The 13U Sandy Plains Wildcats pulled off a major win at the Fletcher Baseball Championship in South Carolina by beating the Effingham Young Guns in the finals of the loser's bracket 9-5 in 9 innings(this was the Cats 3rd game on Friday). The Guns threw their number one pitcher at the Cats and both teams battled hard late into the night, but the Cats prevailed.
That set up a Saturday morning game against the undefeated Carolina Mets from Puerto Rico. The Wildcats needed to beat the Mets twice to win the championship. The Cats hit the ball well and won 9-6 in the first game.
That set up a winner take-all final game and the Wildcats would not be denied. They came out smoking hot in game 2 with great hitting, pitching, and fielding. The Cats run-ruled the Mets 10-2 in 6 innings!! Both games ended with beautifully executed double plays by the Wildcat's infielders.
Congrats to the Wildcats players, and Coaches Steve Cannon, Stan Lewis and Mike White for a fantastic finish to their season. |
