Titan, Look outside Cobb (everyone's already talking about them) Look beyond last years Major caliber teams (ditto) Look beyond the ATL metro area (ditto) Remember come Spring, LL teams play all LL, so we wont see them Some of them still don't exist (recall how fast Team GA emerged?)
Teams who have played the most tourneys over the largest geography are best suited to answer this question. The leaders in this category are: Macon's Titans, Savannah's Chain Dirt Dawgs, & Bandits
I'd look for teams in: Augusta, Columbus, Savannah, Athens, Macon/Warner Robbins, Valdosta/Cordele/Tifton, Rome/Cartersville/Dalton, Lagrange/Newnan, & Albany.
My guess list: Chain Dirt Dawgs-#8 Nationally rated in AAA, added 6, tourney-savvy Southern Sluggers-have hung with Nationally known Major opponents Georgia Redbirds - tore up AA in '09, lots of finesse & depth Georgia Scorchers - tore up AA, have power, need more depth Mill Creek Red - 1 of '09's top 2 GGBL teams, all-tourney for '10 Collins Hill - 1 of GGBL's top 2 '09 teams, added a big arm, deep Albany Stixx- I'm guessing they'll be back, maybe not as Stixx SS-Black-#10 Nationally rated AAA team, AAA State runner-up, added 2, imroving rapidly Midway -#1 Nation'y rated AAA team in'09, AAA GA Champ, Majors in '10 Titans (Macon) if their Fall additions return for Spring, 4-0 vs AAA for Fall

I think everyone has been talked about by now. And it's only Fall. |

BMoser is correct again. Bandits play extensively in 3 states, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. Being located in the northwest corner of the state allows us to get to Atlanta, Nashville, Knoxville, and northern Alabama with relative ease. It also benefits the Bandits to see a wider range of teams with different styles and allows us to see a wider range of pitchers.
The teams that Papa would warn you about is the Alabama Giants, TPSA Bandits, and the Alabama Attack. In Tennessee we played against some really good teams such as the Knoxville Stars, Germantown Giants and although we didn't get to play them the West Tennessee Wildcats play the game well. Florida is filled with great teams that play in these venues also and we have had some wars with the Gulf Coast Breeze, the Bay Bombers, Mizuno (now MBA Pride) and others.
But as I have preached for years the best competition to be found day in and day out is right in our own backyard. Coach Troy has this phobia about playing the same place all the time so we try and mix it up and not overplay any one venue and I really feel that this mixture helps us a lot. In my opinion playing at East Cobb is one of the greatest challenges we face during the year especially when Sandtown, 643, Bandits, and all the other great teams all show up at the same time and the key to East Cobb is to take one game at a time because if you look ahead you might not make it to the next level.
The main point I am making is that I feel that there is no place that we play that there are more teams capable of knocking us off than East Cobb and the Atlanta area.
I don't know some of the AA and AAA teams that Moser mentioned but I will tell you that this Georgia Select team that Moser said played AAA is very close to playing with anyone and if there others out there as good as them then that is scary. |

I was the 1st to spot Team GA, and now I'm warning you about another. They wear green, and they just won their 3rd Fall tourney.
In Spring they'll be a handful. Beware! |

For now we will call them the Georgia Green Wave or the Snotter Knockers since Slobber Knockers name is taken. Bring "em on" as Papa's favorite saying is that if you don't beat the best then you ain't through yet.
It's amazing how many talented teams that are out there and we look forward to mixing it up with another good team. Maybe the Slugfest.
I say right now that since we have plenty of time that all of the great 11U teams commit to the Slugfest right now and let's make it the best one ever. |

I think he is referring to Collins Hill. They were very good last year and look to be even better in the Spring. Great coach and good group of players. |

The "Team in Green" will be playing the Forsyth Slugfest. Remember '09's Slugfest Cinderella story?...hint: they wore Purple. |

Hebron is going to be a top 5 GGBL team next year, and along with Buford will be most improved. hmmm, doesn't Buford wear green too?

