...after that first game I thought it was a wrap or was HP just playing Possum?

I wish I could say we were playing possum but we just flat out got beat. The Astro's are HUGE, and everyone knows their reputation and I think our boys may have been a little (a lot) intimidated. On Saturday the Astro's showed up fired up and jumped all over them early and HP never had a chance. When you get down 16-0 against a team like that it's lights out. We might have to give an assist on the re-match to the Parkview Panthers though. When our boys heard that Parkview played with the Astro's to the last out I think it showed them that they are beatable and were their mood changed completely. I think we're all very proud that after such a humbling defeat on Saturday they hung in there and fought back on Sunday. Overall there was a lot of great baseball played this weekend. Almost every game on Sunday was one out or one hit from a different outcome and any of the 6 teams there were capable of winning. A strong showing by all.

Smoke,

16-3 and 3-2. Astros played the same kids did HP play same kids?

From what I hear game could have had a different outcome with 1 more hit or 1 different call.

LOL.....

Not sure I get it. Some days you are the bug, some days you are the windshield. Sunday the Astros were the bug.

I will give you my recap. Two good teams. HP scored 3 runs on the Astros in each game. HP had a solid approach with 2 strikes and it paid off with some timely hitting.

I think that Sunday provided some good lessons for the 'stros, and they will be better because of those lessons.

Not sure that 3 runs will do the trick too often, but it sure did Sunday. Hats off to HP. Great game. The parents and team looked thrilled to have won. Can't wait for the next one. Hope they bring their music.

I will give you my recap, HP won when it counted, which is on Sunday. The Astros looked thrilled when they won the pool play game on Saturday. HP was one hit away from expanding their lead which they had from the 1st inning until the game ended. HP's starting pitching set the tone when he struck out the 1st 5 batters with about 15 pitches. For a team that hasnt played in 2 weeks HP started out a little slow on Saturday. I can tell you this our boys were not intimated by the Astros they wanted to play the Astros just as bad as the Astros wanted to play them. The only bad call i can remember was when a kid left early on a tag (Astros). It was so obvious another coach from another team even said it wasnt' even close. Other than that I personally think these 2 teams match up very well. HP held the Astros to 2 runs while using 3 different pitchers, and I to can promise, that didnt' do the trick on Sunday and probably won't do it in the future. But as I said earlier the 2 teams match up very well, and I expect we will see each other again. Congrats to both teams for making it to the Championship.

We stayed around for part of the game. 2 great teams! They should both be proud to make it to the final game. Astros have some big boys no doubt about that. HP seems to have very disciplined/skilled hitters and smart base running. The Astros looked to have had one of their top tier pitchers on the mound but not their defensive starters behind him. I bet we'll be seeing these 2 teams meet up again before the season ends.

I don't have a dog in this hunt ,but I noticed one thing...Looking back over this thread, there were no posts from the Chilidog nation after the first game! I checked on Saturday expecting some updates and was surprised to find none! Just a casual observation.

Sorry for the late update, but taking a weekend off meant lots of work backed up and not getting home till the wee hours Monday. Plus by time I got home after that hour plus drive, unpack the truck(coolers, chairs, pop-up, food, trash, changes on hot/cold weather clothes, bat bags, bucket of balls,) I crawled in the sack. Now back to the update.

Congrats to the Chilidogs in a great Sunday at the ballpark! Those Dogs took out my "Rabbit" in the semis. They really played good defense and kept their head in all the games Sunday. Honesly, Thought the Astros with their size and heavy bats were unstoppable. WRONG. Chilidogs always find a way to win when it counts. To all the teams that played Sunday, errors were the deciding factor in almost every game. Pride -vs- Astros, base running error at third with one out cost them. Parkview on Saturday several during the game kept them without the "W". But thats baseball and why we play the game. Good teams don't make those mistakes when it counts.
Looks like the Dogs have to take out the 45's for a undisputed title.
Again, Congrats to the Chilidog nation and the Southside for a good showing.

If that wasn't their defensive staters I would like to see who is! The outfield at The Chuck is HUGE. Probably as big or bigger than most MLB parks and the Astro's CF covered it like Andruw Jones of 10 years ago. I saw a hit in the right center gap that had been a triple or HR all weekend and he made a sliding catch on it. Also, their SS was as good as any I've seen this year. As far as no one posting on Saturday I don't think many people post about tournaments on Saturdays. Usually most comments come Sunday night or Monday morning after everything has played out.

