CB...I certainly understand your sentiments and your logic to some degree.
However, I'm sure you understand that teams get better, peak - some early some later, and in some cases, decline during a season. In other words, its the "What have you done lately" criteria.
My rankings take in the full body of work but its HEAVILY weighted towards the most recent performances.
With that in mind, recently the aforementioned middle of the road ranked team with 4 of 6 tournament wins has had some areas of their game EXPOSED, and if their opponent has the capability, and the teams ranked higher do, they can take full advantage and most often prevail.
You're taking one criteria (who wins the last game of a tourney) and I'm considering several:
1. Recent Tourny wins 2. Tourny wins 3. Defense overall 4. Pitching depth 5. Offense 6. Hitting against hard stuff 7. Hitting against soft stuff 8. Ability and willingness to play small ball 9. Defensive positioning 10. Adjustments during the game 11. Playing attitude shifts in pressure moments 12. Development through out the season peaking at year end
Lastly, I'm then trying to project this onto a national level as to who could possible have success where the best teams take advantage of any and every weakness exposed.
BTW, I don't have a dog in this fight so hopefully, I'm being completely objective.
Good luck everybody.

I think some of the teams on your Top 10 are very happy staying in the middle of the pack and winning 4 out 6 10u Tournaments. I want to give a big congrats to the Elite Gamers and 643 for going up Valdosta and representing GA.

"Wow SW"
For a guy who has no dog in this fight you've put some critical thought into this. Here are some tangable numbers to go by.
The Braves are 5-3 vs the teams you have on your top 10. There is not a team on your top 10 other than the Braves that can make that statment. The Braves are 1 of 2 teams on your Top 10 that are going the Elite 32.
You have to remember in bracket we see every teams # 1 or they go home.
1-2 vs Sig Park 2 losses coming in pool 0-1 vs Elite Starting their #1 vs the ECB #4 Starter and losing 5-4 1-0 vs Astros 1-0 vs 643 1-0 vs Renegades 1-0 vs Buzz
These are real numbers and not something I heard from someone since clearly you have "no dog in this fight and don't actually watch any of these games"
I think a team should be measured on the body work thats done through out a season. The only thing that has been EXPOSED is that our number #4 is not as good as our #1.

Steel-Will and Cumming baseball, Thanks for the props! It all finally came together for us down in Valdosta, and out pitching was outstanding on Sunday. Our lefty shutting out the Barracudas for the last game in pool play, and then our hard throwing righty doing the same in the Championship was amazing to watch. Many kudos to those "arms" you were speaking of.
BTW Cumming, our "#1" that you guys saw only pitched the last inning in the Championship yesterday. I poke in fun.
We have played every top 10 team in Will's list, except the Astros. Looking at the season as a whole, since we are roughly two months into it, I think the Braves and Astros are 1a and 1b. However, I wonder if the Braves can keep up the pace while playing as much as they have. Behind those two are a lump of teams that are evenly matched and evenly talented, SP Titans, 643, Gamers, Home Plate, Renegades. Followed by the Bluejays and OTC. I'll list the Buzz as incomplete at this point.
Either way, I'll take Georgia's 10U Major division and put it up against any other state. We have some outstanding teams in this age group. |

Southside,
This is a very competitive division. All I know is that there aren't any easy ones...lol!
Almost all tournaments boil down to pitching depth and maybe more importantly, the luck of the draw for bracket play. I say the luck of the draw because you can get matched up against a team that may not be as good (overall) but has a very strong #1. So, pitching depth doesn't matter much in a one game elimination scenario. Sometimes the best team doesn't have the best #1 and lose without getting to show the pitching depth that's needed on Sunday.
I have heard people say after tournaments that "I don't see how Team H to Team X...we killed Team X" but in reality Team H got their 1A pitcher and you got to face the other guys who aren't as dominant.
It's what make this so fun because we coaches have to figure out how to put the players in the best position to get it done.

There are a lot of 10U teams that can beat anyone at any given time. The difference between the good and great 10U teams is depth. If two good teams square off with both of their ace's on the mound, then it usually comes down to errors, execution and a break here or there.
I have seen most of the teams play that have been mentioned. It would not surprise me to see any of them defeat any of the other teams or win a tournament. Rankings are only as good as your last tournament, lol. In my opinion GA baseball is the SEC of travel ball. We all want to beat each other, but we sure as heck all pull for each other against out of state teams.
I just wish we could get down to Atlanta more often to play. I hear a lot of you guys are in some type of league. That is awesome. There are not enough teams in North GA to pull that off. |

I don't get on here much as I am I strong advocate that what kids do at 10 years old means absolutely nothing in the big scheme of things. The message boards are fun, however, to see how everyone's minds work and their opinions. Found it funny in a prior post that I threw my "#1" against the Braves when we can legitimately have 5 "#1's" on any given day. Appreciate the kind words and "props", but bottom line is I have a group of 10 year olds that give everything they have in between the lines. We still have a long long way to go to be considered in the same conversation as the Astros, Braves, 6-4-3, Sig Park, etc.
All that being said...I need at least one more player...if not two!!! Come be a part of something special. Email me at elitesports@bellsouth.net if interested. |

