I've read 2 complaints about 200' fences for 12u. I agree, that is too short but what about the 300' fences @ Heritage Park. That totally changes the game. How about putting up temp. fences around 225-250'. I saw a base hit up the middle turn into a huge inside the park homerun because the center fielder was shading the hitter to pull and the ball rolled all the way to the fence. We lost a handfull of homeruns and 1 team had their left fielder positioned 250' from home plate with my cleanup hitter at the plate. He crushed the ball about 270' which was easily caught. On an age appropriate field the kid would have been positioned in the parking lot and the ball would have been caught in the street. I'll take 200' over 300' anyday for 12u!

Smash,

Regardless of the field size, everyone in each division should have to play on the same size fields the whole tournament. If one field is at 250' then all fields should be at 250'. But to have such great variability in the field size is unacceptable for any tournament, especially the SNIT. Maybe one day USSSA will wise up and move the SNIT to the northside where there are more fields available to accommodate the tournament.

I don't see that happening because they wouldn't make as much money....

The debate over the field size is important. After reading some post to my point I made about the 200' fence it will probably fall on deaf ears to who really needs to hear it, however in my opinion depending on the 300' fence or the 200' feet fence there is complaints for boths size fields. What may benefit one team, may not another. Saying that, 36 teams in the AAA event (I believe). We MUST keep the fields the same. It is a problem and it will continue to be a problem unless the PAYERS of this event (the teams) let the powers to be, know that somethings just need to be addressed. The field size at this level will always be a factor in determining the outcome of game no matter the size. All we want, is the fields to be similiar. NOT 100 FOOT SIMILIAR!
