STATE & NATIONAL RANKINGS UPDATED @ http://www.ustba.org/rankings.htm
Wet, Cold & Windy to Dry, Warm & Sunny
Playing through a constant rain, 25 mph winds and temperatures in the low 40's on Friday night to clear skies, warm sunshine and near 70 temperatures on Sunday, the North Georgia Invitational opened the 2008 USTBA season in Rome Georgia.
The tournament proved to be competitive with 1 game ending in a tie in pool play and 8 games ending in 1 run nail bitters with all three age division opening games being decided by 1 run or less. There was an exciting energy in the air provided by great competition, a World Series Atmosphere and a great showing of support by spectators that keep a positive buzz throughout the tournament for all the teams and fans.
10 & Under Recap
The 10U American Division started out with a 4-4 tie between the Georgia Titans and the Dawgs. The Titans then edged out the the Georgia Spiders by 1 run in runs allowed to advance to the Championship in the American Division and play the undefeated Rome Rattlers. In pool play the Titans lost an exciting game to the Rattlers by a score of 5-4 and would now face-off against the Rattlers in the Championship game. The Rattlers, continuing their winning ways, defeated the Titans in the Championship to finish with a perfect 4-0 record and win The American Division Championship.
11 & Under Recap
The 11U Division started play on a cold, rainy and windy Friday night in an intense game with Team Mizuno edging out the win over Rome Elite 5-4. Three games in the 11U Division were decided by 1 run proving the quality of teams competing.
In the 11U American Division, The # 4 rank Kennesaw Mustangs and the #1 rank Kennesaw Cobras competed to see which team advanced to the Championships. The history of the "Battle At Kennesaw" came back to life with a hard fought game between the two teams with the Cobras winning 5-4, advancing the Cobras to the American Division Championships. The #2 seed Acworth Warriors faced-off against the #3 seed West Georgia Jackets in a game that was much closer than the 8-6 score indicated. The back and forth game could have gone either way with these two quality teams competing. The Jackets came out victorious to set up the American Division Championships between the Kennesaw Cobras and the West Georgia Jackets. Staying in form with the great competition throughout the tournament, the American Division Championship game started out in the same fashion. However, it was apparent the Jackets brought their best game to the Championship and were able to "break the game open" in the middle innings to defeat the Cobras and win the 11U American Division Championship Crown.
The 11U National Division Championships started out with the Paulding Panthers defeating the Mt. Paran Knights and Team Mizuno over the Rome Elite setting up the National Division Championships. The National Championship game was a great tournament finale for the two teams. Both the Panthers and Mizuno played a great game and what an extremely exciting game it was to watch. The Panthers had a few missed opportunities late in the game with Team Mizuno fending off the Panthers and holding on for the win 8-5 and crowned the 11U National Division North Georgia Invitational Champions.
13 & Under Recap
The 13U Division started out the same as the younger age divisions with the Powder Springs Longhorns over the Canton Snappers in a 1 run game 3-2. The American Division play-offs matched up the #2 seed Roswell Hornets against the #3 seed West Cobb Crushers and the #1 seed West Cobb Silverhawks against the #4 seed Cartersville Hurricanes. The Hornets were able to advance to the American Division Championship shutting out the Crushers with an impressive pitching and defensive performance against a quality hitting team 5-0. The Hurricanes brought their best hitting to the play-off game against the Silverhawks and scored 8 runs to advance on to the American Championship against the Hornets. The 13U American Championships matched up two quality teams with the Hornets impressive pitching staff and the great hitting of the Hurricanes scoring 28 runs in the tournament. The Hornets had their "A" game with them both on offense and defense in the Championship defeating the Hurricanes in an "anybody's game" by the score of 5-2.
The 13U National Division Championships started off with the Canton Snappers versus the West Georgia Seminoles. The Snappers brought their best performance of the tournament so far and defeated the Seminoles 6-2 in the first play-off game. The second play-off game matched up the Powder Springs Longhorns against the Seminoles in a "do or die" situation for both teams with the Seminoles pouring it on and winning to advance to the Championship. Everyone knew the 13U National Championship game was going to be a good one with the Snappers facing the Seminoles. The "see-saw" game was up for grabs and went the distance in a well played game by both teams with the final score of Snappers 8, Seminoles 7.

Paul,
We had a great time this past weekend playing in your tournament. Any issue that arose was dealt with swiftly and fairly. There was alot of hard work by your staff getting the fields ready between games. The Championship ceremony was also top notch. Including our bat boy in the festivities was also a nice touch. We're looking forward to playing more of your tournaments this year.

Agree with CoachRB--event was well run and the fields were top notch. The USTBA Director had all the details covered---easy drive for Atlanta teams. Umpires were superb. The ceremony before the finals was a nice touch. |
