Saw a game this weekend in which a pitcher threw 100 pitches, is this not TOO many at 12u.

Seems like a lot of pitches for 12U. What tourney was that? Was it in the GA World Series put on by the Jackets?

Yes it was in the GWS. I hope it was worth the win at 12u. I think the max should be about 60-70.

The GWS rule was 6 innings max by outs (not appearances) for the tournament which usually doesn't equate to over 100 pitches. If a pitcher is throwing more than that in 6 innings, then they likely are giving up runs and usually don't stay in the game long enough to hit their inning limit. BTW - The #1 request we got was to increase the number of innings or have no limit at all and leave it up to the coaches.

At the end-of-the-day, it's up to your coaches to make the right call for your kid. Parents should pay close attention to how much their kids arms are being used at this age and address it with the coaching staff if it's a problem. It may make them slightly less popular with the coaches, but it's your kid's arm. And it's 12u baseball.

I guess Tball and clutch are on the same team?

The Bandits have been on a 32 pitch limit although there has been a couple of them that have hit 40. As most know we have had several arm injuries over the past couple of years and have been extra cautious starting out this season but Papa worries that their arms might not be getting stronger without working them out. We also have several great pitchers that gives us the luxury of not overworking any one of them.

This is a generic discussion, please do not get into discussions of too many pitches by a specific team or pitcher.

Thanks

Coach Mark not sure if clutch and I are on the same team or not. Just wanted guys opinion on throwing 100 pitches in one game.
I will say the format for the tournament was great, you play 6 innings with no time limit, wish more tourn. games could go longer. I think we would see alot of different outcomes.

It just makes good sense to limit the number of competitive pitches. I like what Papa says with respect to <40(especially as hard as the Bandits throw).

Travel ball teams, at this age, rarley carry the "pitcher only" position and therefore players that pitch also play other positions which requires them to throw.

Players, up until their growth plate closes ~13, are very susceptible to growth plate injuries in their lower elbow (UCL) if they throw too much or with pooor mechanics.
