Now that the first pool schedules are out, what are your thoughts on the way that they are doing the State Tournaments?? In ours there are 4 pools of 4 teams. We play 3 pool games so every team plays every other team. Only the Top 2 progress to the Brackets, the bottom two play a single "consolation" game and head to the house. Since there is only 8 teams in the brackets, there is a quarter final and a semi-final round....and this is where is gets tricky.....the actual 'ship is a Best 2 out of 3 series!!!!
I sure hope everyone has plenty of pitching. If we are still lucky enough to be playing on Sunday afternoon we may be pitching the Team Mom :)
What do you guys think about the new format?

Like the format....should benefit teams who have worked with all kids to learn to pitch (it will be survival mode on saturday and no saving pitching)......seems the original format is being tweaked depending on number of teams entered. |

Imho all state tourneys should be pool play into double elimination. With the format they are using you will have teams not going to championship bracket with 2-1 records in pool and others going with 1-2 record doesn't make since. As far as pitching goes no saving gotta do watever u can just to make championship bracket. With all this bein said we all play by same rules. Should be a lot of fun. In our case I just wish they would start on fri nt to avoid teams havin to play 7 games in 2 days. Good luck to all. |

Actually, biggin, our tournament in HV does start on Friday Night but that is still 8 games in 48 hours. Of course, with the 16 teams in our tourney under the old system we would be seeded by points with no pool play into a double elimination bracket with a potential of playing 9 games so I guess it is about the same. I, personally, love the format...I think having the series at the end is going to lend itself to the truly best team winning. I feel like the best team that has developed the largest number of pitchers is going to win this tournament and, in the end, that is all I can ask for.

Anybody else notice that the teams slated to play at 8:30 Friday night are also required to play at 8:30 the next morning. Is that fair? Is this designed to give an advantage to certain teams with preferable game times? @biggin, I'm with you. I like the winners / losers bracket format better. You can have a bad game and rebound. This format is not good IMHO. |

maybe those teams requested so as to avoid the heat of the day. Might be a smart move. |

Coachtony,we r playin aaa in heritage park and starting on sat. The reason is 2 teams backed out when they were told they would have to play friday. So typical usssa they would rather screw every thing up to get extra money from 2 teams. There is no way you can say best team will win this with this format. Coachtony I wish you the best but if you don't get to championship bracket with 2-1 record and another team gets in at 1-2 that's screwed up. Good luck |

Hey biggin....I really do see your point, but the flip side of what you are saying is that it is possible for the BEST team in the tournament might go 2-1 in pool play knowing that the one loss could eliminate them from competition and I don't think that will happen. I just took a quick look at last years State Tournaments for 10u - 13u in all classifications (A, AA, AAA, Major) and out of the 13 tournaments listed 10 of the Champions won the tournament without losing ANY games....AND....the other 3 only lost the first championship game and had to play the "if" game and eventually won the tournament....which would be handled in this tournament by the series at the end. I, personally, think that this format is going to be fun.
Of course, from a purely personal note, I don't know if I am going to have enough pitching to go the distance...I can only hope that we make it far enough to find out :)
Good luck to you guys, biggin!! I hope you win it in the "if" game and come back telling us how much fun it was!!! ;)

I like the double elimination as well. Although, we are not playing in this one.
