Out of curiosity, why doesn't this follow a standard seeding bracket where #1 seed plays #N seed and #2 seed plays #N-1 seed?
2 main reasons why we chose to do it this way. 1) using seeding based on your performance in your own pool allows you to have a good idea where you stand after you have played your 3rd pool game. You are only concered about the other 3 teams you've played and don't have to wait around to see how the other 44 have done. 2) this way also allows for a large percentage of teams to play 4 different squads in their first 4 games. At this stage of the season we've all played certain teams a number of times and it's nice to see different faces in the opposing dugout for a change. |

Pity for those with that 8:30 saturday night game. Last year it didn't happen until around midnight and then there is that 8:30am game sunday morning. Might as well kiss it gooodbye. |

I was there for every minute of this event last season and there were absolutely no midnight games or games that ended at midnight. We had great weather Fri-Sun last year so your claim is mindless and all who played in it know different.

What time is the championship game cause the bracket is a little confusing? I assume winner of game 29 is the ship but shouldn't that be after both semi final games? Or is winner of game 27 the ship?
Winner of 25 Gm 29: 5/28/12 2pm at: ECB Field 6 Winner of 26 Winner of 29 Gm 31: 5/28/12 2pm at: ECB Field 4 Winner of 30 Winner of 27 Gm 30: 5/28/12 4pm at: ECB Field 6 Winner of 28

Alpharetta Titans. Looks like a certain EC team had to use their ace tonight. This could get interesting right quick! |

Interesting how Braves and Astros have all their games early and will be plenty rested for Sunday morning. Some have 2 games on Saturday and late games. Tough.
Then there is that $7 gate fee for adults and $5 for kids. Really tough. |

Let me help with this: First of all, we get killed no matter what do...when we play, who we play. We know that everyone wants us to lose but that's how it's been several years now. We hosted two tournaments last year and took heat for both. Guess what - We lost both of them! We won 8 of the other 10 tournaments we played in our age group last year so if we are cheating we sure aren't very good at it.
The reason we play during the week has nothing to do with playing one game on Saturday and everything to do with local teams having to play during the week in order to have a 4 game minimum tournament. Please list all of the other tourney's you have played in with 4 game minimums. If we piled on the games on Saturday, then we would have had to use more off location fields and then people would complain about that - it never ends. If we were cheating (which is the inference) you would have seen us play one game on Tuesday night, one on Wed and one on Thursday against a bunch of weaker teams - instead we scheduled a game against one of the 4 teams that have beaten us this year.
The out of state teams are at a disadvantage to ALL of the local teams - not just the Astros or Braves. We do the best we can with the schedule but you likely have never run a 48 team event where many teams want to go to Six flags or the Braves game and they all want to play new teams at specific times, etc. We try to honor ALL of these request so all of the teams could enjoy a great weekend at East Cobb and in the Atlanta area. We also didn't do the Astros any special favors nor we were asked to. I have no idea who is even in their pool nor when they play.
The $7 gate fee is because the 14U Astros are hosting a Super NIT and they charge $7 for that event. The Super NIT we were at last weekend was $10 at the gate. One might ask - why do we need to charge $7 just because a 14U team does? Good question. Here is how it would work after day one if we charged something different. All of the 14U fans would say, I'm here for the 12U tournament because they would realize they would save $2 a person. Then the 14U Astros wouldn't make any money. I hope this helps.
It's funny because the overwhelming majority of fans and coaches love the tournament and thanked us for inviting them. Everyone likes the wood bat part because frankly it's helps the little guys and makes all of these games close. It's a different game with the wood bat and who knows who will win it but it should be excited to watch. Great baseball games last night!

$7 is too high especially when you consider the tournament is over 6 days, if this was 3 days then most could accept it but many teams will have to visit and pay this 4X. |

One more thing I would like to add while I'm worked up....Chris does the scheduling and then checks with me for a final call. He worries about stuff you can't even imagine. I tell him to just put the teams in wherever they fall and he says "no, because I don't want that team that had to play at Mt. Bethel to have to wake up early or because they are driving from Gwinnett or wherever". He factors in all kinds of stuff I would never think of. He is constantly looking out for everyone else. I always tell him to remember the touraments we play in and the game times and set it - most are a joke. Did you see that ridiculous Super NIT tournament schedule last weekend where would have had to play 5 games in one day and they didn't play any pool games on Friday night and didn't start the bracket Sat night. I would love for some of you to be in that thing. You would have lit that guy up. |