What does GGBL stand for and what separates it from other programs. I am assuming it is a rec program. Are these teams coming from GGBL all star teams or regular league teams and if they are league teams, do they play all stars at some time during the year. They seem to be getting stronger so are they playing outside their own rules or have they just found a way to be competitive within their rules. Or could it be a little of both. I am glad either way as it makes for more good competition in our area. |

The Cinderella story was Duluth Wildcats. They lost all their pool play games but then went on a run with 4 wins over top teams in bracket play. I can't remember all the good teams they beat, but it was quite a few. |

GGBL is the Greater Gwinnett Baseball League, comprised of the travel teams from each of the Gwinnett County parks. Depending on the age (9 - 14), they have 12 to 20 teams. I have had 3 boys play in the GGBL and the teams range from AA all the way up to low Major. It's made up of teams like Collins Hill, Brookwood, Parkview, Hebron, Norcross, Duluth, Buford, South Gwinnett, Peachtree Ridge. Because they play a 20 game season among themselves plus year-end tournament, these teams don't play nearly as many tournaments as all-tournament teams. However, they often make a little noise when they show up out of the blue. |

How soon we forget...last year the Duluth Wildcats (AA team) made it to the final 4 of the Forsyth Slugfest. They wear purple uni's.
GGBL = Greater Gwinnett Baseball League is a County-wide travel baseball league ages 9U-14U. Players are (mostly) made up of students from a "cluster" of "feeder" Elementary and Middle Schools, that feed into a single High School's student body. Some clusters have 1 Elementary school (Buford), while others have had as many as 6 (Mill Creek). Average school size is 1,000. While High School athletics are size-grouped into A,AA,AAA,AAA,AAAA, to make it fair, GGBL teams are not grouped by size, but instead all compete as equals. Typically, the larger the cluster, the larger the talent pool, and the better the team. GGBL is the largest travel baseball league in Georgia. In 2009, 97 teams competed, with each team playing out of their home clusters park. Many of you have never seen any of these parks because they are tightly controlled, and do not hold travel tourneys very often. Mill Creek hosted 1 tourney last year at their home, Bogan Park, near the Mall of Georgia. Mill Creek-Red beat Midway in the finals.
Norcross hosted GGBL's Fall tourney this past weekend. Sharon Springs-White was the only non-GGBL team to compete.
GGBL is a somewhat "closed society" much like Little League. Teams venture out to play tourneys occasionally, but I'd say 75% of their games are played w/in GGBL. Most teams do 2-3 tourneys/yr.
Since their talent pools are rule-restricted, they cannot openly aggregate talent from beyond their High School's geo zone. This makes it tough for GGBL teams to exceed AA/AAA caliber.
Some of Georgia's most talented players come out of GGBL. 4 of 2009's 14U EC Astro's came from GGBL.

GGBL is Greater Gwinnett baseball league they are a travel team organization playing out of Gwinnett parks-for instance Collins Hill plays out of Collins Hill but will travel to other Gwinnett Parks. Duluth-plays out of Shorty Howell but will travel to other parks. Travel teams-the ggbl teams will also play in tournaments some local and some will travel out of state. The kids are the best out of all kids at the park-you have to try out to make a team-of course some teams are daddy ball. |

GGBL Fall Bash: Great tourney, big fun! The tourney had 8 teams, and the 2 best made it to the finals (Hebron and Collins Hill), yes Hebron, the same Hebron that went 2-18 last year. Gotta love that.
I saw 5 HR's, a new rising star I had not seen before (who I predict will be GGBL's 2010 MVP), Georgia's most prolific hitter doing his thing, and the most spectacular diving catch made by an outfielder in 2009. I also saw the fastest catcher pop time of the year.
The pre-game prayer given by one of the Hebron players over the PA system was special. I also liked hearing the National Anthem.
GGBL has an innocence about it that I enjoy returning to from time to time. Still predominantly small barrel bats, face masks, players shaking hands before and after the championship game, playing each boys favorite song as he came up to bat, the same umps I remember from many years ago, and the same Coaches facing off against each other that have been battling since T-Ball all-stars.
These were all AA/AAA teams, but 1 will break GGBL's glass ceiling come Spring and begin toppling some of Georgia's top travel teams.
Did you see anything I missed? I only saw 4 games Sunday.

