We seem to be in that in-between time when we're not sure if we're supposed to go to the 11u or 12u forum, so I thought I would start a thread for all the spring 2012 12u teams. This is a big season for all of us, since it's the Cooperstown year. I have found myself going to the Cooperstown site just to look at all of the scores from this past season. I sure hope the experience is as good as everyone says it is, because I will be in for a major letdown if not.

While my boys are in full swing with football, it's hard to take my mind off of next season. Anyone else having the same problem? As for this fall, our team will not play much, but we will likely play 1-2 Sunday-only tournaments. Are there any such tournaments that are particularly good? Looking forward to getting back out on the field for at least a test drive this fall.

All you insiders, what is the scoop on what teams are on the rise? I believe the ECB tryouts are now over, so I assume all of the pieces are falling into place by now for those teams. Can there really be 12-13 ECB teams? I have no issue with it, just don't know how it's possible.

What say ye?

Andy

East Cobb has not been as much of an issue on the major travel level at this age for a few years but of course there have been exceptions with some really good teams showing up during this time frame. It is quite obvious that much talent is there but it is spread so thin with so many teams at the younger ages that no one team seems to stand out like the Astros used to in the past. Another factor is that several programs have stepped up the pace and have handled all the East Cobb teams with regularity. As the East Cobb boys get older the better boys are placed on the better teams and they compete with a lot more gusto. If I am not mistaken the East Cobb program was very successful at the Elite 32 starting at 12U. The 12U team was in the final four, The 13U was in the championship, and the 14U was in the final four so the East Cobb slide is not quite as bad as some are saying. They have the best facilities in the nation, their concession stand is world class, and they are the most well known program of its kind in the nation and as long as they have this draw they will always be successful. But with programs such as 643, Cecil Fielder and others trying hard to get a piece of the pie it appears that all the programs will water themselves down even more as they are only X numbers of good players available to choose from.

It is a lot different at EC than it was even 10 years ago, there were no AA teams and every team was capable of competing with ANYONE in the nation at any time....We play out of EC and I still wish it was that way but it isn't, next year there will be 20 teams at the rate we are going.....Had a coach at the Elite 32 last week make a comment that pretty much any kid with a pulse can find a team with the EC name on it!!

This will be an interesting season, some kids will start pueberty and grow bigger and stronger then others and will make these fields seem small. A couple of questions to look out for:

1) Will pitching dominate at 12U?

2) Who will end up being the top teams in the State?

Answers to these questions that people want to know!!!

The answer is #1 is that pitching will always be important and is always a good commodity for any team to have but moving the mound back 4 feet will make any of them a little less dominant and the good ones will be the ones that learn the difference between being a pitcher and being a thrower.

The answer to #2 is the team that wins the most games against the better competition will be the top team in the State but I can't answer which team that will be until we get started and see what we are all up against.