CB....I'll admit, I am pleasantly shocked and amazed at the early success that the EC Braves have had. They have done very, very well.
Moreover, you make some very valid points with your record against teams I think are top ten.
But think about it, it's difficult to bump the Brave up over the Astros; they have been the Braves nemesis for a LONG, LONG time.
I really think the Gamers are the best 10u team in Georgia, capable of winning on a grand stage if they were to get there; we'll see. There pitching staff is chalk full of power pitchers with good mechanics.
Power pitcher often is equivalent to less control; however, they're mechanically solid where they consistently thrown strikes. There is the question of where they go after the "Fab-Five".
It's tough to bump the Braves above the SPT. As you indicated, you're 1-2 vs. them and there is a reason and I don't think it's a fluke.
With that said, they only place they could possibly go on my list is the #4 spot where 643 currently resides.
With 643's steady improvement in performance and confidence, several close 1 run losses to the top teams, and recent tourny win, 4 is a well deserved spot for them.
Again, the Braves have played extremely well, but until they can adjust to the off-speed stuff (in Atlanta the change-up at E32, the curve ball) there is no room at the top of my list right now.
BTW, both the Braves and the Astros did very well this past weekend playing up at 11u....again better than I expected.
All I can say is at this point, the EC Braves will have to make me a believer and to do that they'll have to finish REAL strong. |

Steel Will....for the record, my kid isnt a brave. That said, they will have to finish strong to make you a believer? Seriously? They have won 4 out of 6 (or so)tournaments, one of which was a SNIT. What more could you ask for? They are a very good team, as are the Astros....and about 8 other teams already mentioned. |

EliteGamers,
We played you guys at the Backyard Brawl and if you have "a long way to go" I would hate to play you when you get there. :-) You are capable of winning any tournament that you enter...and I know it's exciting for you guys. Keep up the good work!

Big Daddy -
I can't agree with you more.. When you win the Slugfest, Triple Crown Gold and a SNIT you are legit. No more discussion needed... Their are a bunch of great teams in this age group. I am not saying anyone is better than the next one. But give credit where credit is due. Some peaked early, some will peak late and some will just continue to pound folks. Regardless, of who is on the mound these top teams continue to win.. It is halftime for the season. A few teams have slipped back into the also ran pack. Maybe they can get back up front. It should be fun to see how it all plays out. Lot of good teams out there!!!

First of all, Steel-Will's top 10 is very good but I disagree about the placement of some of his teams. I have been watching this age group's talent for 4 years (yes, that's 6U baseball). Any one of his top 10 could beat each other on any given day. Here is my top 9 (the record in parentheses is their record against the other teams in the top 9, based soley on TC and UTrip tourneys)
1. EC Astros (8-2) Quality team in all aspects-enough said. 2. EC Braves (5-3) 4 for 6 tourney wins E-32 qualified 3. Sig Park (4-4) very impressive team- most improved over last year 4. Gamers RWB (3-7)quality program-continues to improve 5. Buzz (2-1) most underrated team will be there at the end in full force 6. Homeplate (1-1)great ATL SNIT 7. ATL BlueJays (1-2) abundance of talent 8. 643 (5-8)strong team 9. Renegades (3-3) still trying to figure it out but great team- a lot of talent
Honorable Mention- OTC (very pesky team), Mayhem Bad Boys (great fall), WFDD, Copperheads, ATL Stars.
I didn't take into account any Fall results but I am pretty sure I am dead on on these records. I also agree w/SNorton, I would put GA 10U travel baseball up vs the Florida teams (not enough depth, very solid 1-4)and vs the nation. Also if anyone sleeps on the Buzz they are sadly mistaken. That team has been great since 6U and will come on very strong in the coming months.
These 14 teams mentioned here basically battle it out every weekend in TC or UTrip and while the Astros and Braves have won all the tourneys this year, there is obviously no way that streak can keep up. A weekend is not a failure if you do not win a tourney. Are the Stros/Braves losing momentum or not as good b/c they don't win this weekend? The answer is no, you simply cannot keep up that pace.
That Boneyard Bash mentioned in another topic, does look like a fun tourney to check out. |

Bob Balker, I agree with your top 9, I would have moved 643 up a few spots but other than that I think you are dead on it |

Good luck to all the Georgia teams in advance in next weekends TN SNIT in Kingsport. Atl Blue Jays, NGa Renegades and just jumping in Sig Park. Hopefully one of these comes away w/their bid for E32.
Question for Holtz ( ie, Shuler) you mentioned in another thread about batting all 11 in bracket, are you now going to bat 12 with your new pickup, noticed it on the UTrip website. Stay true my friend or baseballmom will think less. |

I've seen some really good baseball on the 10U major level this season. Georgia is really strong at the AAA and AA also. My hat is off for all the hard work the parents and coaches put into their teams. I love the fact that these teams can compete at a very competitive level every week here in Georgia. My son is nowhere near the level of some of these kids baseball knowledge wise, but will compete with the best of them athletically (that’s my fault for not recognizing bad coaching early on) and this is what I love about this game. We are getting the experience we need and I see him getting more and more baseball savvy with every practice and every game. Oh, and for the record I’m not bashing my son previous coaches by no means. They meant well. I LOVE THIS GAME!!! |

Ben J,
If your son is athletic, he'll catch up with the right training. Baseball is a skill so good fundamental repitions mean a lot. I didn't play organized baseball until I was 11 but because I was a decent athelete I was able to catch up to and pass a lot of the other guys who weren't as athletic but were more skilled early on. Obviously, this was a long time ago if you've seen me recently. :-)
If he enjoys the game, he will want to work and get better.

Gets tricky now Shuler, huh? Your words of wisdom are loud and clear over the past couple weeks on here about those teams that bat 9 vs you batting 11; stay true to your own philosophy, my friend |

[Thanks Hshuler, he is really starting to enjoy the game now. We were playing on a major team that really should be playing AAA. We are now playing on a AAA team where he is getting a lot of great coaching and it's starting to show in his play. To be honest I never played baseball so I didn't know what to look for exactly.]Originally posted by hshuler
