Fact: Nats record was 1-8-1 (obviously we were playing poorly) when Roswell Hornets cancelled a weekend double header with us and jumped in AAA SNIT. We had no place to play and were not scheduled to play in SNIT. Andy immediately called TD director and they said we could play in last AA spot (#32)in SNIT. No spots available in AAA. We had a magical weekend and went 7-0. We thank coach John Ryan @ Roswell Hornets every day for cancelling that DH!
Guilty as charged, but I'm surprised this is still being discussed. The SNIT opened up two 11U AAA spots on the morning of 3/3. From the e-mail:
Coaches:
It's official, we have secured one final venue for the Atlanta Super NIT allowing us to re-open several previously SOLD OUT divisions! This is great news for all the teams that have called and emailed the State Office trying to figure out a way to get in this year's event.
USSSA.com has already been updated to reflect the below openings. All new entries are offered on a "First Come - First Served" basis with online payment. When these spots are filled there will be no more expansion! This is your LAST CHANCE!!! In addition, entries will close this Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:59:59 PM.
12U AA - 2 New Openings! 11U AAA - 2 New Openings! 11U AA - 4 New Openings! 10U AA - 4 New Openings! 9U AA - 4 New Openings!
At 8:22 that morning (3/3) I took one of the two AAA slots and immediately let Andy know we needed to reschedule our 3/19 doubleheader, and that there was still an available AAA slot. He tried to get it, it was already taken by Powder Springs. With 64 AA and AAA teams in the SNIT that left his team with very few options to play locally that weekend. Given the way his team had performed up to that point he opted to play in the AA portion of SNIT rather than not play at all. Everyone acknowledges the Nats were struggling heading into the SNIT, and most reasonable folks would say they were not playing at AAA level at that juncture. Besides, there are a few other teams who played in the AA level at SNIT who can compete with most AAA teams on any given day. It was a turning point for the Nats and they put together a great 7-0 run. Instead of harping on them the emphasis should be that they used it as turning point.
The Nats always play hard, always play with class, and have great fans. They are welcome on my field any day of the week (except, as it turned out, on Saturday, March 19, 2011!). John Ryan |