Agreed...except...good teams "can and do" make mistakes when it counts. MLB does it. Baseball is not a PERFECT GAME...although we all wish it was on some outcomes. HP and Astros are 2 great ball teams and fun to watch 2 skilled teams compete. Size does matter...but not always.

FOR THE RECORD, "NO ONE"......AND I MEAN "NO ONE" HAS GIVEN THE ASTROS MORE RESPECT THAN I HAVE. THE CHILIDOGS HAVE ALWAYS RECOGNIZED THE ASTROS AS "THE MIGHTY DRAGON" AND AS THE BEST IN GEORGIA.... UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE...AND THE KIDS TO BEAT IN GA. YES, IT IS A BIG DEAL FOR US. FOR THE CHILIDOG NATION THIS WAS AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN WINNING THE "ATL SUPER NIT". THAT SHOULD BE A COMPLIMENT TO THE ASTRO-NATION. WE HAVE WATCHED TALENTED KIDS LEAVE THE SOUTHSIDE TO GO TO ECB LONG ENOUGH. THIS VICTORY JUST PROVES THAT GOOD BASEBALL DOES EXIST OUTSIDE OF ECB. WE KNOW OUR KIDS ARE HALF THE SIZE, HAVE HALF THE SPEED, AND HAVE HALF THE RESOURCES TO PICK FROM THAN THE ASTROS. THATS WHAT MAKES THE PRIZE SO GREAT. THE BOTTOM LINE IS: AND THIS WILL NOT SIT WELL WITH "THE CHOSEN ONES"... BUT THE ASTROS & CHILIDOGS HAVE COMPETED IN 2 TOURNAMENTS TOGETHER THIS SEASON, "THE ATL SUPER NIT" AND "THE CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS" AND THE CHILIDOGS HAVE WON THE TITLE BOTH TIMES AND ARE CURRENTLY RATED #1 BY USSSA IN GEORGIA WITH THE ASTROS #2. THIS MAY CHANGE AFTER THE NEXT TOURNAMENT BUT FOR NOW THE TITLE IS AROUND OUR WAIST AT HOME ON THE SOUTHSIDE. OUR CHILIDOGS WILL DEFEND IT AND REPRESENT GEORGIA AND THE SOUTHSIDE PROUDLY.

@ Seminole Tony, we already have a win against the 45's. We completed that feat about a month ago in Triple Crown. We were defeated by the ECB Braves in the ship. So one could have an argument that the Braves have the mark on their back as they beat HP and Astros in back to back weeks in the championship game. Nonetheless, all the ECB can beat you if you don't bring your game.

I have watched HP play twice now, don't let SMOKE blow smoke up your you know what. Those HP kids are aren't the smallest of kids and from top to bottom they may be the fasted team in the 13u major. The EC Braves would love to defend their belt again against HP and the Stros.

If you put it that way the braves are 2-0 against the astros and home plate in title games. Wouldn't you say they are the best until otherwise proven smoke

Yes, you got us at a good time and we haven't forgotten. And yes, it is hard to disagree with you. "The Chilidog Nation" respects your team: well-balanced, gritty, & well coached, but you have been targeted and must be erased. good luck in alabama, we will be watching...

Bottom line the Braves are the current heavyweight champs due to the most recent matchups; and untill the stros or dogs due something to prove otherwise they are just #1 contenders. I don't understand the wrong time you are talking about smoke maybe you mean you didn't have the arms left to match up.

While they do have a couple of impressive wins this year and are definitely are among the better teams in the state, that's a pretty bold statement to declare yourself heavyweight champs with only 1 USSSA tournament and 1 TC tournament win so far. Win this weekend then statements like that might hold some weight.

Braves are a well coached scrappy team....yes they beat HP by one run in a TC championship game...no excuses but they didnt see HP's top pitchers at the time for a bunch of reasons...again no excuses and didnt see them play the Astros. But HP and Astros over all body of work speaks for itself. Braves can beat anybody on any given day but win a SNIT or some more tourneys then we'll see.....
