200' Fields is a little small for 12s...That's actually the size field I think is appropriate for 10s if you do not want a home run fest. And Titan1 you are absolutely right, the jealousy over the Bandits is almost sad. Complain when they pick up new guys, complain when they play 12s, seems like everybody has an opinion on them when other teams do the exact same things minus the winning. If I was coaching 11s I would love them to continue to play the 12s all season long. Because I'm pretty sure they only lost 2 games in their own age group last season.

All I can say is the bandits lost a close game to the team that eventually played in the championship. I think most of the 11U teams just want their shot at the Bandits and would rather them play down. I say if you want to compete with them then jump in some of these 12U tournaments and see how "WEAK" the field really is.

For the 12u games, 5 were played on a field that was 209 ft in corners/212 in center. The other 7 were on a 275 ft field. There were eight 12u teams registered but one dropped out on Wednesday so we were stuck with 4/3 split. I think we may have filled that slot if that spot wasn't scheduled to play the Astros. Plus, no 12u team wanted to play the Bandits (can you blame them?). I can't say that I like the 4/3 split either but it's USTBA rules which we don't control. We will give this feedback to Paul at USTBA for re-consideration.

We are considering a wood bat for the Spring tournament over Memorial Day weekend which I think makes this size field perfect for 12u. If anyone has any thoughts on this, we'd love to hear them.

Thanks again for all the nice comments.

Everyone is talking about the Bandits, lets move to the jackets, they came out this weekend and took care of their business.

I would like to congratulate the jackets on winning this tournament. They had a great showing against the jags. Their pitchers did a great job, I think the jaguars maybe had one or two hits. Great job Jackets.

You could really see the rust on all the teams bats.
I think this weekend will present some of the same challenges.

Amen to that Stallion. We played the Jackets in the TC Fall State tournament when they were less than full strength and a couple of their players really stood out at that time. I think they might be the sleeper in the 11u group this year.

Papa took a good long look at the Jackets. I remember them well and can attest that they have always been great hitters. It seems to me that they are now putting the rest of their game together and if they truly are then they will be a force to be reckoned with in the 11U division. I thought the Chili Dogs also looked good although they did have the one bad game but they will work that out and they also must be considered.

Just be consistent. Nobody complained when the 3 bombs were hit last year on a 185 ish field at TC state why now? Is this worse? If you don't like the splits don't sign up for these tourneys. By the way longhorn1 IS envious of the Bandits!!! Just wanted to clear that up. I was there and pulling for you guys against the Braves! Would love to have seen 13 finish the game. There is no way I could pull against our elite giant playing up. You guys validate just how tough our age group is!! Good luck this weekend.

To begin with: no one respects the Bandits more than me. Extremely envious of your team talent top to bottom. However, when you play up and things don't go your way. No whining. The rules are what they are and I assure you they are the same for all teams. You guys had a great first tournament but looks like it has been a while since Papa had to experience a loss that you think you should have won. Welcome to the world of baseball for the rest of us.

Shut Out: You are dead wrong once again. Papa has had his rear beat more than you will ever know. You've never heard me whine about a loss. If it's whining to bring out that splitting a 7 team bracket is stupid then I am whining about that but it appears more agree with me than not concerning that. If there is such a thing as a good loss then losing to the East Cobb Braves that have a great baseball team would fall into that category. We got a lot of experience and had a lot of fun playing them. Their kids have a lot of class and treated our guys with the same respect we did them.

There should be more of a difference than 20-25 feet when you consider 10U versus 12U

Ding Dong, the Horse is Dead, The Horse is Dead, The Wicked Split Horse is Dead. Trying a little Wizard of Oz stuff her but it doesn't rhyme as good as when Judy Garland did it.

Okay against all my better judgement I am going to predict one team will end up top 4 in this tournament no one is even considering. Only hint I will give is they are in pool D.

Shutout: You know Papa loves you and I am sure it want be the last time we don't agree. What's make this games so exciting and full of so many thrills is the fact that we all see things in a different way.
Papa thinks you do a great job and I enjoy all of your posts although I don't agree with you all of them as I am sure you don't always agree with me. I have noticed that we agree more than we disagree.

Of the teams that actually played in the 11U division, did anyone see the Storm from Oregon Park finishing 2nd? They got it handed to them in the final but they had the Jackets in pool play and couldn't hold a lead. Jackets were the better team but they played a great tournament.

Patriotball: Papa watched some of the game you are referring to and many others in the 11U division. I love this division and will say for the record that Papa wants to come back home as soon as possible. I understand the reason my Bandits are playing 12U and agree 100% with the thinking behind it but there is something about the excitement in the 11's that is not present in the 12's. I hope the 12U don't take this the wrong way but even in this forum you will notice less activity on the 12U discussion than most any other. I know they love the game as this is obvious with the way they play and I can testify that there are some really great teams and some very special players in the 12 year old division. I can't wait to see how our 12 year old Georgia boys handle the national competition in the Super NIT. I believe that they will do us all proud. I haven't seen anyone yet that can get close to competing with the 12U Astros although I know from watching them last year that the Southern Jaquars are as good or maybe even better but I haven't seen them this year yet.

Ranking 2 teams out of the same park can be a very sensitive topic. I'll only say that I think the Storm have improved more than the Sharks from last year to current based upon the very little I've seen thus far this year. We played both teams last year, lost to Sharks 12-9 in a rainy muddy USSSA tourney down South, and went 2-1 vs Storm I think. I think the Sharks lost a couple of key players to another team up that way.

Rocky: Too early to tell but it does seem, based on what I saw, that the Storm are better overall. Their talent looks more even up and down the roster. The Sharks bottom half of the line-up fell off pretty badly. Its a long season and I'm sure they will eventually play each other and be able to settle that question on the field. Based on what I saw last year, I think they have dramatically improved.

sounds like the Sharks improved over the week also. A shame you cant combine the two teams and have one awesome team.
