Looks like this will be another competitive tournament with some good teams. Both Oregon Park teams, Astros, Strikers, Kennesaw and others. I am surprised that this has not filled up with 2 spots remaining. |

The familiar top teams would be OP Sharks, ECB Astros, and Kennesaw Generals but I'm sure there will be a surprise or two. |

Well, you have one Major team in the Sharks and then a bunch of AAA and AA teams. So, unless the Sharks roster is drastically different from last year, I expect everyone else is playing for 2nd place. However, strange things do happen in bracket play sometimes..... :-) |

Astros may compete and generals will probably be in the running. Several of these aaa teams have a pitcher or two good enough to upset some teams. |

Astros are not fielding their regular team. Too many are involved with football playoffs and they are making changes to the roster........... |

I think every team is making changes to their roster and they have kids on the team that are playing football, but if you sign up for a tournament you take the win/loss as a team. |

Add/delete, add/delete, add/delete.... Seems old fashioned, but why not consider not making any changes, and actually developing a player?? |

Roster changes? Does that mean they are already cutting players and looking for new players? I know this is a new team but, is it not premature to start cutting players? |

Go and Mets, There are TONS of reasons for roster changes. Better to do them now then in the spring. Not every roster change is a coach firing and hiring kids because he does not want to develop what he has. Parents who have not paid thier portion and it looks like they won't. Should the coach just accept that and keep the kid so he doesn't add/delete, add/delete?? Does it sound fair to the 9 kids who are paying their portion and 2 or 3 are getting a free ride?? Kids who had great tryouts but have since shown their "regular" form and it's not up to even AA level. How many times has a kid just had a great day on tryout day but after several practices/scrimmages you find out he is in WAY over his head? That kid will see very little playing time and A TON of people on here have said travel is for good kids to play against better kids. This kid just does not fit. He will not enjoy the travel experience. He should be on a rec team or a AA team so he will love the game and play more. The coach is doing that type of kid a great favor by having him go to another team. Kids have left other teams and are "on the market" and the roster goes from 10 to 12 to 11 back to 12, etc. Every team has kids join, not like the team or coaches, leave and seek a better fit elsewhere. I guess no other coach should take an interest in that kid so the add/delete, add/delete doesn't happen. I don't know what the situation is on the Astros causing roster changes but I know from over 10 years of travel experience that the above are all very valid reasons as to why there are so many roster changes on teams in the fall. It's also why I say to compare/rank teams in the fall is a total waste of time.
And to Crazy-Who said anything about whether the Astos should take the win/lose as a team? All I said was the Astros are not fielding the team they will field in the spring. Even the team they would field a week after this tournament when football is over. I am looking forward to watching this tourney and seeing how much fun each team has and how they have progressed from September but I have to keep in mind that these may or may not be their real teams. Nothing weird about fall roster changes at all.

Interesting. A kid has a "good" try-out at ECB, and chooses to go with the Astros (it's reciprocal). But if it turns out that the kid doesn't live up to expectations, the coach does that family a "favor" by bringing in somebody new (and having a 10 year old boy face the reality that he is without a team, or a late add for somebody with whom they wouldn't have chosen earlier in the process)? Should the coach accept late payments? Was this not discussed early on, and if not, shouldn't the coach bear some responsibility? If you are a coach, please elaborate on these "other" teams that do this. I know that most in NW Georgia do not. Certainly not Kennesaw or 643. Certainly not the ECB Longhorns, or Yankees, or even Mudcats. Wills Park? Nope. Oregon Park Sharks? Nope.
If you're a parent, as you claim to know much but not all, then I'd worry about karma! Your son may be the best in your eyes, but it sounds as if you could be associating him with the wrong type of coach. I'm failing to see where there is any commitment from either the coaches or even other parents (for allowing that nonsense). |

Go, You have posted several times in a contradictory manner against the Astros. We just want to play ball and have fun. Don't you have someone else to pester? Our roster issues are for us to work on, not for others to care about. And I know those other teams you listed VERY well and most they have done exactly what Ex said at one time or another. I don't know what your affiliation with baseball is, Go, but I would find it hard to think you are or have been a travel coach if you don;t know this stuffs happens. |

I have been reading this blog for years and have never commented or even registered but I just can't let gohornets get away with it anymore. You dislike EC so much you just look for EC postings and argue the opposite view. Don't worry excoach12, several of us out here know what you are trying to say and you are correct. Ignore gohornets. |

I guess you have very little coaching experience Go if you have never run across a situation where a kid is either really on or really off his game on tryout day. And you need to remove those rose colored glasses if you think any of the teams you listed have never gotten rid of a kid they didn't want. They may not have asked the kid to leave, and I have no idea if the Astros asked anyone to leave or not, but they certainly made it known by reducing playing time, sending them to the bottom of the batting order, etc. Especially the Longhorns! That great team has had ALOT of changes. I guarantee you they do not keep kids that are not performing up to snuff. As far as the money, we had a family on our team once that promised to pay but just couldn't right now, could we just give them a break for one month and they would get caught up next month, maybe take a little now and let me have a little time, etc, and they never paid and stuck around for two months before they were asked to bring their account current or move on. So how was our coach a bad guy for trying to help them out??
As far as who I am-I never claimed to be a current coach or parent. Check out the name- EXcoach12. I coached travel ball teams for over 10 years. None were with EC. My son is now 22 and stopped playing after college. I spend my free time watching all levels of baseball and find it interesting to talk to coaches and parents. Thats where I hear about things.
Please try to stop being so anti-EC, especially anti-Astros, and argumentative all the time. They just want to play ball and have fun.

I completely agree with Excoach. Changes happen for all sorts of reasons. The money issue comes up alot as some folks don't pay so they can "try out" a team for free and then decide if they want to stay. Thats why teams charge a downpayment fee to lock in a family and prevent this. I have seen kids have great tryouts but can't sustain that level even over a tournament. You are correct, a kid can have a great tryout, be offered a spot and not work out. |

This discussion about the player - team commitment is a slippery slope at best. On one hand, there is the team that makes a commitment to a player only to cut him after the Fall, thus leaving the player scrambling to find another team. On the other hand is the player who makes a commitment to a team and then leaves for "greener pastures" after the Fall, thus leaving the team short-handed. Both of these scenarios are equivalent in my book and I don't particularly care for either one. |

Any Saturday results? South Paulding 7 Astros 4 from Friday. Lot of good hitters on the Astros. A couple of long home runs by the Xplosion was the difference. |

This tournament is failing miserably in regards to posting results and updates. No hard copies posted at the park, and no updates on the website. |
