Looks like a great tournament.. 4 game guarentee with the top two in each pool and next 8 best in one bracket and remaining 16 in the other. There are some good pool matchups.
There is also a very good tournament next week in Auburn... Alabama Super Nit..Lots of top teams including Stealth/Dirtbags/Central Fla Gators/Lyn Haven Longhorns. |

Not sure. Anybody know anything about Sparkle City or NC Cleveland Indians? I seriously can't wait. Very cool to play three great teams we've never played before. |

This is what USSSA says about them...
I always take USSSA data with a grain of salt; teams play in so many other tournaments sanctioned by other organizations.

We;ve played the NC Cleveland Indians, you guys should be able to hang with them. Watch out for their 3B, really tall and skinny kid, very good hitter. |

Ditto what Tae said, if I had to recall 5 of the hardest hit balls this season he would account for 2 of them!! |

ok, i've seen the pool games posted for a while now but how is the bracket setting up? If 32 teams advance then will each team need to win 6 games to claim this dubious title? We could see kids who dont pitch much going in the championship game because i dont think any of these teams are 8-9 deep in pitching. |

Yes, there are batting cages. No fields to practice on, only the one your playing on before the game (without cleats, no cleats till game time). Hope that helps and good luck!

Bracket schedules and field times will be out by Monday at the latest. We've had a tough week with a lot going on and it's fairly complicated to run a 48 team, 4 game guarantee out of 6 fields at 3 seperate locations. The schedules will be posted to our site. There are 12+ cages at ECB, and Adcock and Mt. Bethel have cages as well but we don't have extra fields to practice on. Mt Bethel will be free to get in and the other parks will be collecting money at the gate. I'm not sure what the entrance fee will be as I don't set this.
We had a couple of teams drop out at the last minute but have replaced them with good teams in their spots. We tried to make the brackets as fair as possible with at least 1 AAA team in each bracket and tried to create out of state match ups. While doing all of this, we had to schedule teams with conflicts and find teams that could play at 3PM on Friday so they have to be in the same pools. I'm sure everyone will feel they have the toughest draw, game times etc. We had teams complain because they played at 5PM and other complained that they played at 9PM. Only 8 teams out of 48 are going to get the 7PM game slot on Friday night at ECB so if you didn't get this slot you weren't alone. Others complained about what field they were on...The list goes on and on. Good times! No chance of making 48 teams happy but we are doing our best. Bottom line - there will be a lot of great teams in this event and you have to win 7 of 8 or 8 of 8 against top major teams so it will be a battle, thus the name. Just enjoy the competition and enjoy the fact that there will 600 kids running around from about 8 to 10 states. You are going to have to beat 4 or 5 top ranked teams in a row to win it. And for those that sent Chris emails complaining about pools, at least it wasn't a pool like the Super NIT with the Megastars, Braves, Grays, Wills Park, Team Michigan and FL Thrashers. Yah, that was fair for everyone!!! And, you aren't going home if you don't play well in pool play. You could still play 4 or 5 more games and win it.
Here is how it will work: The top 2 teams from each of the 12 pools will go to the Gold bracket along with top 8 (wild cards) seeds from the remaining 24 teams to form a 32 team bracket so you have to win 5 in a row after having to go 2-1 or better in pool play to get in. 8 of the #1 seeds will play a wild card in the first round. The other 4 #1 seeds will play a #2 seed and we will go from there. All bracket games in the Gold side will be played at ECB. The quarters and semi's will be on the big fields at 250 with high fences. Unfortunately, the Finals will be on Field 7 which is 200 with 20 foot wall because the 13's start a tourney on Monday and need the bigger fields. Nothing I could do or I would have!
Silver bracket: The first round of 8 games in the silver bracket will be played at Adcock and Mt. Bethel on Sunday and then the quarters, semi's and finals will be at ECB on Monday.
I hope that all teams, coaches and fans represent themselves well because this was a lot of work. We did all of this for the kids so they could compete on a national level without having to spend thousands at Disney. Somebody on this site asked me to put together a big tourney so here it is. We went to the Elite 32 last year and this field will match up with that field any day of the week. Good luck to all. Again, there will only be one winner and 47 second place teams so just enjoy it. I know from speaking with some out of state teams, they are coming in with big plans so I would recommend dialing back your expectations and have a good time.
Thanks,
Mike |

Mike, you can guarantee great weather, though, right? Low to mid 80's and sunny with a slight breeze, thank you... |

Mike, having worked on a 25 team tourney for this weekend, I can only imagine that you've had twice the fun I've had! No way to make 48 teams happy. Thanks for bringing this tournament to our back door! And, oh yeah, take it easy on us next Thursday!

TD is a very thankless job...I tip my hat off to anyone who even tries to pull off a tournament of this magnitude.

