we all know it's very expensive to go up there but someone told me they were charging over $50 to park each day, could this be true??

I've been several times and never a fee to park or enter.

Unless they have some daily fee for motor homes?

I doubt anything's changed this year over previous, and as DecaturDad points out, the website says free.

For those that are good luck. We are 11 now and looking forword to going next year but we are not part of a park. I guess we are an independant team. My question is simple, if you are not a part of a park that has a certificate (?) how can a team still attend? Do they sell certificates or are you just out of luck? If they do sell them what is the cost? Just wondering before the silly season starts and if we need to be looking where to play next season if "independant teams" cannot attend. Thx

The earlier you register the better your chances. Don't wait until next season. I would register now if your team really wants to go. Nations Baseball also puts on a tournament every year that gives one or two guaranteed births so you need to sign up for that too.

We are an independent team that is heading to Cooperstown. Like BBallnut says, register early. if you register now, you should get in. I don't remember the exact date, but I believe we sent the forms in last July.

You have two avenues.

1. Register NOW. Pay the deposit necessary and then recoup it from your parents when you get your date assigned. The problem that this presents is that you won't know for certain that you'll get a berth before you host tryouts, etc., so you can't promise that your team is definitely going to Cooperstown. You may lose potential players who want that guarantee.

2. Find a team that is not associated with a park who is going this year, and arrange to get their certificate from them. Try and arrange this now so that you can be fairly confident that you'll get a cert. That will at least let you know you'll be in before hosting tryouts.

Either way, as soon as you start collecting money for next season early. The first $1,000 is due when you send in your registration/application. Second installment of $2,000 is due November 1, and final balance (assume about $6,500) is due March 1. Nothing is refundable after November 1.

But in all seriousness, you can and should register today for 2013 and pay the $1,000 (which is refundable up to Nov 1).

Anyone know when you find out if you made the cut to attend if you are an independant team? Is it after the Nov 1 no refund date?

I believe it was October 1, so you'd have a month. I sent paperwork in last June.

You'll know before the Nov 1 date. If you don't get a slot, they refund the $1k deposit. It's only forfeited if you get a slot and don't withdraw before Nov. 1., or don't make your scheduled payments.

I gained entry for a team without a grandfather certificate for the 2010 summer. I received the "congratulations" letter with week assignment in October. The letter was dated 10/5/2009 and postmarked the next day. So expect that you'll get confirmation a few weeks before the second installment is due.

I went back through my files and found that I submitted the application on Sept. 18th.

The teams with grandfather certificates have a deadline of Sept. 15th to register. So the sooner you get your team in the hopper, the better chance you'll have of getting one of the unfilled slots.

Also, remember that a lot of it has to do with the region you're coming from. Most teams in the first 7 weeks are from the south because school ends earlier here. The back half of the tourney is mostly northern teams who start back to school later, so you're really competing with southern teams trying to get in the early half of the tourney.

We were an independant, and we got our forms into Cooperstown late July. We got our first choice of weeks. They key is to get the money from the parents up-front. You can see from many posts, some teams had to back out because they had 3-4 parents bail on the money. Also, don't assume you will fund raise the amount. Expect each parent to pay the full money, and if you get some fund raising money, then kick it back to the families.

Wow. I feel sorry for the team that got this pool draw. These look like some of the strongest teams playing :-)

Actualy, I have no idea. Never heard of any of them. Good luck!

You can google their names and see if they have a website...Then you can maybe sniff their records. I was thinking about changing our home page to read...Looking for our first win of the season in Cooperstown!
