Unfortunately this happens. Usually not a knee jerk reaction but a reaction from weeks of feeling unappreciated. There are lots of situations that lead up to these things.
Team brings in a hired gun and sits a regular player
Coach talks about open opportunities but actions dictate otherwise
Favoring players for no obvious reason
Sitting a player for an error but not consistent with the rest of the team.
Generally good communication can keep this from happening, but there are always those you will never please as well. IE; little Johnny isn’t the short stop so were moving on.....
I’ve heard of several shopping mid season due to these kinds of actions.

If you have an issue with the team or coach, you should talk to them after the tournament is over. It does no good to do so during a game, now are the parents being objective about their kids playing ability?

It is very hard for some parents to take the blinders off. A lot of parents can't handle their son being a role player, mine has been on teams where he is used that way and it is tough. But like I have said before it is hard to put one boy in front of the top 9 because the parents are complaining. My nephew knows he HAS to be in the top 9 if he wants to play!! It is usually that simple, but some parents just can't see "little precious" booting balls every time one comes his way, misjudging every fly ball that comes to them, or getting only one hit in pool play where the coach is letting everyone bat.

All coaches start in rec ball and most never seem to outgrow the belief that infielders are better than outfielders. If a coach doesn't understand how important the outfield is, he doesn't know baseball.

First let me say I do not agree with pulling a kid out of a dugout. This does nothing to teach them commitment and team work. I think first step is talking to the coach and understanding the reasoning behind the decision and working to correct. However, there are also way to many instances where coaches make decisions not based on perfromance and is based on pleaseing sets of parents becasue they don't want to deal with them. Communication and leadership is the key. The coach must be able to make decisions, and support thier decisions with data. They must hold true to keeping an open mind as if players understand they can work toward something successfuly most will, but if they feel there is no hope becasue the coach has his favorites, they will not. Most parents at this level have been around a long time and keep sats themselves. So use the data to support your case. IT will also help you identify if in fact you as a coach are leaning toward players rather than using data to make decisions. example if a parent complains and you say will little johnny is batting 150 that's why he's not batting this game or batting last, you better be sure that little bobby isn't batting 120 and batting the 1 hole. The head coach must ensure they have control of the team at all times, any perception of influence will result in a long painful season for all. At the end of the day the coaches job is development and game speed reps is part of that training at this level. Not to fill thier trophy case or anyone elses.
