Our team enjoys playing on a large field much more than on a smaller field. We believe our OF gets much more work and it rewards line drive hitters with doubles and triples versus just noisy singles. I wish USSSA would start making sure 8U CP tournaments were played on larger fields. We are playing our last CP tournament at the Super NIT and we will have fun regardless of the field size, but will be dissapointed if the field is not at least 180ft. I believe playing on larger fields helps players develop more skills as opposed to playing on small fields where essentially lazy fly balls become home runs. I am eager to hear what other coaches and parents think about the debate regarding field size.

Most of the fields we play on are 200ft and if it does hit a gap its a Homerun. As far as developing our outfielders we go to the football field and do fly ball drills. Most of our kids work at home so its not really that big a deal. Size of field doesn't matter to much. CP teams get a lot of work in the fields in every game, outfield gets tons of work...
