From the Triple Crown Web Site:

14 AND UNDER DIVISION (60/90) (WILL SPLIT INTO SILVER AND GOLD BRACKETS AFTER POOL PLAY!):

Don't worry 6-4-3. I'm confident your Team Gwinnett Blues will make the Gold

That definitely is a tough pool with Astros, Big Stixx and TG White. Should one of those teams go to the silver bracket...Yikes! One thing that is squirrely with the brackets...why are pools J and K doing a cross over game rather than play the teams listed in your pools? No other pools do that at all. Only J and K. Scrambledawgs (K3) play J2(Shamrocks) and J3(W Cobb Dawgs). Astros 13u(K1) play Outlaws(J1). WCOBB Dawgs(J3) play K2 and K3. anyone know why?

crackedbats,

The only reason we had to cross pools in J and K is because we had nobody left to play from Friday night (See 2 instances {Milton Eagles and Creekview} had to play doubleheaders. Then we had no other teams left to play from the 6:00 pm time slots to play early on Saturday morning. Did not want to commit the ultimate sin and play teams with the 8:30 pm game Friday night and have to turn around and play them first thing Saturday morning at 8:00 am. Picked two new teams (eventhough in different pools) who could come out and play their first pool game on Saturday morning at 8:00 am. Did not want to do it, but had very limited choices. I hope this clears the air on why we did this in those two pools. Look forward to a great weekend and best of luck to all the teams, Thank you all for your kind words here and being a continued supporter of Triple Crown Baseball!

Thank you.

Makes sense Tony. Yes the Cardinal sin of travel ball is to schedule the same time the late game on Fri and early game on sat am. I am glad someone has paid attention to that.

It should be a great tournament Tony.

643,
So, you would want to see #1 vs. #33 in the opening round of the bracket?

Watch out for Rawlings. That coaching staff will get them ready. They wont be as beatable as they have been.

thanks Tony-that certainly makes sense. I know our team which is one in those pools would not be happy with the 8:30pm and 8:00am.

Without two brackets at least 1/3 of these teams wouldn't be in this tournament. Even some of the Major teams would probably pass.

The nature of the tournament changed dramatically from Friday to Tuesday. There are at least a couple of elite teams that just got in this week. If they had committed earlier, and there was only one bracket, a lot of teams would be looking at other options this week.

So maybe you can convince Triple Crown and ECB that it's better to have a "pure" 16-20 team tournament than a "tainted" 33 team tournament, but I doubt it.

Allstar,
What is tainted about the 33 teams? I have agreed with others that it would be nice for teams to be able to designate which bracket they are shooting for, ahead of time, but all in all this will be a good tournament. I don't see any tainting.

Loveforthegame...I hope you're right about Rawlings, but I'm a bit of a doubter right now.

I have to agree with scottwill & All-Star...splitting into two brackets is best for all...if you can't beat the big boys early you probably aren't going to beat them late.

Tony, thanks for doing things right. You'll never make 33 of 33 happy, but I guarantee the majority know you're doing it right.

Alter...We got our answer for one of the questions we were debating on Sunday. The other is truly one of the great mysteries of the 21st century.

I don't think it's tainted. I think calling the winner of the Silver bracket 15th place and saying that there should be a single bracket implies that the poster who said that thinks it is.

I think both brackets will be exciting.

Anyone but me notice that Rawlings and Titans always play on ECB Field #1 or #2 during pool play? Would Rawlings be playing on those fields if the ECB Field scheduler wasn't the coach? And would the Titans be playing there all the time if the head of the ECB Academy wasn't the head coach. Now THAT's home cooking! The 2 best 14U teams at ECB don't even have a pool play game on the property!

SP,
You're half right; 14U Astros don't have a pool game at East Cobb, but the Longhorns do.

Other than the drive....does it matter where they play ? Will that impact the outcome of any of the games ? Not sure what the point is of your comment.

More of a horns fan here. But a realist.

I guess it's hard to assess the better teams unless you are part of a team that participates regularly in these tournaments, or are around on Sundays to watch the games when they do participate in them.

So, how about this?

If you go 1-1, your in the Gold and 0-2 teams play for Silver. You give the teams that win 1 a chance, not based on how they won (run differential, etc.) In the March Mayhem, Backyard Brawl and Spring Frost, each tourney had approximately 6 teams go 0-2, enoug for a quick consolation bracket. Any thoughts?

That's not bad, but even with that you would still have a (smaller) group of teams deciding that they would be better off doing something else this weekend. Maybe that's as it should be.

All I know is that when my son isn't playing, we will likely be at one of the venues watching.

2nd place, 8th place, last place...all have the same thing in common...

They aren't 1st place. Nobody honestly remembers or cares who came in second or the excuses or reasons why.

Been on, around and part of this age group on Sundays long enough to know who is who and frankly none of that really matters either.

Nobody cares except for those of us involved.

By the way, junior has more than enough trophies in the closet...and the playing time on Sunday to go with it.

Inga you are right nobody really cares but us involved. All I ever see here is Dads complaing or trying to figure out who is better than who. If it was really all that important to our boys why don't we ever see or hear them talking about this nonsense?

Actually that's not true. My son's team finished 28th in Cooperstown and I would wager remembers it every bit as well and fondly as the 27 teams that finished in front of them.

If we had that "just win, baby" attitude, these would have been a miserable 5 years.