Yankeedad - Florida Rays & DQ Crushers. Both very good teams. Saw FLA Rays play down in J'ville, and hear good things about the DQ Crushers (who unfortunately have a couple of their boys with injuries). Bama Buzz is taking the place of DQ, and they look tough!
Also - thx for your note Mike. You, Chris and the others really did a good job on the pools, and got the schedules out early - especially during a difficult time. Much appreciated.
I CAN'T WAIT for next week - gonna be a GREAT opportunity to see some very good baseball teams and I'm sure the later bracket games are gonna be awesome.
On behalf of the teams here in ATL - THANKS for pulling this event together in our backyard. |

Sounds like a really good list of teams and must have been a real headache to organize. Very impressive job and I'm sure it has been MANY months in the making. Not looking to throw stones but I always find it curious when events such as these start out and are sold one way and turn out very different. Event was originally limited to 32 teams begining on Thursday with all games at the ECB complex. Then expanded to the final total of 48 teams with all games still at ECB. Checks are mailed and money is in the bank and then the schedule comes out. Games start on Wednesday and are at 3 different parks. Mt Bethel is no better (and may be worse) than a rec field and Adcock is a very nice but its not on the same level as playing at ECB. And games starting on Wednesday and as early as 3 PM on Friday! Really! Who is getting these kids to the game? They are only 11 and 12 years old. Moms and Dads still need to drive them. Last time I checked travel ball is pretty expensive and jobs are hard to come by. Sorry boss man, I'm taking off at noon today on a holiday weekend in order to get my kid to a baseball game. You understand.

Catch3dad, this tourney has advertised from early on that they will expand and use multiple fields. |

Most tourneys have good intentions but things change that are out of our control. First, we lost Pope high school so we had to pick up Adcock. Pope is being completely rebuilt and we didn't know this back in Dec. The coaches knew what was going on as we communicated with them so there was no bait and switch. We think that this sets up to be a great event for all. We did a deal with Adcock where they are providing the fields so they will get the gate. In essence, we didn't financially benefit at all by expanding the tournament. We did it for the kids.
Then we lost one field at ecb on Thursday night because of another tournament so some of these things are out of our control. Because we lost one field on Thursday we had to play a few games with local teams on Wed. The 3pm games on Fri are all out of state teams that were already coming early so that is a non issue. In fact, the only reason we did 3pm games was because teams said they would be here early. By doing this, it allowed for more scheduling flexibility which benefited everyone as we are able to start the first game at 9am and play the last one at 7pm on Sat. and Sun. I think most liked that! We had a start time at the super nit of 10pm to put this in perspective. Again, most people wanted a major event with a lot of out of state teams so here it is. It won't please everyone but hopefully the majority will like it and if the kids have fun that will work for me. We had more than 60 teams that paid a deposit or were on a waiting list. Why not let as many play as possible? Most teams will play every game at ecb and the other teams will play a majority of their games at ecb if they continue to advance. We also gave teams a 4 game min. which I believe is more like a World Series. We haven't seen a tournament all year with a four game min which willl explain why we need more fields and more days. The entire gold bracket and the quarters, semi's and finals in the Silver will be played out of ecb so I think we are treating teams right. |

I'm still a little worked up about that post so let me provide more information. First of all, this was never going to be a 4 game min with all games played ECB. That is impossible and wasn't sold that way. You are correct that we are starting it a little earlier than planned but that was so we could play more games at ECB and wouldn't have to use Mt. Bethel as much. Now, the inference that we are expanding to make money is completely false. We don't collect at Mt. Bethel and we don't get money from Adcock so we didn't benefit at all from having a larger event. It just created more work for us :) Now, you could say, ECB benefited by taking more entry fees, however, they HIGHLY recommended that I shut it down at 32 or 40 teams so they were not interested in making more money. I only expanded because I wanted to let everyone in that I could as I was shooting for a March Madness field of 64 but that was impossible.
Once we lost Pope, I could have very easily told the last 8 teams that paid that I was sending their money back and good luck finding another tourney on Mem. day. Instead, we looked around at all the local parks and options to see how we could maintain this event even if it meant more work and less money. In the end, we ended up with a very nice park in Adcock and I'm thankful they worked with us so we didn't have to send checks back to teams.
I think the more information we can share the better people will understand how this works. Again, I just hope everyone has a great time and enjoys the match-ups. |

Get into the top 32 and you're at ECB. With big tourney's like this EVERYONE needs to be flexible.
Hat's off to ecball for putting together a tournament that is getting national attention. Especially in light of the tragedy his team recently suffered.
Screw the boss, everyone has a little vacation time, most bosses understand leaving early before a holiday weekend. If not, someone can get your kid there.
Money in the bank?? My god, if you don't get it by now you shouldn't be doing the major travel ball thing.
Complaining is a major pet peeve of mine |

Many Many Kudos to 11UFAN'S post...stop your complaining and just deal...if at this point you don't understand or don't like the logistical issues of travel ball then don't play...can't wait to see all these different teams--should be a blast--good luck with parking!!!! |
