What a great weekend of baseball! Another well run Triple Crown tourney. How about those Holly Springs Express. Seeded 12th after playing Sandtown and the Cougars in pool play to turn around and beat both those teams to win the championship!

Way to go Holly Springs. It goes to show you that Sandtown is beatable. I predict they will get beaten a few times this year.

Yes, Congratulations to the Holly Springs Express!!!

I guess the Holly Springs Express and Lynn Haven LongHorns showed that Pool Play doesn't always matter this weekend.

Indeed pool play doesn't always matter. I've seen that with our Jackets Gold first hand. I missed the games where Holly Springs Express got run ruled in their pool play. But I was lucky to witness each of their bracket play games. Beginning Saturday night as the lowest seed facing elimination about mid game there was a significant shift in momentum and the Express were able to come from behind to thwart the Venom.

With their confidence back and the bats working the next morning they simply ran right by the undefeated ECB Luck and run ruled them. Right then and there I knew it would be a good game between the Express and Sand Town so I just had to stay and watch it. Believe me when I tell you this that this game alone was worthy of paying an admission fee to see. This was baseball the way it should be. Great pitching, great defense, great hitting, and great strategy. To think of keeping Sand Town off the scoreboard is almost unheard of. Those guys run the bases so well. Also Sand Town threw out two different runners attempting to score from third on suicide squeeze plays to keep the game at 1-0. Even down to their last strike in the bottom of the 6th they managed to get a hit and steal second base. So the game ended on a long fly ball to center field with the tying run on 2nd base.

Sometimes, like in the NFL, the semi-finals can be better than the finals. And going up against 643 Cougars the Express, having played one more game, were really up against it with available pitching. Still, you could feel this was a team of destiny at this point and they jumped all over the Cougars to the tune of 5-0 before the 2nd inning was even over. At that point it was only a matter of time or if the Cougars had a rally in them.

Congratulations and great job to coaches Fitzgerald, Gehl, Davis, and all the Holly Springs Express!!!

Thanks Tony. you guys are a class act. That was a great defensive game by both teams. Some of your defensive plays made me look really silly as a 3rd base coach. Good luck with the season.

We did not play like we did that Sunday in the Nations Baseball Georgia Invitational. We had a lot of errors in our last game. I was happy we made the final four teams. It was another learning experience against fantastic major caliber teams that we are playing for the first time this season. Hopefully our coaches will sign us up for more tournaments like this and we will learn from it and get better.

Holly Springs deserves all the kudos because they really ran the gauntlet to win the championship.
