Yeah > I think the Ga teams were some of those I consider the top teams. Great Job ! There are better teams from Florida that in my opinion that are better than those represented. I was surprised to see the NF team go 1-5 but I guess considering the teams they faced it only makes sense. |

How was this tournament?? I heard there might have been a little bit of drama occur but I'm not sure which age group?
Moccs, just from what I have seen Florida baseball starts from about Orlando down. Sure there are good teams from North Florida but I think the really great teams are from the southern half of the state. |

From what I remember a couple of very good teams from Fla pulled out of the tournament. Would have been a very interesting tournament. Can anyone fill us in on the tournament?

I agree Spartan.. Most are below orlando. I was hoping to see some better competition for our Ga boys since it was billed as the top teams in Ga/Fla. Didnt hear about the drama. Who pulled out? |

I had just heard there was a little drama with two teams getting mouthy!! I'm not sure who pulled out, I'm not sure the teams in it were top 4 from their states but there is A TON of parity at this age group, especially from Florida as we all know there are 2-3 teams from Fla who have to mentioned as top 5 that weren't in this tourney. I would like to hear from someone who was present about how this tourney shook out......(and the drama of course!!) |

I believe the Florida Rays and the Miami Brawlers were in this tournament up until two weeks ago. Both teams are very good. |

Those two teams are the kind of teams I would expect to see in a "Battle of the Best" type tourney...No disrespect to the BlueClaws but they just aren't on the same level. |

I heard the teams were picked based on input from a few coaches, tough to pick the top 4 teams without even playing a game for this one. I guess one could question the pick of one team that has struggled this season but many also picked them as a top 5 teams heading into this season.
The other picks are fine and they showed well, nice concept but would have been nice if the top Florida teams would of played. |

By looking at the results the Ga teams very well except the Stars who had the Bomberz their first game of the tournament. Hard to recover from that. IMHO the teams were among the best in Ga.

I would tend to disagree with whos your daddy !! I think the Stealth, EC Braves and Grays are easily three of the top teams in Ga. A few more could be added including Rays/Longhorns/Titans . The Florids Rays and Miami Brawlers would have made things real interesting.. |

I'm sure the Stars will recover from their slow start. I know Coach Gates and just because the Stars had an "off" tournament doesn't mean they didn't represent the state of Georgia well. Wins aren't the only way to represent an organization. |

I guess no one on this forum went to this tournament cause no one has said anything about any of the games. Go figure.

imho, I like the stars team but "off" tournament? To be considered a top team, you need to have wins vs some of the top teams because its the only reference point everyone has. representing an organiziation well is nice and all but this isnt a good will tour. I didnt have an issue with the 4 teams picked since most picked them as the preseason top 4 but at this point what does it matter |

I agree 100% with you daddy, the EC Rays or Shiloh Titans could of easily stepped in for us and represented the state with class as both of those teams have it. I was told that teams were chosen not solely based on who they had beaten last year, the fall or this year, but it had a lot to do with “how” they beat teams and/or “how” they lost to teams, not actually the W or L, and also the general makeup of the team before any of us even played a game. So we were honored to go down there and represent GA with class and I believe we did that. In regards to our team and how we’re doing, the last several weeks we have struggled, no doubt, but here is the key, I’ve got 12 kids that it doesn’t matter if we’re winning or losing they still say yes sir and no sir. I’ve got 12 kids that had a blast for hours and hours at the hotel in the pool while ALL the parents had Kool-Aid and wings on the patio. The late night talks with assistant coaches, dad’s and mom’s about stuff other than baseball, those are priceless. The wins, they’ll come, no worries there, the character these young men are learning from being in a team slump will go far beyond a plastic trophy in life. Those same 12 kids that went 1-3 over the weekend just had one of their best practices of the year tonight, that’s what it’s all about to me! Anybody can win, I want to see how you react when you lose. As far as the tournament, it had the potential to be a very exciting opportunity for the 8 teams involved. I won’t speak for Mike, D'Wayne or Derrick but it was presented to us as a true Georgia vs Florida tournament, even as far as we wouldn’t have to play a GA team until the finals. I know for a fact that Tak worked extremely hard on this tournament but obviously some things happened with all the FL teams that was out of his control. I’ll put it to you like this, We didn’t know if it was going to even take place on Thursday(I had some families leaving Thursday). It did work out but it now had us GA teams eliminating one another at some point during pool play and unfortunately for us, we had Stealth first thing Saturday morning. The fields were decent, had grass infields which was nice and they had short fences for us 11’s. The officiating in our games was just ok, however, the 10u game between Team MVP and GA Yarddogs was brutal, those two coaches went nuts and both had every right to on several occasions, about 3-4 of the worst calls I have ever witnessed. To their credit, neither got tossed. And I’ll leave you with this in regards to “the best” teams in Georgia that several are referring to, there is one, and it is Stealth and then there is everybody else who can beat anybody else on any given day. Those kids aren’t going to lose on any given day, you will have to be perfect in all aspects of the game to stay with them for 5-6 innings, to my knowledge they haven’t lost to a 11u GA team this year, that means “the best”, not somebody’s opinion! Steve -
Thanks for the post - always appreciate the perspective that you and Morris bring to the forum! I think we're all interested to find out the xtra ingredients you guys added to the kool-aid
See y'all this weekend. Will be fun to hear the crack of the ball against wood bats (and some woodbats cracking too!). |

Coach,
Here is what Bubba posted about this subject, not sure where representing the state well comes into play, beside how do judge that? These teams were picked because they were thought to have been to top 4 at the time and not because they handled a loss well or were great sports, are they correct as of now? Probably not but it's not that far off.
