Diablo pitcher threw 5 1/3 a ton of strikes on corners,Diablo defense made lots of plays on hard hit balls,Offense HIT HIT HIT only 2 homeruns in championship so short field didnt factor. I really think main factor is this is new team an all the stuff Scott preaches is starting to sink in to 12 year old minds. Should make for a competitive summer and almost forgot different pitcher than we pitched agianst them on friday I guess we had another Best we just forgot to throw friday[}:) |

"Best" or not, the little guy for the Diablos threw a GEM in the finals. They hit, we didn't. They fielded it clean, we didnt (5 errors). The thing that amazed me is that the Diablos tournament fate hinged heavily upon a coin flip. 50/50! And then to proceed to win the whole thing. Impressive. |

sometimes that's all a team needs is a little luck to make a run, we have all seen parity is more common this year and that's a great thing. Having seen the Diablos early in the season, it's really impressive the strides those young men have made. It's all about improving yr after yr anyway. |

I would agree on the defense, the boys did great. We kept preaching to them in order to win a tournament, they would have to make memorable defensive plays and we did. I also told them before the game, that I have been coaching for 6 years and have never made it to a GOLD final. I said they may never get there again, so make it count. I leveraged our loss to the Braves from the fall where we had them 1-0 before we imploded. I told them at that point they would probably never get another chance to play them and they let fear over come them and we got smoked. I like preaching lost opportunities to help them overcome their fears.
Saturday is a new day and hopefully they don't revert to the old Diablos...12U...hormones...gotta love it! |

Smash, please stop with the backhanded compliments. We were either the 7 or the 8 seed, and flipped to the 7th seed. I never make excuses for my losses nor give out backhanded compliments to other teams. It's baseball, sometimes you get good draws sometimes you don't. Last weekend we were the #1 seed and drew a Hiram team with Nuke Laloosh pitching. He brought the smoke and shut us down. I didn't make excuses to my team or my parents. I flat out told the kids....
This is real baseball now, sometimes you are going to run into a buzz saw pitcher, and you will have to win 1-0, 2-1.... You have to mentally be preparted to grind it out and win a low scoring pitching duel. I didn't complain that they saved their ace for the bracket play and maybe sandbagged the pool play.
It's not about winning but making your kids more prepared for what is to happen when you are long gone. The won't remember which tournaments they won when they are in their 20's...The will remember a coach or an experience for sure! MAKE IT COUNT! |

"Hinged on a coin flip"? SMASH, may be I am ignorant, but what does that mean? No coin flips in bracket play. |

Only 2 homeruns in the championship game and short fields had nothing to do with it? Guess why they call it the Cooperstown warmup. Homerun Derby. |

I think what LiLBig was saying is that there were 3 home runs. We hit 2 250+ feet, they had one at 200', but they didn't factor in the outcome of the game much. Whereas we had many home runs that saved our buts agains the Roswell Team. It was a hitfest that game...everything in play was a hit. It was truly a last man standing game. |

This is what Smash was referring to in regards to coin flip posted on ATPP website: Bracket is set and team games entered on the site. The OP Arrows and Diablos went to a coin flip to determine the 7th & 8th Seed with the Diablos winning the coin flip. They where both 1-1, allowed 10 Runs and had a -1 Run Diff.

Thanks for the clarification M.Bare! The comment that was made seemed to infere that the Diablos success was due to a coin flip versus their play on the field. |

both teams played on the same field so what's the issue? If you all don't like the small fences then you should of played at 643 and on 300ft fences. |

I made a mistake. I thought the coin flip was to determine the 8th and 9th seed which would have put the loser of the flip in the silver. My bad! Diablos go back and re-read my posts. I have done nothing but give you credit where credit is due. You out played us at every facet of the game. Peashooter, as to the backhanded compliments those were in response to your comments about pitching. Bottomline... we underestimated you guys! Your team is noticeably improving. We won't make the same mistake next time. Good luck with the remainder of your season. |

We have played Smash a bunch of times, and every time it has been high class from the coaches and the kids. They have beat us and we have beat them. Smash's kids were wishing us luck in our games this weekend on numerous occasions. Don't read into comments to deeply. |

Uh oh! First rule of coaching: Never under estimate the competition. Man and to even admit for others to see. Hope these two teams get to play again this year. |

didn't get a chance to see the finals but the semifinal between the hornets and diablos was a great game...the diablos went up 9-0 after the second inning and roswell came back--they chipped away and took the lead 10-9 but could not close it out...gotta give it up to peashooter and his boys--they knocked the ball all around the yard and the big boy throws some serious cheese up there...gotta hand it both teams--to my hornets for battling back and not tanking it in--they really showed us something--and to the diablos for hanging in there after losing the big lead and pulling it out...great game.... |
