There is a lot of talk of teams having bats shaved and rolled at SNIT. I am not going to mention teams by name but if this is true we need to have bats tested on site if Team wants to protest. Also if true, team should be ashamed of theirselves this s cheating and someone could get hurt!

What does it take to test a bat? i was not there, so i have no idea what team you are talking about. (And I don't need to know.)

They make machines that test them. I honestly haven't heard anyone ever talking about it or accusing anyone of it. I do know this, they can take every one of our teams bats and test them. We have nothing to hide.

The way my team hit the ball I don't think we have nothin to worry about. Iam sure there are a few dads out there doin it but would be kinda hard to keep a whole team quiet. I've heard rumors but not fair to try and name teams iam assumin you are talkin about 11 year old team.last I heard not illegal to roll a bat is it.

I can't even begin to comprehend the mindset some people must have in order to justify doing something like that. Crazy.

I have heard of compression machines that can test bats. I personally did not see any bats that I would question at the parks we were at. Just think if true, kids safety should be guarded.

When 11 and 12 year kids are hitting baseballs over 250ft and some over 300ft, obviously there is a problem. We need to go back to wood bats. That would solve a lot of the problem. It would also bring back to an era of baseball that I desperately miss. I know some might not understand that statement but I bet the older folks will.

A few years ago when this age group was 9 my nephew played up. One of the teams from Florida who ended up winning the SNIT hit about 400 HRs and was hitting balls through the IF so hard players couldn't even see the ball. Probably lucky nobody was injured!! Hardest hitting team I have EVER seen!! I didn't put much thought into it, but when were were having two of our slowpitch bats "altered"(it is legal in our league!) the guy who did it told us he cut(shaved) 8 bats for a team in Fla. I ended up getting it out of him, but I was shocked a coach would do this. Mine pitches, and it is scary enough facing 170lb boys at 46-50ft without having the bats shaved to make them SUPER HOT! Rolling doesn't really make a drastic difference like shaving the bat does, we routinely get 30+ feet usually more from our softball bats. The big difference is how much hotter the ball gets through the IF, you can literally hit it right at people and they have MUCH less time to react. If teams are shaving bats someone will get hurt, I'm against all the new bat rules 100% but I think this might be a reason why people have been getting injured with just no testing going on. Having said that compression testers are not always accurate, I have personally seen shaved bats pass and completely stock bats with 1000 cuts on em fail BIG TIME!! Easton started stapling the end caps in so if they were removed it would be easy to detect, but that was quickly figured out.

WOW!!!!! I never thought this topic would make it here. I believe some Bat Shaving is going on and has been for several years out here. I totally agree with Spartan, when I was playing competitive softball we would not dream of playing with stock equipmemt. Heck, we could get bats a little hotter directly from the manufacturer. You are only cheating yourself in this case. You need to know whether the swing machanics are producing the power or is it the bat? I have been shocked at all the quarter swing homeruns I've seen the last few years. I hope and pray NO kid is ever hurt because a DAD wanted his SON to have an unfair advantage as an 11 year old.

There will be some dad absolutely KILL another boys dad if his son gets hurt on the mound and the bat has been altered. I can't believe nobody has gotten injured from a comebacker and the TD hasn't taken bats. In USSSA mens softball if you hit a homerun of drive a ball through a "safety zone" up the middle the bat is compression tested right then and there. Like I said I think compression testers are a joke for the most part. People on here will vouch for me that I put a TON of stock in winning games but I think anybody that would shave a bat for use by an 11U kid who can't control where the ball is going to go is an IDIOT.....In softball you can direct the ball with pinpoint accuracy, in baseball you can steer the ball but with nowhere near the accuracy as when the ball is coming in at 7MPH. Hopefully one person can get the lifetime ban and set an example for the rest of the dads who just has to see his son hit bombs

I AGREE WITH WHAT IS BEING POSTED. I REMEMBER WHEN THE ALTERED BATS MADE IT INTO SOFTBALL AND HAVE NOW TRICKLED DOWN TO GIRLS FASTPITCH AND NOW BOYS BASEBALL. IT IS A SAD DAY WHEN YOU CAN GO ONLINE AND FIND SHAVED BATS FOR SALE FOR KIDS. THE DAYS WHEN HARD WORK AND PRACTICE HAVE GIVEN WAY TO SPENDING A FEW EXTRA DOLLARS FOR JOHNNY TO HALF SWING AND HIT ONE 250 FEET. I KNOW KIDS ARE BIGGER AND STRONGER BUT I ALSO KNOW WHEN A BALL IS COMING OFF A BAT WAY TOO QUICK FOR THE SWING THAT WAS MADE. BUT AS IN ALL SPORTS YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE PEOPLE TO BREAK THE RULES. I JUST HOPE PEOPLE TAKE THE TIME TO REALIZE IT ONLY TAKES ONE LINE DRIVE TO POSSIBLY INJURE A CHILD OUT THERE. I DON'T USUALLY POST ON SITES LIKE THIS BUT I THINK THIS IS SOMETHING WORTH TALKING ABOUT.

When my son was playing 9U, he would always hit the ball up. I though he was "shooting for the fence". I later found out that he was afraid of hitting someone. (He did hit a pitcher in the face during an 8U coach pitch game. I think that stuck.) Now he hits hard line drives and I do worry about him hurting someone. And no, we don't modify his bat.

I agree with the wood bats. Lets get to real baseball! My son has played in wood bat tournaments in the past, and some of the 'big hitters' aren't such big hitters with wood bats.
