There were 15 teams in the 12u tournament last year. I'm sure Astros will be back to defend their title. Who else is planning on coming?
1. Astros? 2. ? 3.? 4.? |

Cobb County is out of school all week (21 - 25). It seems like a great week to go skiing. How many families will be traveling? |

I wish there wasn't any tournaments until the middle of March! Wayyyy to cold in the early season. In GA the Super NIT is played way to early IMO, should be the first week of April. |

This would be a perfect time for us to all go play somewhere in N Fl or South GA. Triple Crown or USSSA should organize some quality events there. Would be a great idea to play first couple of tourneys in the south end of the state or Fl.
We played a tourney this weekend where we got off the fields after the championship game at 11:30 pm on Sunday night and it was below 45 degrees from 7:30 PM on..... The cold is not so bad as long as it is dry and the boys have the proper gear. |

Has anyone noticed that the Forsyth County Slugfest is no longer a USSSA tournament? It will be a Triple Crown tournament this year, but it appears that it will be run by someone other than Tony von D.
IF the tournament draws the same number of teams that it did last year, your team better be very deep in pitching to reach the finals with the pitching rules that Triple Crown enforces.
To respond to the original thread post, the East Cobb Extreme will be at the TC Spring Frost. I'm not so sure we will play in the Slugfest unless they can guarantee us that we will see different umpiring crews than last year.

I agree, a huge event like that should be held at least in april if not May. Its either cold, raining, or both. But there is always 1 Good weekend in last Feb. or March that always seems to get the blood flowing for a good tournament. The trick is being patient and wait for the weekend forcast. |

8. Pitching Rules (Innings per Tournament): 9s = 6 10s = 6 11s = 6 12s = 6 13s = 7 14s = 7 15s = 8 16s = 8 18s = 8 *Scorecards must be signed by both team managers to eliminate inning validation problems. (Managers, please help with this process.) *One additional inning per pitcher for every game played after 4 games. *No limit on the number of appearances. *One pitch will be considered an inning pitched. *Eight warm-ups to start, five thereafter. *Mound: 14s and younger may throw on flat surfaces depending on field availability. *If pitching rules are violated and the infraction is detected, the situation will be reviewed and consequences may include elimination of team from the event and suspension for the following year, coach and/or player ejection.
Would these be ther rules. All I could find regarding internet search. Don't see much difference.. USSSA is 8 innings correct, with no more than 7 in a day and if you start the 4th inning of any day you can't pitch the next day. Is USSSA also cannot pitch on 3 consecutive days? Main difference seems to me no fractional innings. Burn a pitch and you burned an inning? Since you add an inning after 4 games, you get 8 innings in both tournament orgs? |

To Ron and all of the other teams:
THE 2011 FORSYTH COUNTY SLUGFEST WILL BE A TRIPLE CROWN EVENT!
BILL MOATS, TELLY HELMS, WAYNE MADDOX, AND THE PEOPLE OF FORSYTH COUNTY HAVE JOINED FORCES WITH TRIPLE CROWN SPORTS!
Yes Tony VonDolteren and his staff will be on site to assist in one of the premier events in the southeast. Bill Moats along with Tony, Donny, and the rest of the Triple Crown Staff will be on site there for the entire event. You will be able to recognize the on site individual and not have to worry about the age tournament director as in the past. I know it was a real concern and conflict of interest to have that coach try to run the site and also have his team playing in the event. This is why there will be a triple crown individual present at each site from the first pitch to the last.
HERE IS HOW THE UMPIRE ISSUES WILL BE ADDRESSED FOR THE 2011 EVENT:
We will utilize 3 different umpire organizations for this huge event! No one umpire organization in the country could handle 196 teams and we will not expect it to happen moving into the 2011 event.
1. EAST METRO UMPIRE ASSOCIATION = LEVI MILLER (UIC) 2. NATIONAL UMPIRES ASSOCIATION = JIM STROS (UIC) 3. ASO OFFICIALS = TONY SALGALDO (UIC)
Each umpire organization will be assigned just 2 parks for the entire weekend (anywhere from 10 to 15 fields tops). This will ensure that we will be putting a better quality product on the field and we can hold each and every umpire association accountable! This way the UIC can rotate guys and make sure that teams are getting a fair shake in each and every game. I know that umpires are never perfect and do not get all of the calls right. However they should bring to the table: professionalism (including the way they dress and carry themselves), knowledge of the rules, and be approachable when there is a call a coach may not understand (leave the "egos" at the door!).
When Bill and I discussed these "issues", he had never realized the solutions to all of your concerns. I told him that he has one of the "PREMIER" events not only in the state of Georgia, but in the whole country. Bill told me that he wants to do "whatever it takes" to get this event going back in the right direction and grow it year after year! This event goes to such a great cause and there are numerous people who put in quite a bit of volunteer work to make it happen. Hopefully with making these adjustments and listening to your concerns, we can make this great event even better! Come out and play this can't miss event! It will be a blast and give you an idea of where your team stands against some of the best competition in the south!
Thank you again! If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 904-230-3993 or e-mail me at triplecrownsports@litestream.net

Tony, Thanks for the response. Glad to hear that you'll be part of it because, to be honest, we like to play Triple Crown tournaments because of the way you run them.
LeftyBat, the total innings are essentially the same but you are correct about the fractional innings. The largest difference is that a single pitch thrown in an inning in TC constitutes a full inning; whereas, USSSA counts by # of outs recorded. It may sound insignificant, but the difference can be huge over the course of a tournament because it keeps you from bringing in a pitcher just to face one or two batters because he will be charged with an entire inning.

thanks for asking, no the lil fella just can't find a team. I guess we'll just have to wait and play some rec this Spring. I'm sure he would be thrilled to catch your son for ya as long as your boy doesn't throw hard. He gets a little intimidated by the big boys who throw hard.
Lets give'em about another 2 weeks to rest their arms and we can meet at the complex on hwy74 sometime.
