Plenty of talk regarding who the top teams are next spring, the easiest way to determine how strong a team is by judging their record vs. other major teams in GA and other states. If your 1-9 vs other majors then your better off playing AAA.
I borrowed this from bmoser in the 12's and it makes a lot of sense. I would also add another slot for playing 12U tournaments:
Where to hang around to become a top tier Major class Georgia team?
Slugfest Atlanta SNIT Then, pick a couple of these: AL SNIT SC SNIT NC SNIT N.FL SNIT TN SNIT
Then, one of these: Cooperstown (earlier weeks) Elite 32
Then, if your over .500 vs. other Major teams, your team needs to be included in any top 10 end-of-season rankings next July.

Mr.Moser give you an idea Insider??? But seriously I agree 100% with this statement, I really hope we get to do some NITs in our surrounding states. The boys get to see some different teams and the parents/coaches get more options in planning an end of the year world series. |

These same discussions go on in every other age group so it's not just the 11's. Now, for 98% of the teams out there this doesn't matter to them, it only matters to about 3-4 teams in the state. So I posted this for those 10-15 teams who's fans like to stake claim to being a top team. Just because you beat a team who beat one of the top guys once in a pool game doesn't cut it.

ecbinsider,
I am so glad that you have brought this topic up because it seems in our age group unlike any other we have a misunderstanding of what constitutes a "TOP" major team. I dont understand how a team can earn a top 5 ranking or their fans can consider a team top 5 when they have played mostly AA and AAA competition the last 2 years. I would go as far to question teams that have 1 win per season against a top 5 team or 1 top tournament (NITs, Major States, Invitationals) showing per year having top rankings. Major basbeball teams play 3 tournaments a month, 60 - 80 games a year, different cities, states and styles and better pitching and hitting every game ...... Winning consistantly under those circumstances should EARN a ranking..... Not a once in a lifetime lucky upset of a major team.....
Notice ecbinsider that a few posters have not participated in this topic who usually have alot to say......

Duck,
Under your definition of a top major team, how many teams in our age group last year went out of state to play tournaments? I think no more than 5 - Braves, Stealth, Grays, Yard Dogs, Stars. With the Dogs gone, I would add the Longhorns to those other four teams and that would be my top 5 for 2011. The next 5-10 teams would come from the many solid AAA teams from last year that will play major events this coming season. |

I don't really understand why our team last season was so against out of state competition......Our team had decided against even an out of state world series. I know two of our boys ended up playing two tourneys in Florida after our season had ended....And I know that the two boys who are now with Shiloh would have been open to it....Other than that almost nobody wanted too, and I think many families just don't want to use their one week of vacation at the ball field....We wouldn't have it any other way, those weeks are a blast. |

Titan,
If you look at last years major teams, imho there were only 5 that one would consider as "major." The EC Braves, Stealth, Yard Dogs, Gamers & Stars. Columbia County doesn't play here and I've never seen them so... and 643 was an average AA/AAA team last season (btw, they were 2-3 vs. AA teams according to USSSA). Could the Titans have been in this mix? Last years teams could have but they didn't play to find out but coach has said they will try their hand at some bigger tournaments in 2011.
As far as big out of town tournaments, the Braves, Stealth and Yard Dogs are the only one who did this but they had no choice as they had to find competition for their teams. I don't speak for any of these teams but I'm willing to bet that they would rather play closer to home and not have the added expenses of traveling each month. |

ecbinsider,
I beg to differ with you on one other team. For whatever reason the Grays never really get any love on this board. Out of your top 5 selections, The Grays beat the Braves, Stealth, Gamers and the Stars last year. The never got an opportunity to play the Yard Dogs. I think the Grays coaches have done a wonderful job with the talent they have. They played several major tournaments in different states while playing up several times during the 2010 season. IMHO that should count for something. Look forward to 2011! |

Coach,
My apologies, it was a simple oversight. I am aware of your victory over these teams and certainly the Grays belong in this group. It probably slipped my mind since I've never been able to watch your team play, I do know you guys will go out and play good teams.
Sincerely, Insider |

I just hope we are competetive. The kids have enough pressure on them from the parents. I want to leave the pressure of being a top 5/10 team off them as long as possible. Until we consistenly perform we are what we are. Middle of the road. Sometimes we are very good, sometimes we stink it up. |

Calling all 11u coach's who think they are one of the best or want to play one of the best. I am going to give all ages what they want and that's a MAJOR tournament for all the best teams in GA ,AL ,FL ,TN ,SC ,NC and whoever else wants to come. See my post on the tournament site "Battle of the Best NIT" for details.

Bubba - isn't that tournament the same weekend (5/26 - 5/30) that the ECB Braves are hosting the Battle of the South? |
