Looks like a great field of teams. We are doing something a little different this weekend. Good luck to all the teams in this one! |

It looks like a great field of competition! Just out of curiosity how many of these teams will consider batting the max players vs min players? Do you make your decision by pool play vs bracket play? |

Mom22,
We bat every player in every game. I know that some don't agree with the decision but it's what we do.

Hshuler, So when you are in bracket play trying to fight towards the championship game you still bat every player? I'm just asking because I have seen it both ways and have noticed that the team batting less; 99% of the time comes out on top. |

HS....Bravo for batting every player. They are 10 years old and the only way they get better is by facing pitching. It won't be long before 9 is the max, but for now, let the kids learn and play! What's next, stacking the roster with xtra players for a run at the "ship" on Sundays? |

Mom22,
I am committed to developing every player on the team...and that's not a knock on any other coach or their philosophy. It's what we choose to do. I just wouldn't feel right asking a kid who road 400 miles to Orange Beach, AL to sit in an elimination game. The funny thing about baseball is that you never know who is going to come up with the big hit. This team is 24 - 5 since last fall and we have beaten many team that have batted nine players while we batted eleven...and yes that includes 10U Major teams.
Hobnail,
I'm not always popular with a few parents but I'm fine with that. I feel like our team is getting better so we'll see if we can win at the major level batting eleven. Only time will tell.

HS...I agree with that. Other teams that drove 400 miles tried batting 9 and were put out early. You guys have a good team and are fun to watch. |

I have to say wow that is a pretty impressive record. What is the breakdown of your record on Sunday against major teams? Have you won a major tournament this season yet? |

We have not won a tourney yet but I don't think that batting eleven players has been the reason. I'm not sure of the Sunday breakdown against major teams but we are 3-3 against teams that have already qualified for the Elite 32. |

Batting 9 is baseball. The sooner the kids AND parents get used to this the better. Bat all in pool play and put the best 9 in on Sunday. jmo |

Mom22,
I want to make a correction to my last post. At this point we are 2-3 against teams that have qualified for the Elite 32, not 3-3 as I posted last night.
JMO,
I understand your point but we will bat 11.

Not a bad weekend for the Signature Park Titans...A fun team to watch.
Not many teams will EVER be able to say they beat the EC Braves, Lake Lanier CHeads, Gamers RWB, 643 and the EC Astros in ONE weekend.
Of course you didn't beat the Astros this weekend but what a great run against 4 other VERY good teams.
Keep it rolling SPT.
It was good talking with you on Friday Coach. |

Another SOLID performance by the EC Astros getting through a very good field.
When you think of "consistency", you have to think of the Astros!
Very fine job EC Astros. Well done. |

Thanks Will! I enjoyed the conversation as well and appreciate the kind words. It was a fun weekend for us. Hats off to the East Cobb Astros for winning the tournament. |

Great job by all the teams in this tournament. The Silver bracket was loaded as well.
One thing that continues to be a problem is finding good umpires, Watching a 2-1 game on Sat night in the 4th inning and you have an umpire on his cell phone when the game is on should not happen at any level period.
No calls at the end of long day where I think these umps just want to get out there after being on the field all day. We ask these kids to sometimes play 3 and 4 games in a day but expecting these umpires to stay focused and understand the game is as much a challenge. These kids have worked too hard through out the course of tournament to not have an official concentrating their job. Calls are calls and we get that but atleast understand that wheather it's 9am or 9pm stay in the game. |

Cumming BB,
It's unfortunate but I have to agree with you. We have seen consistently bad umpiring this year. Yes, I know that they have a thankless job and some calls are tough but it's been downright awful at times.
We played 6-4-3 yesterday and I can't even describe how bad it was. I felt terrible for our kids and their kids. It was a joke! |

It's a problem when it impacts the outcome of a game. Ball and strikes are one thing that you have to respect. But basic calls like not understanding what a balk looks like should not happen. We played a good team that desereved to win but there are those pivotal moments in game where you would expect an official to undertand the rules and hope that 1 of the 2 would overrule the other. Let's hope it's gets better. |

The umpires at ATPP on Saturday were absolutely terrible. One guy called it from eyeballs to ankles, because he was too lazy to move around. The only thing in his favor is he was consistent for both teams. But I am not exaggerating when I say that was his strike zone. Tough on the kids, particularly kids as good as those. |

Congrats to the East Cobb Astros for the win this weekend. I heard Signature Park played some great ball. But yet another let down for the boys of them not coming out on top. Good luck on the next one maybe it will work out for you at one of these tournaments. |

Agreed! One call can change the outcome of the game. I don't expect the umps to be perfect but just know the basics. |

Sometimes is seems umpires have no idea how hard these kids work. If so, one would think they would work harder. They are usually the only ones on the field getting paid to do their job. I don't have problems with strike zones as long as they are established and consistant. I have more of a problem with not knowing the rules of the association they are umpiring and being too lazy to be in the right place to make the correct call. We have played mostly large tournaments this year, which require many more umpires, and maybe that waters down the level of umpiring, but it seems the events we have played this year have struggled to hire good officiating. It has helped us at times, and hurt us at times, but both should be unacceptable. Greg |

Another atta boy to the EC Astros. They played lock-down defense, and hit as well as any team we have played this year x 2. Greg |
