stinger and moser: You both know the respect that Papa gives the East Cobb program but stinger is right in noticing that their talent pool is just as picked over as all of the other teams including the Bandits. What do you two think we would have if we could take the talent pool in Georgia and build just 2-3 great teams out of this rich talent pool. And I mean filled with the right players with no criteria getting them on these teams but talent and desire. In other words no geograhical boundaries and no "daddy picking" or choosing one because he likes playing with his friend. What kind of "dream team" would this look like.

Personally, I like our Georgia set up and feel that it makes many more teams better because of the competition level. It makes you work much harder knowing that there are 8-10 teams in any Georgia tournament that could beat you versus say Florida where you might get beat worse but only by 3-4 teams. It also develops the players better by allowing to play strong competition almost every time out.

PaPa,
Its nice to dream about having 2-3 Elite Georgia teams, but it cant happen around here. We have to learn how Florida does it.

I agree Moser. It seems like that no one is even considering this "super elite" team in the younger divisions and that this concept does not come into play full blown until 15-16 U. But I don't think that it is a bad thing either. As long as the competition stays strong and balanced it pushes us all.

I think it would be neat to see just what could be. I agree with papa that it greatly benefits Georgia to have these players spread out throughout the year. However, I would love to see a well respected and capable coach put an Elite team together during the summer for a few tournaments. This would enable players from across the state to get together to practice and become a team before playing. I am not a big fan of just showing up and playing.

I'm a 14u dad and you guys are saying the EXACT same thing everybody was saying 3 years ago, how great it would be to have a Super Elite team with everybody's best player, etc, etc... well don't worry it will happen. The players are the one's that will make it happen. When your little Johnny stud gets to be 14 years old and says dad I want to go play with so and so over with the Astros, what are you gonna do? tell him no, I don't think so!

In Spring they'll be a handful. Beware!

Shiloh 10U GGBL will be there taking on the Macon Cardinals for the Fall #1 team bragging rights. I didn't see any 11U GGBL'ers in it. In 12U GGBL has 2 Collins Hill teams both called Black Eagles.

We would love to see some of these ggbl teams in Monroe this weekend. OTC Young Guns, Elite Gamers Red, Team GA, and GA Select Red are all playing with several local teams. It would be great to get some of this GGBL talent in the tourney. Go to jbathletics.com for more info.

The 12U Black Eagles are no longer affiliated with Collins Hill Park and the 12U Collins Hill Black Eagles is the new Collins Hill Park team.

Who is the Georgia Rage? They are playing in a USSSA NIT in Social Circle this weekend, yet are not registered w/ USSSA (or if they are the tourney Director has not yet entered them into the system). They beat OTC and Hoco yesterday handily. I'm guessing a throw together team of some strong players who wanted to take advantage for the fine weather.

In the USTBA Fall States, I'm seeing Titans or Scorpions vs Team GA in the finals.

Nothing against the Titans but I bet the Scorpions would love another chance at Team Georgia. Quite the little rivalry seems to be developing with these two. I don't have a pick but the last game they played was with the little guy that threw the floater, efus, or whatever the heck you call it and Team Georgia struggled. This pitch might work for one game but eventually this pitch tends to get lit up as the game progresses. We will see.

PaPa,
Not sure which Titans team you were speaking of, but the EC Titans are for real. I think they are stronger and deeper than Team Georgia. The Titans had been missing boys due to injury, and I got to see most of their Spring team on the field for the first time, and I was impressed. I've gotta put them in my top 3 for Spring.

I haven't heard anything about this weekend's tournaments. Did Team Georgia and Scorpions get to hook up or did someone spoil what was supposed to be the championship game. How did it come out.

Team GA and the Scorpions played in different tournaments. Team GA was in Social Circle with GA Select Red, Elite Gamers Red, Hoco Cubs, OTC Young Guns and some others. Team GA and Elite Gamers Red played in the Championship. Elite Gamers breezed through their half of the bracket after going undefeated in their pool games. Team GA also went undefeated through pool play but had to battle hard against the GA Select Red in the semi-final game. Team GA ends up beating Elite Gamers 9 to 1 in the championship game.

Team GA wasn't in it. Jackets beat the Scorpions in the semi final and EC Titans won the Championship 8-2.

