powerful clain teddy41 - lot of judgements to make those claims and why I never do....Astros 13 have a solid squad - many 14u teams equally solid...some moreso ... This whole best of the best thing makes me smile - Hard to define "BEST" teams in a one game set - Lots of talent around that's for sure! |

Teddy - I know you love your 13U Astros, but just a reminder that they have been beaten by the Paulding County Vipers, Milton twice, and Team Gwinnett. They are not the best 14U team. They had a good tournament and a lot of things fell in place for them. But let's don't go crazy here. Had the Stallions not beaten the 14U Astros, the Astros would have crushed them. And if the Stallions didn't have to play them in a quick turnaround after an emotional win, the Stallions would have probably knocked them out too. Then they would have had a nice, but very average tournament as seen on this board. But people want to make whoever last week's tournament champion is the best team in 14U. The best team in 14U travel ball is the Astros...period! |

I agree, sometimes it is better to be lucky than good, and sometimes it is better to be both at the same time. No doubt there are better 14U teams than the 13U Astros. But that is why we play every game. Would the 14u Astros been out of gas had they beat the Stallions and then would they have lost to the 13U team? All that doesn't matter. For that weekend, the 13U team gets the bragging rights. You can't claim, foul, what if, the sun got in my eye.......you know what I mean. The games were played and they won, this time. Congrats. And good luck to everyone the rest of the season, because you be playing each other again, and you may win or lose again, but you will have had a blast playing the greatest game on EARTH-BASEBALL! |

Luck is defined as "when preparation meets opportunity" ! 13U Astros were the best....for the Tournament ONLY. Are they the best 14U Team in Georgia ? Absolutely not !!!! Are they a good ball club....ABSOLUTELY....but let's not get CRAZY with pronouncing them best in class.
On the other hand, let's not make excuses for other teams whom played the 13U Astros and lost. Had those teams won, I feel confident we would not be hearing the status of their emotional state....players injured or out etc.
Just enjoy a tournament victory for what it is ( one tournament ) cause guess what.....everyone is preparing for this weeks tournament already and only us old folks are still caught in the past ! |

No dog in this fight for us .
Tho if your talking about 14 year baseball I have to chuckle about the "emotional letdown" excuse after one game causing a loss in the next game !
Lets say congrats to the 13 year Astros ending out as winners of the weekend . |

Now there's a topic waiting to be discussed: getting beat by a team "playing up". Let's face it though - it happens. And I've seen it before - most teams that have lost to the "playing up" team didn't take the younger team as seriously as they might have taken a team in their own age classification. It's natural. It's like playing your little brother's team - by the 2nd inning you realize they're pretty good, in the 5th, still trailing, you start knocking over bats in the dugout - anything to find that extra something. Next thing you know it's the last out and it's "ballgame" and you're high fiving your grinning little brother and his pals over the mound.
It's humbling and it happens. It's also a lesson for the big boys to take every opponent seriously - especially the younger teams with the nerve to play up in a major class tourney.

Does it strike anyone as weird that an ASTRO team has to win the tournament every week, regardless of whether they're 13 or 14??????? Or is it just a coincidence???? |

Top gun you are probably right but it sounds like sour grapes when you use the terms "would" "if" "have" "probably" those are all words that mean nothing between the lines.
When the astros won the elite 32 no one wanted to hear other teams saying 'well if" or the would have?

Teddy, Great team but 13U Astros are not in the top 5 and probably not in the top 10 teams in the 14U division. But, I do like the spunk of you getting everyone fired up! Coal Mountain is a good 14U AAA team and they beat the 13U Astros I think if you go back and check your books, you may have been beaten by a few 14U AAA teams this year, not in USSSA but in other tournaments and none of those teams are in the top 5 teams in Ga. Good try though and I am sure those kids are great players and deserve to win last weekend! Great Job!
