knew that going in.
- Kell High School needs some shade!
- A few Georgia teams won their pools -- ECB Phillies, Titans made final 16 and Astros are still going. Good job to all three.
- The wrap ups are for parents I think, not so much scouts. I like seeing my son's name too but this isn't ESPN.
- Field 5 is way too small for 14's with this much power.
- Difference maker: the best teams have physically bigger players compiled from all over. Many are not teams that play together week in and out -- they are tournament teams.
- Coaching seems to be the biggest difference maker in close games. A few local teams won close games because their coaches put them in the position to win. The coaches whose teams struggled need to watch more games with good coaching.
- A lot of fun, overall.

its off shoot from the hi age group who pay big bucks to play in front of scouts

thats right scouts dont have intrest or resources to follow any 14 year olds so the wrap ups are for the families and kids to enjoy and its got to be a large draw card for pg.

Umpires were so so. I think better at East Cobb than Kell. I may have had a lot to do with the heat, some phantom tags and very wide strike zones. Son was called out looking twice over the weekend, one ball nearly hit him inside and one was outside off the plate about 6 inches. I think by the same umpire. I think that he has only struck out 8-10 times in over 100 plate appearances this year and, thinking back, I believe 1/2 of them have been games at Kell. Maybe its just the park!

Another instance of a bad call was a kid from another team team in one of our games slid home and was clearly safe, ump called him out. Also at Kell. However, I didnt like the kid sitting on his rear end pounding on the plate like a 6 year old saying over and over that he was on the plate pointing to his feet. It was somewhat funny, but he should have been tossed. No excuse for that.

Astros and Dodgers for the title again. Both strong teams worthy of the championship. I heard that 2 of the Astros have gone deep, with the wood bats, on the upper fields. Very impressive power.

First of all you cant complain about who is in your pool, its a small round robin and the best team advances. Same as a 2 pool then single elimination but your given 3 pool games Its big boy baseball, win or go home.

I agree some got easier draws than others but you got to win. Maybe another 2 wildcard teams perhaps? What is really a shame is teams not playing their consolation games and going home.

Also remember this is showcase ball where you play to be seen and it does not always matter when or where you play.

BIggest complain is not all scoreboards were working and there is no excuse for this

I think for $ 10 / person, PG could have ordered some cooler weather....man it was HOT !!!! Games were fun, opposing teams were awesome and nice to play out of state talent.

We ran up to watch weekend play saw good talent.

Caught my attention were kids watching the radar guns and some pitchers maybe throwing for the gun maybe more than to the plate !

Give me a kid anyday who throws strikes and makes the opposing team hit it into play over the speedballer who cant find the plate and hits batters but 'looks good' popping that catchers glove !

Repeat - scouts are not looking at these games but Perfect Game knows how to sell it as if .

Gasbag,
They ordered sunshine over rain. I guess they forgot to specify a max temperature because it certainly was hot.

To all,
Great competition. The blogs were for the parents and players, and they did a good job of posting them. They also keep specific details in their database on these kids. As they attend other events, particularly showcases, their file will grow. If your son is not interested in playing ball in college, you won't give a rip about all of that. If he is, getting this info started with PG may help down the road.

I question whether the info they track is accurate. One of our consolation games wasnt scored on the website nor was there a "wrap" about it. Another had a score but no wrap. So who was responsible for turning that information in? Did they have a PG rep scoring every single game including all the consolation games?

They were supposed to have a PG rep at all games. All the games I saw (ones our kids were playing in and also ones other teams were in.) had PG staff running radar guns and keeping the offical book for the game. I admit that I did not get to see as many games as usual because that "Full-time Job" thing got in the way.

14U is the beginning introduction to Perfect Game. As players move up the ladder, they more coverage they will see.

I didnt see any radar guns at non ECB locations. They may have been there but i didnt see them at Dominion Christian nor Kennesaw Mtn when we played there.

Kell had one in the score box. I cant speak to the others. We were fortunate enough to play all of ours at Kell and East Cobb.
