walk off...This tournament has gone off flawlessly. The website is updated and there are OP coaches every where to give you an update. All you gotta do is ask.

Frustratingly slow to update the website.......
All teams are are showing some rust and fighting the cold. Hurricanes beat someone by 25 runs. OP Sharks are number 1 seed (surprise, surprise. No one saw THAT one coming!) Astros player hit a grandslam today to break a 3-3 tie. That was fun to watch.........

Don't know what "Walk off" is talking about as I've found all the updates at the park and on-line with no issues. OP is running a very good tournament.

The communication to the coaches up to and during the tournament has been excellent.

Hats off to the OP Staff for a smooth tournament, despite the bone-chilling weather at times. Here are my observations from the 3 days of action:

OP Sharks - As predicted, they were clearly the class of the tournament, outscoring their opponents something like 39-4. Excellent pitching and defense combined with consistent hitting is what makes this a Major team. Tough to find any weakness.

SP Explosion - Seeing this team for the first time. Very impressive group of kids that can definitely compete at AAA level.

OP Raptors - Impressive showing for this first year team. A good comeback win over Eastside in bracket play today.

Eastside / Kennesaw - Not an expert, but they appear to be about the same as last year, returning most of the same kids that I remember. Should compete in AAA level in the Spring.

Astros - After reading all the hype on these message boards, finally got to see them in action. They are a decent team and held their own against the Explosion and Angels before being over matched against the Scorpions. They could be competitive in AAA in the Spring.

Scorpions - The only team to test OP Sharks all tournament, losing 4-3 on Friday night. Very well coached team with sound defense and good pitching depth. Two tough 4-3 losses in pool play kept them out of the Gold bracket.

Angels - Another first year team that plays good defense and has decent pitching. They might surprise some folks this Spring.

I wish I could have grabbed a couple of those $0.50 bratwurst they were clearing out at the end....
Yeah, those were some good brats!

As an Xplosion parent, I hope our team decides to mark this one on the calendar every year. We definitely had a good time at the tournament, despite having to play in the cold rainy weather on Friday night, and the frost on Sunday morning. It was well run with probably the best field maintenance I've seen in any tournament. Fields were raked, drug and re-chalked after every game.
There were a lot of quality teams there and most of the games were very competitive, although it seemed that a lot of teams with maybe the exception of the Sharks, were in 'fall mode' with lack of practice time, missing players, and rusty defenses (us included). I did see a lot of good pitching and definitely some good hitting all around.

The teams that the Xplosion played were: West Cobb White Sox, ECB Astros, Cherokee Reds, OP Raptors and the OP Sharks. All were quality teams in their own right, especially the Sharks as always, and should be competitive in their respective divisions. I didn't really get a good look at many of the other teams, but from what everyone is saying, there should be plenty of good teams in AAA next year.

Although our defense kind of fell apart in the championship game vs the Sharks, we still hit well and I was very proud of the boys and how they played in the tournament overall. We're all excited about the team's potential, and we're really looking forward to the spring.

The posts referencing the Astros-Scorpions games have been deleted. This got way beyond ugly and should not have been allowed to start.

Thank you Stan for deleting those. It was ridiculous what people on both sides were writing.
As an Astros parent I just want to say we had a great time at the OP tourney, thought they did a fine job running the event, enjoyed the competition from all the teams we played and we look forward to our winter break and then working to be a better team. We just want to have fun and play some ball!

I second Hillio's comment about the field preparation in between games. It was outstanding!! The ground crew was always there waiting for the game to finish so that they could get to work. Never had to hunt them down. I loved the improv manual scoreboard on the 9u field.

I also wanted to compliment the Scorpions and Angels for a super exciting championship game. Tons of great defensive plays on both sides, consistent pitching, some timely hitting, and extra innings as a bonus! The fans on both sides were electric but always maintained great sportsmanship.

A special shout out to the Cobb Angels coaching staff. I dont know where you guys came from, but the instruction and encouragement provided to your kids during the game was refreshing. I could swear I even heard you encourage the umps to call a balk on your own pitcher and told them you would work on it in practice. If I had a 10u kid in west cobb, he could play for you guys any day!!
