There should be some very competitive games thru the weekend. Most of these teams have been battling each other over the last couple years in close games. The Wills Park teams + Midway have always been tight games.
You really could have any of 4-5 teams battling in the 'ship here between Wills, Midway, A's. The Diamond Dawgs have been getting good press, but didn't get a chance to catch any of their games last weekend. Don't sleep on Roswell either - Coach Ryan has a bunch of scrappy kids that will battle.
Hopefully the A's will post scores on their team website.

Gwinnett,
Which Wills Park team are picking? Don't overlook the Wills Park Warriors, they might be the stronger team out of that Park.
So, what happens to seeds 7-10?? Do they only play pool games and then are done? |

Tough draw for the Titans. We played them Tuesday night, and they looked really good, but they've got 3 tough games before they get to Sunday. Hear the A's have looked really good out of the gate, and they will be able to conserve some pitching with their schedule, so I like their chances of getting to the finals. The Dawgs are a good team. Played Sandy Plains as well as anyone. But, I think Midway is the best team in the tournament. Have not heard a thing about them this year, so I am projecting a bit. My predictions:
Semis
Dawgs vs. Mavericks
A's vs. Titans
Finals
Mavericks vs. A's
Mavericks win
Don't sleep on the Hornets or Warriors! Could easily see one or both of those teams crash the party!
P.S. I like doing this stuff, so no offense intended. Just need to hone my skills for March Madness, since it's right around the corner! Ha! |

Huge advantage to being a 1 or 2 seed. Automatic berth in the semi's. Some teams have brutal pool play schedule, while some have a cake walk. Why not take the top 8? I'm not a fan of the format.
It should make for some good pool play games.

| ecbpappi, oops - I'll take the Warriors on your info. Thats interesting it looks like if your 7-10 seed you don't advance to Sunday play. Unless I miss read it. If thats true you better be playing to win. I guess it will make it more challenging. |

| was really surprised to see how this tournament was set up...the director gave himself a pass through to sunday not really having to pitch anyone to assure himself of a spot....The Mavericks, WP teams, Diamond Dawgs and Hornets are playing in a Round Robin--assuring that at least two teams can't make it...Mavericks have toughest draw on paper--they're out if they lose tonight to a tough WP Titans club... |

A's are the tournament hosts, you wouldn't expect them to play the toughest pool games. Part of the territory, have to work through it and play on. |

Doing a little scouting for next weekend. Dawgs won by 2 runs in the ship, gotta give them credit, 5-0 for the weekend against some tough teams. Seem solid all the way through. 7 shots over the fence at my last count and may have missed one or two.
Impressed with titans and warriors, both played well. Some good players and pitchers. Roswell also was a scrappy team.
Midway had a disappointing weekend. Little surprised at an incident with players being allowed to chant disrespectful comments directly at the pitcher for another team. The opposing coach even asked the head coach to stop but to no avail. I do not coach but do not feel that behavior should ever be allowed. Team chanting is fine but not when directed at another 11 to player. Just my opinion.

We had Midway down 4-2 in top of 5th, but ran out of pitching. Maybe we'll hold on next time. Enjoyed tournament, it was good for our boys to play against some better competition since we are a low AAA team. I won't name the team that I saw this weekend, but it was amazing that their pitcher threw 60% curve balls. That's asinine for a coach to let an 11yr old do that. Just my opinion.

| banker, it might be a cutter the kid is throwing. My son throws a cutter with some thumb push and it looks just like a curve ball, its wicked. It will move 1 foot then drop. He's mastered it. Wherever we play I hear the same commit--it's a curve ball. It took about a year to master. He doesn't need a change up because this is his off speed pitch. |

Congrats to the Diamond Dawgs. Very solid team, didn't make a single fielding mistake against us. Enjoyed competing against them. Ditto the Gainesville Braves. We didn't know much about either team heading in to the tournament but we came out with a ton of respect for both. Well done.
