Who is planning to play NWBA this season?
We all get a lot out of the work that Stan has put into this website, but I get the sense that some coaches at this age don't want to play games that count, except in tournaments.
My team has used NWBA to schedule mid-week games and schedule games on weekends we are not playing in tournaments (2-4 on a weekend). It's a very inexpensive way to get in some real competition and develop players at different positions without the pressure of a winning a tournament game to move on. The games do count which makes it more than a scrimmage, and our team has benefited greatly, especially with pitching.
If you haven't considered it, I would encourage you all to think about joining NWBA for 2010. I'd love to see some of the Major teams playing against each other in this league for 2010. If we all play, it could be an exceptional league and would be good experience for all of our players. Of course, if anyone wants to contact me, I'd be happy to help answer any questions. The only problem I have seen is on the weekends. All of the weekday games were great, no problems. I would schedule weekday games at 7 pm to give everyone enough time to get to the park after work.
The big problem is during the weekend. We had several weekend games cancelled at the last minute. And later found the team that cancelled was playing in a tournament. We found several teams signed up for several different tournaments on weekends they knew they had NWBA league games scheduled.
Otherwise its a good thing to play in a league with teams of similar talent. |

how about a tourney only division? All games M-Th. I've seen it done elsewhere successfully. |

That is an option and we have set up Divisions like this before. Our philosophy is to get the teams together and let each age group set up a structure that makes the most sense for that group of teams. We have had geographical, playing level, feeder, tournament and several other types of divisions in the past. If we can get the input we can structure divisions that will work for any type of team.