We would love to see some of these ggbl teams in Monroe this weekend. OTC Young Guns, Elite Gamers Red, Team GA, and GA Select Red are all playing with several local teams. It would be great to get some of this GGBL talent in the tourney. Go to jbathletics.com for more info. |

I saw a few great pitchers-one from Parkview (Friday night the game they won -they also have an awesome short stop) and two from Collins Hill (one in Championship game had 5 k's in a row the first three were with bases loaded I believe he hit two of the homeruns you were talking about) Hebron has one too-hard to believe from their showing last year. Norcross has one pitcher that impressed me with his mechanics-had a great slide step. Also a pitcher on North Gwinnett he threw hard. Both Hebron and Collins Hill have strong catchers. Did not get to see much of Duluth or Sharon Springs. GGBL should be fun this spring season. |

GGBL Dad: Yep, I know every boy you speak of. You have a good eye.
SS White is new to travel ball, and are learning the ropes. I liked the patience their Coaches showed, and if they keep that up, the boys will respond, and their parents will stay loyal. Coaches get an "atta boy" from me. I want to see them succeed.
Duluth- you missed a couple of monster bombs, and a really close game vs Hebron. They're losing a key player who needs to play up from now on, but I know their Coach has already found some reinforcements.
Last year, I was able to project GGBL's 10U final league standings quite closely, but 11u will be much tougher. I'll take a stab at it after more dust settles. I can share this, Hebron and Buford will be the most improved 11U GGBL teams.

I think this GGBL sounds like Papa'a kind of place. I wish that travel ball as a whole would find a way to make the playing field level for all involved but I doubt this will ever happen and we will all be forced to deal with the way things are. The game should have a little innocence in it and only good things happen when we pray so I think I would like it a lot.
You all know that Papa plays to win and I know some of you feel that the players we picked up from Gwinnett make us the bad guys. But to me it is not any different from the East Cobb teams combining the best of the talent and putting it into smaller clusters making more teams much stronger. Doing this forces teams outside East Cobb to either pick up or slowly fall by the wayside. So with that said and most of you not knowing that bmoser is my head scout I will be up in Gwinnett soon checking out the studs that he is now talking about and I always carry some blank contracts with me to the fields. Beat me to em if you can. |

PaPa, Last years East Cobb Astro's had 4 Gwinnett boys on the roster, and the Bandits have only 2. I think you can add 2 more, by East Cobb rules, and still be exempt from all the whining.
If you added the 2 I have in mind, the Bandits wouldn't have much of a challenge in 11u around here any more though. You'd have to go to Florida every weekend and play the Bombers, MBA Pride, & W. Pine Cobras. Think it over. |

Funny line bmoser, but there was not East Cobb Astros last year at 10u. Do you mean the Tigers?
Has there really been whining from ECB on this forum? I'm not on here all the time like some of you guys are so maybe I missed it. My personal opinion is Bandits have as small of area to "recruit" from as any top team in the nation so nobody should be complaining about picking up the 2 Grip kids. So if there is whining about this, there shouldn't be. I remember a few comments after Cooperstown from the 643 crowd but even that was pretty isolated. I think we all admire the Bandits for what they have done.
Also believe that ECB recruiting is also given too much significance. Yes, ECB has an allure but many top kids stay at their park in the area or move with teams like 643, Holly Springs, Georgia Jackets, etc. If ECB got the best from all of those teams, then that team would give the Bandits a run, but they don't. And even as many good kids that they get are split amongst the 5 (or more) ECB teams. I don't see this changing until 13u. |