Surely some people have no experience or clue on what it takes to put on a tournament like this. Game time request, opponent request, umpire request, field request, and the list goes on and on...this is one of the premier 12U baseball tournaments in the southeast and they do a great job of hosting it. IMO if a team does not like it, don't play in the tournament, I assure you there are plenty of teams on the waiting list that would be happy to be included. Great thing about youth baseball is that there is a level at which everyone can play from Rec to major travel ball. I went to an all star tournament at a local park and saw average competition, average fields, and no gate fees. This tournament has most of the top 12U teams in the southeast, great facilities, and is extremely well run. If the Braves or Astros are fortunate enough to beat out the other 47 teams, let's give the boys credit and not the scheduling director....and no I don't have a player or team in this tournament. |

I don't have a kid in the age group, that's first thing. I think I may be lost and have found my way to the 7/8/9 discussion board b/c that's where most of the first time tourney dwellers are who complain about gate fees and not 12U parents. Most of you guys have been @ it for 3-4 years now. Do I like gate fees? NO! Did I realize a long time ago they were part of the travel bal "deal"? YES! peashooter is right, if you don't like it, there are plenty of teams who would have taken your place. The 12U EC Braves put on a great tourney, that scheduling has got to be a nightmare and for people to complain is petty. Mike is right, the Alabama SNIT was $10 a day, $3 more than what the 14u Stros are charging. The only thing these guys could have done differently is have a weekend pass like most tourneys, but no big deal in my book. Have fun this weekend guys in that great tourney! |

It is hard enough to manage a team let alone a team when you are the administrators of a huge tournament. Hats off to you. |

I took my team up to a tournament in Hickory flat a few weeks ago. Nice field, gras infield, etc. A golden field when I was playing. My kids were like, "what's up with this field!" I tore them up for being so spoiled! |

GA Farmer - please do not say you are from the Alpharetta Titans. That is incorrect. Reading your previous posts you can see that you were in Savannah when the Alpharetta Titans were playing at EC. I find this very disrespectful to my team.

Hold up there whipersnapper. I was born in Alharetta and am a retired independent league umpire living in Soperton, GA and umpiring occasionally in the travel ball circuit. I should have said I am a fan and that was my mistake. I worked the triple crown a few weeks back. I follow your team and many out of old Willis Park and the area such as Alpharetta As and other age groups. I am nothing but positive in all my posts and only speak facts. Since the passing of my wife I love to watch games when I can as there is very little baseball in Soperton. I love watching the kids play and feel alive when I do. I was lucky to be able to catch your game Wed after meeting in Atlanta with a Cattle buyer.
I would appreciate if you would remove your post.

Well for those with that late game tonight, hope it starts on time. Otherwise it will be close to midnight by the time you actually get your player in bed. Sunday morning will be early. And yes Ecball, your player will already be in bed fresh for the next day. As for there being a target on your back, when is there ever in any sport not a desire to beat the team on top. The bar is set and there is a target. It should be expected and a compliment. Why come on here and be upset or surprised that you are one of the ones to beat? Why should baseball be different than any other sport? As for the gate charge, glad you explained it, but I have been to the park when there were different amounts being charged. Do I really care about the 14U Astros? |

DP11,
I have to agree with you and the others on balking at the $7 gate fee. When is this garbage going to end? The 12U gate fee was bunped up just because the 14U fee was $7. Why should the 12U team care of the 14U spectators paid them instead of the 14U gate keepers. That's a 14U issue and now it has become a 12U issue. Do we get anything for the extra $2? Maybe cleaned bathrooms (nope), maybe clean grandstands or padded seats (nope), maybe a bobblehead (nope), I know there is nothing that you can do about the scoreboards, but wow how that cheapens the game.
With 48 teams there would be plenty of room for you to discount the normal $5 fee and still make a killing!
It is easy to judge "team spend" by looking at a good budget. But have you ever thought about how much the parents are individually being nickeled and dimed.
BOS Estimate.
Number of Teams ...... 48 Avg Parents/Team ..... 12 (this is low) Avg Game days/team ... 4 Gate Fee .................. $7 That's ............... $16,128
I do feel that the sponsoring team needs to profit off the coordination of a tournament. But you should collect $100 from each team, pocket the $4800 and be tickled that with little effort and a smart scheduler, you just paid for a good portion of your season.
Cheers! |

Mike, Chris:
We've had a great experience so far and you guys have done a fantastic job for such a big event. Our three pool opponents were as good as it gets and we would not want it any other way. We want to play the best teams we can and you guys have delivered in every tourney of yours that we have played in (which is all of them since 9u)
On or running the biggest tourney of the year, myou have to get you have to get your team ready to compete. |

Don't worry about the naysayers, just keep puttiing on tourneys where teams who want to compete and play the best can play in. AC |

Do I like the $7 fee? No. Is my family paying a small fortune in gate fees? Yes. Last years' BOS had same gate fee, same reason (makes sense) and same caliber of teams. The boys get a bonus this year using wood bats. The Braves do a great job updating scores, and being available. You get your moneys worth with this tourney, IMO. |
