Has anyone else witnessed a player perhaps more so a parent claiming or acting out an injury to avoid embarrassment because the player isnt getting on the filed due to better teammates ?
We are watching it again this baseball season ,the player became "injured" about the time it became clear he wouldnt be playing much
The team-mates dont believe it and the team parents dont think the family has had to pay the money as a result
Talk is that this is s common practice for the family @ whatever sport
What to do and how to feel about this as a team parent a player a coach ? |

I haven't experienced that, but... Begs the question... If the player isn't getting on the field, then why is he on the team in the first place?? All players should have a clearly-defined role. |

If it's common practice, it's too bad your coach didn't know about it when he recruited the player to be on the team. If it doesn't affect your son, what is there to "do" about it?
How much did the family "get out" of paying?
Some teams don't let families off the hook or refund money because of injuries.
When I was coaching I had one kid get seriously hurt before he had even played for us. I refunded the money that was the equivalent of April, May and June. They still paid for the off-season facilities and lessons we had. And they participated in those anyway. Some folks said I shouldn't have refunded what I did, but I thought it was only fair. They were grateful.
I had another player get hurt right at the end of school. I wasn't doing the lineups, but he was playing, just not as much as Mom wanted. He missed our last three or four tournaments. Anyway, I don't know if he was hurt, but Mom asked for a refund, but didn't get one. We did have money leftover at the end of the season. That family got their fair share back. I never asked her if he was really hurt or not and never speculated either, though some did. Didn't matter. We just worried about who WAS there.

Honestly, I think there should be some tiered charges as opposed to a flat fee. Thi is just an example
2000 for starters 1500 for utility and backups 1250 for POs 50% refund for injury up to 1/3 of the season, after that sorry. Doctors excuse required.
If a parent pays the $2250 and their kid loses the job to a utility or backup, no one to blame...etc. |
