I predict the Bandits will win this tournament...

Well I actually heard they just did against the Cincinnati Stix 8-6

I think that battery company should have named their product the "Energizer Bandits" They just keep going, and going, and going.

Their mental toughness dwarfs their physical prowess, and that's saying a lot.

Yep, another rain shortened Battle In The South. Good tournament if not for the floods that came thru the state.

Whitlow: You are right but it was a very hard earned victory. As you know a lot of the pool games did not get to be finished and only the top 5 teams advanced to bracket play. This was such a shame as in my mind there were more than 5 teams that would have had a shot at victory lane given the chance. This might be a good lesson for all teams that think pool play is not that important.

The top 5 teams after pool was the Motor City Hit Dogs that look to have retooled and didn't look close to what I remember from last year, The Charlotte Hurricanes that was a early favorite of many of the people at the Battle in the South, The Dirt Bags that was the former Carolina Angels, and the Cincinnati Stix that we faced in the finals. In the semis and the finals the Bandits were down until late in the game and pulled out 2 big innings that drove us into victory lane.

This should answer a lot of questions that has been asked lately about the Bandits. They have played hurt for the past several weeks and had another serious injury when our lead off hitter got hit in the knee on the 2nd pitch of the finals and was forced to stay and play the entire game in a great amount of pain and even got the winning hit in the bottom of the 5th against the Stixx. I can't say enough about the way our kids have handled the last few weeks and in my mind this only proves the caliber of kids that they really are.

This was a huge win for the Bandits as this tournament was attended by at least 7 States including Michigan and Missouri. This one was tough and we feel very fortunate to have pulled it off.

I was also glad to be able to meet with you and wish and Collins Hill Good Luck and hope to see you again soon.

Well I'm glad we held the NC Dirt Bags who made it to the final four to 6-2 with no homers. I was told in their second pool game they hit six home runs and three of them was by one player. We were up 1-0 until about the 3rd inning. I thought our hitting was off, but sometimes good pitching will do that to you.

That was really neat having teams from 7 states. Wish we could do that here in Dalton or East Cobb.

I think that was the biggest topic - Why can't we have a tournament like this at a better facility. But, in the end, we would play in a sandlot to face better competition.

frydaddy, you are right. Our coach chose this tournament over the Super NIT in Tenn last weekend because of the competition level. It's a shame that so many good teams weren't given the opportunity to play in bracket. Ultimately, the director made the right decision though. The championship game was barely completed. Actually, it was called in the top of the 6th with 2 outs and 2 strikes on the batter.

I also have to say that the officiating I saw was Top Notch which made this tourney a better experience than most.

Umpiring was good until the final day when 2 of the worst umpires on the planet got the nod to call the semi's and final's. I don't think that you would get an argument out of any of the 5 teams that were there that these 2 were really bad. The level of competition was off the charts but this tournament to be the best in the South has got to find a new home and a different venue. And this observation comes from the winner not the loser of the tournament.

I have to agree with you Papa, this place was terrible. The fields looked nice but thats just it "looked". I know that at tournaments it should be about the baseball but there was nothing to do in this small backwoods mountain town. There was a McDonalds and a Hardies, thats it although we did find our hotel had something I've never seen, a theater in it. The most amusing thing we did besides baseball was stand in the parking lot of the hotel and search the sky for a tornado that thankfully never showed up.

Would I go back to this tournament absolutely not!!!

I felt the same way about the umpires and the fields. The kids said the outfields had holes. I thought the field crews could have tried a little harder or asked for help getting the fields ready after rain. I was surprised they gave up on the 3rd field with lights. I admit it was a mess, but I would have thought they would been ready with more equipment or some way to fix it. I saw some really high strike calls and some plays at second base were the umpire wasn't even looking with his back to the play and didn't even make a call. We were lured by the invitation and the competition. I just wish we could have played better and won some games.

Whitlow, I think your team played very well. I certainly wouldn't be hanging my head if I were an Eagle right now.
