I watched a couple AAA teams play the past 2 days and they were 1 out away from getting of a bad inning and just a routine pop up or ground ball that should have been an out extended the inning and sometimes thats all you need. I really hope you guys finish the weekend strong. Great group of kids, parents and coaches.
CB - Awfully kind words, sir. Best of luck to you guys as well. It's fun to see that level of baseball being played by 10 year olds. |

This is a Super NIT by itself! Total shootout on Sunday. Good luck to all. This is some of the best baseball I've seen...and there only 10! Heck today we had several teams boys playing and running around. It sure is nice to see boys from differnet teams and cities getting to know each other thru Baseball. This is a great group of coaches and players! Let's keep it up! |

Gotta agree with Sooner90 here. These kids are ten and some of them will be playing together/against each other through high school so it was good to see the "on the field rivals" just hanging out together, having fun...basically being normal ten year-olds. Should be a great weekend...this is an highly competive field. |

Great baseball today, we went 0-2 but feel like our boys learned so valuable lessons. They learned how to compete each and every innings. Hats of to SP and Buzz both are class act with great players and coaches. Good luck to all on Saturday and Sunday. Also would like to thank Stros and Braves for putting a great tourney. Bearden thanks foru emails and updates |

Beagles,
Hats off to you guys as well. Your team could have quit when you were down 8-0 but that says a lot about you and your staff. You gave us all that we could handle and we were fortunate to win that game.
Btw, next time you give me a Kool Aid packet make sure something is in it. Grape is my favorite flavor. :-)
See you soon...

Anyword if games are going to be played today?
Some great games on Saturday and I saw some moon shots all week by 10yr olds clearing 250 foot fences are kidding me! Stros still rolling just fundamentally sound team gotta be the favorite here. Renagades look good making a run taking down EC Braves but may have used up their pitching to do so?? Braves just can't seem to figure out those boys from Sig Park. Then another matchup with Sig Park and Mayhem Badboys who seems to have Sig Parks number, if I heard right held them to 3 hits earlier in bracket play.
Should be interesting finish but EC Astros to take another State title, if Mother Nature doesn't take it.

What is going on with this tournament? Is it delayed or cancelled? |

Sox,
Get your facts straight, we only had two hits...lol! The 10 and 12 tournaments are cancelled. Our kids had a blast yesterday and were bummed about the tournament being rained out. I am proud of our guys winning three must-win games against three very good teams. We were looking forward to competing today.

Guys
Had to cancel todays play. At 7:00am the fields were very playable, but the heavy rain moved in and they just could hold anymore water and the puddling began to spread. Had some very excited Sliver bracket teams ready to go but the call had to be made.
Thanks to all for the great sportsmanship over the tourney. We have a great(ok, fantastic) group of 10U teams, players, coaches and families. You all helped make this a great tourney in the eyes of the Braves and Astros.
Enjoy your Sunday off.
See you at the fields! |

We did need the rain but i wish it would have waited one more day. Baseball is a funny game. We have hit fairly well (including some right on the button) against the Bad Boys but only have two runs in two games against them. They have made every single play against us. That was the first and hopefully only time we've been shutout. Well coached team...

What a great tournament!!! Great job by all those that worked so hard from both the Braves and Astros, especially doing all that work while playing in the tournament. I would have loved to see it play out on the field. USSSA has awarded 1st place to the Astros based on some formula and second place to the Renegades. There is still a possibility that will actually be settled on the field. That is up to the Astros now. |

I know how you feel Coach. I too desperately wanted to see this tourny played out. But in the eyes of USSSA, there is a "true" champion, the EC Astros.
In a season of astonishing surprises and dramatic shifts and turns in momentum, the Astros have held a steady course. And in their wake is strewn a path of defeated opponents often uttering what has become an all too familiar phrase, "we had them, we could have beat them". But in the end, the Astos are our GA State CHAMPIONS...CONGRATS
But it hasn't been easy I don't think. I've seen a few roster changes, different batting lineups, different defensive alignments and different pitching rotations and throughout all that, I saw what I thought might be some "unsolvable" weaknesses.
But the Astros got better; the Astros got stronger. They were good when they started but now, they're better defensively and stronger offensively. They hit all up and down the lineup.
I think they approach each tournaments better, each game better, each pitch better, and each at bat better than the rest of us. And that's why they are the twice-over state champions.
Thanks Astros, you've been a model of consistency and great 10u baseball.
And thanks to all the 10u squads. I think I've enjoy this year's action more than ever. I love to see the boys improving, getting bigger and stronger.
Good luck to all in post season play.

This is what U-Trip is showing for now. Hopefully they will let the final four teams finish the event so that a true state champion can be crowned.

We would love to have a chance to play it out in a one day tournament with the innings pitched exactly as the would have been. I wouldn't have my top three pitchers but we would still have enough pitching to make a run. |

Great tourney guys. Coach, i agree 100%, let the boys decide this on the field. We were just starting to get rolling. GO RENEGADES! Hats off to East Cobb. I have been to several tourneys at EC (not always happy), but this was very good. Congrats to the teams still standing |

Looks like there is more than just me that wants to settle this on the field. I already asked the Astros to play us for it, but they had many reasons why they couldn't. I don't blame them, I guess - nothing to gain and everything to lose. But there are 4 teams left. At a maximum, it's 5 total games. Why can't we all get together and make it happen without USSSA. It's obvious they don't really care. I'm with you Shuler, leave it as it was as far as pitching goes. Someone commented earlier that we used up all of out pitching to beat the Braves. Not even close. We have/had plenty of pitching left. We have beaten the Astros every time we have played them over the last two seasons and were geared up to do it again. "True State Champions" - I don't think so. Who has a field and can get some umpires? I don't mind splitting that cost four ways. Someone chime in from the Bad Boys. Would you be willing?
ALL these boys played hard all weekend. Especially SP and Mayhem having to work through the loser's bracket. That was brutal. ALL these kids deserve to play this out and have a chance to be crowned the TRUE State Champions. |

I hear what you guys are saying and if you could pull it together and get all the teams there, I'd be the first one coming to watch.
But we all know that just doesn't happen, at least not that I've seen when a tourny is rained out and folks get together and make up the games outside of the sanctioning body. It just doesn't happen!
But it makes for good conversation. |

I would like to know how the Astros were awarded the championship in the first place. It's normally the best seed that gets awarded the crown? |

I'm glad you aaked that question. It looks like they did it by lowest runs allowed.
This also gives me a chance to vent as I often see coaches/players giving up needless runs in "tournament" baseball where "runs allowed" factors into seeding and determining the ultimate tourny winners when all the games can't be played out.
I don't know if that happened this weekend as I didn't see many games, but if unnecessary runs were given up and/or anybody has their best pitchers with innings still on the table, that may have cost you a win. I guess it's important to have a good view of the weather when setting pitching rotations as well!

Plainsmen - what do the USSSA rules say for these situations? Surely it is spelled out, I can't imagine that this is the first time something like this has happened.quote: Originally posted by plainsmen

Something just tells me that no matter what, East Cobb was going to get the title. To save the crap, it should be written before the tourney starts that if it's called due to weather, this certain procedure will be used to determine the champ |

USSSA clearly states out how tournaments are determined if called for weather. The tournament, like it or not, was done just like all the rest of the usssa tourneys throughout the year called by weather and all the rest of the state tourneys this past weekend. Dont agree with it, but its stated in the rules what the tie breakers are, and it goes to last completed round that all unelminated teams completed. Looking at the rules it was done correctly with the "runs allowed" being the tie breaker.
