LonghornPapa6: Baseball Papa knows exactly where you are coming from. My Bandit family has become just like my blood family. I am so proud to be a part and share this experience with baseball families that we have all come to love and respect.

As you know we have been chasing the memories for 3 hard years now and have traveled much of the road that your kids are going down now. I would love to tell you that it all good times and the majority of it is all good times but there are potholes that will pop up in your path so get ready for them. As you climb higher there will always be the ones that want to pull you down from what they consider their mountain. Hang tough and prove yourself the only place you can prove yourself and that it is on the baseball field. The greater your success the harder they will tug at you so when you feel them jerking at your legs, kick em in the mouth.

Teach you kids to respect the game. This is the greatest game ever invented and just as soon as you think you have it figured out it will bite you in the rear end. Good luck to you and your kids and I hope to meet you soon.

Well, in 7 years they will be 17 and 18 years old.
Hopefully, they will realize that we supported their love for the game with every ounce of our energy we had to offer.
Hopefully, they will have enjoyed the ride as much as we have.
Hopefully, they will realize the sacrifices we made so that they had the opportunity to play this great game.
Hopefully, they are not affected by the people who hold negative views of our fanatical support of them playing.
And lastly, I hope they don't let those who tell them "11u baseball doesn't matter" squash their aspirations to be great ball players. Actually, they already are great ball players - all of them.

A lot changes around that time, physically and mentally. It will be interesting to see who is still around and has the same love for the game then as they do now.

Here's the thing about being "fanatical." I haven't seen these teams play, so I don't know what level of fanaticism you are referring to, but ... I'm going to chime in anyway.

I have 3 boys from age 11 - 15 playing travel (and now 2 playing school ball). No, I haven't been around for 20 years like some of you, but I've seen a lot over the past 10 year.

My boys love the game, and they always have up to this point. If any of them decides to walk away from baseball tomorrow, these years will not have been wasted. They have learned amazing life lessons (both the ups and downs), we have had plenty of learning opportunities as parents and families, and the boys have all loved the ride.

Make the best of each moment, stop worrying about "who's going to be around in a few years," and parent your kids by making the best decisions you can along the way and supporting them in their endeavors.

As an example of "where are they now", we had a JV game this past weekend. There was a kid on the other team who used to always be bigger, faster, stronger, better than most of the other kids around him. He stopped growing, and now he is just above average. So what! He's still working hard and loving the game. Let's move on from this type of "we'll see" negativity.

Of course we'll see. So what? Move on.

BaseballPapa...Sometimes I feel like the bond within our baseball family is closer than our own blood family. The fact is that my grandson and I live for the game, and he and I love the Longhorn experience. But unfortunately, members inside our own family are the one's "jerking at our legs", and I am the one having to "kick them in the mouth" to help them realize the value of baseball inside life for my grandson. I was his baseball coach from T-ball up until he joined The Longhorns in the fall of 2008, and he was a big part of the puzzle that took the team to a 10U Dizzy Dean national championship last year. Now, I am a huge supporter of Longhorn baseball. And I am his, and the team's biggest fan!!! My grandson is now living in Virginia with his mom and stepdad until July when he comes back home to play for The Longhorns for the remaining summer into, and thru The Elite 32 @ Disney in August. So, I am sad that he is missing out on the current schedule of tournament play with the team... hence making him "The Missing Longhorn" I know first hand how much you must love the great baseball experience with your own grandson, and I can appreciate your love for the game. Thanks again for your input, and I hope to meet you soon, as well.