Papa, The Team Georgia was not in this tournament,The Scorpions again had the same pool draw as usual {played rec.team in pool}ended up #1 seed ,but ended up having to face the Ga Jackets in bracket ,but was eliminated in a very heated game, the umps had to stop game as the Ga Jackets coach was very upset because of someone from Scorpions was blowing a whistle as pitcher was fixing to throw the ball.Ga Jackets is going to be a very strong team come spring,You should put them in top 5.

There were 2 tourneys, one South and one in Marietta.

Down South Team GA ran the table, and only GA Select Red gave them a close game (5-4). Team GA beat Elite Gamers Red in the finals (9-1). A new team popped up that did well, GA Rage??? info?

In Marietta, I left after seeing EC Titans beat Kennesaw (Titans had no problems with Outlaws power lefty or righty). Kennesaw committed too many errors, walks, passed balls. They were rusty.

The Jackets beat the Scorpions 6-4 in the other semi. The Scorpions outhit the Jackets 4/3 and hit a 3-run blast to go ahead 4-1, but the Scorpions committed 2 big errors, issued 6BB's, & had 6PB's where runners advanced. Jackets catcher was game MVP: threw out 2 stealing and had a key hit/2rbi's.

The Scorpions successfully worked the clock w/ an intentionally fast strike out in the bottom of the 4th to gain an extra inning,(I'd have changed pitchers after the 2nd intentional whiff to block their ploy) then made a whistling noise during the Jackets pitcher's wind up drawing a warning from the umps while screams of "Bush league" rang out.

Ga Jackets beat SP Wildcats, and then Scorpions in semis to face Titans. Don't know how that game ended. I thought it was a well run tournament.

I would like to hear from the Scorpions side of the whistle thing. Papa has played this team for years and have known them to be a team that I really enjoyed competing against. They have always given their all and played hard but fair. We all know that a whistle should not be blown during the pitchers wind up and I feel sure that Coach Steve would have stopped this quickly.

blowin smoke: Papa has got his eye on these Jackets of yours. I know that you know that they didn't play their best against the Bandits but I am sure that the Bandit pitching might have been a factor there. I did see them play some other games and I can testify that they had better be watched. There was one game I watched where the ball was flying off their bats. If they work on the little things hard then I do expect they will be another contender to deal with in the Spring.

BMOSER - How do you have ECB Titans in the top 3 when they have not even played Team Georgia, Bandits, Sandtown, or the 643 teams?

Baseball: Good question! I've watched enough baseball at this age group to have a pretty good idea how teams will match up, even if they haven't played head-to-head yet. I agree I'm going out on a limb here with the Titans, and its not a clear cut case for sure. The circumstances of when, where, and how they meet up will impact the outcome. Here's my analysis...

I've seen Team GA play 4 games, and EC Titans play 3, some of these games vs. Major level teams. Titans showed more depth and have all fast runners which makes a difference on these larger fields. I saw the Bandits pitching totally shut down Team GA, but the Titans got 5 hits and 4 BB's in 4 innings vs. Kennesaw's #1 and #2 who were nearly as tough. I have only seen the Titans commit 1 error, and no base running mistakes. The Titans line up is strong at the bottom, and they still have 1 player in a cast I have not seen play yet.

Once the Cobb County baseball World comes to grips with the fact that the Titans are the #1 Cobb team, the Titans bandwagon will need another axle. This makes the Titans more likely than Team GA to pick up 1 or 2 more top players by late February, or early March when they square off at the Frost or Slugfest. Cobbers all want to be Astro's come 12U, so gravitate towards the stronger teams in 11U. I think the Titans have overtaken the Scorpions (despite the 4-3 pool game) late last Summer, and this Fall. The others haven't impressed.

Most of the big tourneys are in Cobb County...advantage EC Titans. The Titans, like the Scorpions, (unlike some other EC teams) will leave their EC nests, and that's where Team GA wants to play them.

I cant wait to see Sandtown, Team Georgia, and EC Titans play each other come Spring. I love 6-4-3C, but they need to add offense to hang with these 3 and the Bandits.

Baseball: Trust me when I tell you that Moser should be listened to. He finds these teams and sees their potential much faster than any of us. He is a lot like E.F. Hutton in that when he speaks we should listen. But just so that you know, Papa has heard of these Titans from some other sources that feel that they might be just what we are all looking for to give us the type competition that should make us better.
